Back Home

I open the door, coldness sweeping over me.
A sheet of white covers our street,
Cold, dry, and lonely.
I always wanted a White Christmas
Yet this does not seem right.
Something is missing.
I wish to be back home.
Warm, cozy house.
Rowdy cousins running stray.
A glittering Christmas tree,
Decorated Grandma’s old-fashioned way.
Turkey roasting in the oven,
Delicious smells wafting through the house.
Filled with this blessing of a Christmas meal,
Our homemade brownies, taken home, wrapped up.
Tonight’s chilling air is comforting,
Yet strong and full of might.
Wrapped in blankets, half-asleep.
Older sister’s Taylor Swift playing,
I drift back to sleep.
Snapped back to reality,
I realize I don’t need this Christmas I’m wishing for,
That new opportunities await me, they call me,
But to be back home remains my wish.
