At a Coral Reef
Near a coral reef lived a young seahorse named Jules. One day he felt an eerie tremor through the water. It made his long, golden nose tingle. Jules frowned--he'd always known his snout was more sensitive to vibrations than the other seahorses', but this thing sounded huge. And it was approaching fast.

Jules spotted his best friend, Colby the pipefish. Colby was extremely sharp-eyed and in charge of warning Jules's herd whenever the carnivorous Barracuda approached. Jules darted out of his seaweed and fluttered to a standstill in front of Colby.

"Colby! My nose feels something coming. What is it?"

"But . . . it's just a nose!" Colby replied, puzzled.

Jules winced as another shockwave rolled up. "Just tell me what you see!"

Colby scanned the corals carefully. "Nothing . . . hey, what's that?"

Jules spun around. A huge dim shadow was spreading over the seabed. The shockwaves swelled and Jules, sneezing, dimly heard Colby squeak, "It's a net!"

Suddenly, the water exploded around them. Fish and turtles whirled in circles, screaming and bumping into each other. Everybody felt the colossal Thing overhead now, but no one knew where it came from except Jules and Colby.

Heart pounding, Jules raced back to his herd, who clung petrified to their seaweed strands. "Follow me. I know where to go!"

He turned around . . . and bonked straight into Barracuda himself. Colby screamed. But Barracuda grunted, "Where?"

Jules, terrified, suddenly realized ALL the sea critters were watching him. There was panic in their eyes as the monstrous Thing thundered overhead. But before Jules could say anything, Barracuda had grabbed Jules and slung him on his back. "Show us!"

Jules pointed with his snout, and Barracuda streaked off, followed by all the other sea critters. Slowly the rumbling of the Thing faded away; Barracuda stopped. Jules nervously slid off and was about to escape when Barracuda grunted quietly and bolted off.

Giddily, Jules plopped onto the clump of seaweed, watching his family and Colby tumble off the back of a sea turtle. A seaweed brushed Jules's snout, and he sneezed--everybody froze.

Jules laughed. "It's just my nose!"
