New Poetry Contest: See the Sea

Lonely

I am never glorified
merchandized
written about.
It all goes to “Nessie,” I don’t know why.
Maybe Qalupalik just isn’t catchy.
Maybe it’s because
I am not magic
I am used as a warning
not to play close to the water.
It’s rather tragic.
I never mean to hurt,
just help.
I never capture, only care for.
Unlike the. rest of my kind
who drag children
into the depths
of the ocean
never to be seen again.
They give me
a bad name.
That is why
I’m lonely.
