Happy buggy birthday! Cricket turns 40!

Newbery Award winning author Kate DiCamillo helps Cricket celebrate its 40th anniversary with an interview and special preview of her forthcoming novel, Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures. Kate read Cricket as a kid and published some of her first stories in Spider.

We also launch a new serial, “Water to Ice,” about a hot-tempered boy named Jake who uses kung fu to face up to Mike Glover and his gang at school.

Not only do we have a new, cool map of Cricket Country on the cover, but you’ll also hear the buggy version of the history of Cricket and laugh at some of the early Cricket cartoons, as they originally were “In the Buginning . . .”

You’ll enjoy a funny story, “Bushi’s Bride,” about one of the founders of karate who married a woman also skilled in martial arts; a new, true Civil War story, “Fox in the Firelight,” about a boy trying to find a peaceful way between two warring armies; part 2 of  “Drawing from Memory,” a memoir by artist Allen Say who studied with Japan’s most famous cartoonist; and a poem by Langston Hughes to celebrate the “Birth” of Cricket.

So grab a balloon and a piece of cake. The party in George’s underground mansion is just buginning!
