Haiku for the Sea

on a rocky cliff
I stand. waves pound the jagged
rock as white foam froths

tiny seaside town
white houses and gabled roofs
sailboats in the sea

tufts of spiky grass
sprout among the sandy dunes.
spiders crawl, hidden

cold, bitter waves crash—
seaweed wraps around my leg—
then ebb, leaving sand

salty seawater
drifts on the warm breeze as I
duck beneath the waves

the sea reaches out,
infinite, and passing down
a thousand stories
