Story Contest: A Magical Talent
Invisaboy
A boy named Sami Cedar had little money, food, or shelter. He had helped his father on the farm ever since his mother died when he was three years old. He was not able to go to school and had no life outside of farm work.
While he was hunting in the woods one day, he saw something glitter. It was a magical glowing orb. He rushed toward it and tried to pick it up, but it burned his hand like a cold fire. He wrapped it in his shirt carefully and took it home. His father wanted to sell the orb to support their farm.
While Sami was on his way to the market that afternoon, he saw someone trying to rob a store. Sami wanted to help but felt powerless, since he was only a young boy, so he held the orb tightly and turned toward home. While he was running, the orb bounced hard against his chest. Quickly, he started to vanish, and soon he was invisible! He thought, Now I can stop any robbery!
He ran to the market to help, and the robbery was still in progress. Since he was invisible, Sami was able to slip into the store undetected and move things as if the store was haunted. Soon the robbers were so scared that they dropped all of their loot and ran away. Sami had stopped the robbery after all!
Sami ran home to tell his father everything that had happened with the orb, how he had vanished and stopped the robbery. When Sami spoke, his father couldn't believe his ears, since he couldn't see his son. Sami doused himself with milk, the antidote for the vanishing effect, to make his shape appear.
Sami's father was proud of him. He took Sami to the police chief where Sami described the robbers so clearly that the chief was able to catch them quickly. The orb remained a secret. Sami earned a medal for his bravery, and with the reward for stopping the robbery, Sami and his father lived comfortably on their farm.
