Lucky or Lost?

Ahh! That was me screaming. I’m pretty sure you don’t know many people who sit idling in a parking lot scratching off an expensive lottery ticket . . . and losing!

Long story short, I’ve wasted a lot of money gambling, and now my bank account isn’t going to be happy with the outcome of today’s latest buy. Gambling is one of my hobbies and habits. After all, I’ve been doing it for twenty-five years, counting today. I thought for my twenty-fifth gambling anniversary, I should spend $25,000 to get mega millions. Instead, I got mega trouble!

I couldn’t afford buying anything extra, but even after yesterday’s trauma, I succumbed and put a little extra money toward today’s lotto ticket.
I admit my hobby is a problem. I didn’t win anything big yesterday or for the past twenty-four years. Now I barely have enough money to buy basic necessities.

I promised myself that today I shall not gamble. Those were too big words for me. Of course I can’t just quit. Today’s lotto ticket will only be a dollar. . . .
Unfortunately, the place I went to didn’t have one-dollar scratch-offs. To celebrate my last days of gambling, I spend $1,000.

After losing again today, I checked my mail and found a big tax bill for money I didn’t have. I forgot April is coming up! I still need to pay off all my taxes! I can’t come up with that money. I only have a fourth of that in my savings!

I began to panic, while spending more money on lotto tickets to help with the whole tax-day stress. Hopefully, I could worm through the whole thing, but if things don’t work out . . . Anyway, I just spent $20 on a ticket. Might as well end my good days with a good time. . . .

What the *bleep*! I WON THE LOTTERY! HALLELUIA!

Epilogue: One year later

Life overall is good. I paid off all my bills and am in therapy with a good job, but I have to admit the only reason I got into that mess was because of my impulsive purchases.
