Oh Bugs!
I was resting in the sunshine near a grove of Aspen trees,
Fully peaceful for the moment I enjoyed a gentle breeze.

Then I felt a stirring tremor, not an earthquake, not a storm,
But a movement very clearly deviating from the norm.

And I found it disconcerting to behold, at rapid pace
My environs shooting upward, rushing outward everyplace.

Exponentially enlarging ’til I found myself, alas,
Just a microscopic morsel in the parting of the grass.

Naturally it was disturbing to observe my fortunes changed,
My importance clearly lessened as proportions were estranged.

Then the ground began to quiver and a terror gripped my heart
When I heard the footfalls’ thunder and the grass was forced apart.

There I trembled in the shadow of a beetle tall and broad
And I fled in near hysterics as it ever closer trod.

As I madly rushed in zigzags on the undulating ground
The concussive repercussions of his steps were all around.

Then he passed without disaster, never knowing I was there
And if conscious of my presence, it was clear he didn’t care.

Now unique in my perspective I with certainty suspect
That if bugs become colossal they’d command some more respect!
