Eliza’s Way

“Hello, everyone, hello, hello!” shouted the chunky centaur king to the crowd. “You are all aware of the feast coming up I a few days!” The crowd cheered with excitement. “Now I need all the horsemen in my wonderful town to meet me tomorrow at noon. I will be discussing the hunting we have to do.”

There was a particular female centaur in the crowd named Eliza, and she wanted to hunt, so the next day she came to the meeting.

“Now, my good men, I need you all to go to the forest and collect meat for the feast. My expectations are high,” announced the king.

Nobody noticed Eliza at the meeting, but the next day at the hunt all the males laughed when they saw her.

“You think a female can hunt for a royal feast?” they teased her. “That’s ridiculous. A woman isn’t as strong as us men. You don’t think the centaur king is really going to accept your food? If you even get any.” They all laughed.

“I am much stronger and braver than you’ll ever be. It doesn’t matter if I’m a female centaur, just watch and see,” said Eliza.

They all took a bag to store the animals they were going to hunt, and as fast as they could galloped off to start the hunt. Eliza worked hard all day. She acted like a true hunter and filled up  lots of bags. At seven o’clock, all the hunters showed up at the king’s palace.

“Form a line,” announced the king. One by one the centaurs showed their bags to the king. Eliza was last. She needed a big cart to carry all her bags.

“Next!” called the king.

Eliza stepped up with her cart and twirled her mane nervously.

“A woman?” said the king in surprise.

“My name is Eliza, I’m a female, and I am providing these bags.”

The king accepted her bags.

“But she’s a female centaur,” the men protested.

“I don’t care,” the king replied, looking hungrily at the bags.

At the feast everyone knew about the amazing Eliza.
