Wishing for Another Visit

I remember the treats we were baking—
but more so, the memory-making,
as my favorite bakery team
enjoyed homemade cookies and cream.

I remember we did arts and crafts,
as I treasured your smiles and laughs,
which I house in my head and my heart,
and recall when we’re ever apart.

I remember in summer we stayed nice and cool,
spending hours outside in your pool,
and I felt it should never end, never,
just be kept in our moment forever.

I remember in winter we played the board games
by the fire’s bedazzling flames,
and the stories that each of us shared.
Whatever my interests were, you always cared.

But now we’re in two different places,
and can’t give our heartfelt embraces,
or hold on to the other one’s hand—
but our love will eternally stand.

Though in-person is best, so a visit’s my wish,
one I’ll keep holding on to and never relinquish,
when we do see each other again,
my wish will be granted, replaced by a grin.
