The Unwanted Mice

“A mouse! That’s all I can get?” I grumbled, digging my hand into my pocket, feeling my money. “Not enough money for a dog, or even a bunny!”

Dad commented, “It’s better than nothing I mean, it’s only twenty dollars, and buy one get one FREE is a worthwhile deal.”

“Yeah,” Brad chimed in, “ I agree, Ivy.” And so that’s how I ended up with the unwanted miniature mice.

I peered at cream-furred Perky and Lazy, who was pale gray. I soon discovered that mice strongly relish sunflower seeds. Reluctantly picking up Lazy, I waited for that gross feeling I had felt when previously dumping out the rat trap. But wait. Lazy was soft. And wriggly. And warm!

I tried placing them in a hamster ball and soon discovered that little lazy-looking Lazy was energetic, while Perky was calm. Perky enjoyed veggies and fruit, while Lazy enjoyed sweeter foods, such as yogurt raisins. I also discovered that they, being no ordinary mice, enjoyed playing catch with a ball. However, I still couldn’t help wishing I’d been able to buy a dog.

One day I was comfortably sitting on a chair in my Whizzn’ room, a small redone inventing room in my attic, when an idea popped into my mind. I soon started working on my idea, a mouse flier. At Five Below, I bought a hover ball and attached a buckle harness to it. I flight-tested it, and then with anticipation, I buckled calm and trusting Perky into the harness. I turned on the power, holding my breath, and watched as the hover ball floated up and down in the air, with Perky looking like a sunbathing lady at the beach. I relaxed.

Suddenly I questioned, How would I get Perky down without hurting her? Just as I was starting to panic, Lazy nudged the instructions toward me. I was pleased to find that by using a television remote control, I could control the hover ball. I helped Perky down and since then I have flown many new and improved mice fliers, thanks to my two little heroes!
