Don’t feed the bears! Read Cricket instead

It’s time for summer vacations. In “Yellowstone or Bust!” Rosemary Laughlin remembers a road trip she took with her family, back when it was OK to feed the bears!

Or maybe you’ll camp out this summer. You’ll probably have an easier time than Arha, who, to win his freedom, watches a distant fire to survive a night on frigid mount Sululta in “The Fire on the Mountain.”

In part 2 of the fantasy “Skin Deep,” you’ll find out whether Prince Garn falls in love with Ardda, despite the disfigurement of her birthmark. Or will Ardda use her magical power of wishes to cast a glamour in a wholly unexpected direction?

The young, aspiring cartoonist in “My Greatest Ambition” gets his big chance—an interview with Boy Magazine. Will they offer him a full-time job, or will his scoffing father be proved right?

And in a new serial, “Drawing on Memory,” Japanese artist Allen Say recalls how, against the wishes of his father, he followed his passion for art and became an apprentice at age thirteen to the most famous cartoonist in Japan.

What can go wrong when a gun-shy mule marches in the Fourth of July parade? Find out, in the next episode of “Scooter.”

Whether you go to Yellowstone—as the bugs do in their hilarious search for Muffin—or find a summer adventure in your own backyard, take your camera with you so you can enter our new photography contest. Whatever you do, don’t feed the bears! (But maybe that’s why they always seem so hungry and growly!) Grrrr.
