The Living Room Fashion Show

“Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, guinea pigs and teddy bears, to the annual Wilson family fashion show!” I paused to let Mom, Dad, and all my stuffed animals cheer and clap before I continued. “I, Sarah Wilson, champion five years running, will be your host today, but that doesn’t mean I’m not competing! Now, I know all of you have been waiting all year to see what kind of dazzling masterpiece I’ve come up with this year, and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

“But before we start the show, let me introduce our three judges!” Everyone clapped again. “Over here on the left,” I said, pointing to my two guinea pigs in their cage, “we have Peanut and Potato, the world’s furriest fashion icons, and on the right, the famous fashion designer, Belinda Bunny!” More applause. “OK, everyone, the show will begin in five minutes!” I announced and rushed off to my room to get changed.

In my room I put on my green-and-orange stripy leggings and my shirt with the red stars on it. Then I put my purple tutu on, along with my red sequined jacket, and as a finishing touch, my black shiny boots. Then I went over to the mirror. I looked absolutely STUNNING!

I crept back downstairs and peeked into the living room, where the fashion show was just beginning. Mom was up first. She was wearing purple high heels, a long green dress with yellow flowers on it, and big, silly hat. The judges clapped politely, and a few stuffies in the audience cheered.

Nice try, Mom, I thought.

Then it was Dad’s turn. He was wearing a colorful Hawaiian shirt, pink shorts with little alligators on them, and sunglasses in the shape of pineapples. The audience laughed, but only Peanut clapped.

Seriously, Dad? I shook my head.

It was finally my turn. The second I stepped onto the runway, the audience jumped to their feet and roared. I walked down the runway and twirled, as the judges clapped and cheered. Mom and Dad sat down, accepting defeat.
