Kyngdom Survival Guide

Nobyl RP! T

Chatterbox: KYNGDOM™ RP Board

Nobyl RP! T

Nobyl RP!

The Nobyls are at the very top of Kyngdom's social ladder. They are the ultimate elite - wealthy, powerful, leading luxurious lives. But not all are content... in every family, it seems, there's at least one adventurous spirit. And these adventurous young Nobyls are deciding to join the Resistance, leave behind everything they've ever known, and fight for freedom from Catastrophe.

Since we haven't worked out exactly what's supposed to be going on in Kyngdom during the ten-year timeskip, I won't set the scene too strictly at this point - but this RP is about a few Nobyl families, both rich and poor, who decide, throughout the course of the RP, to join the Resistance. Some are at the extreme top of Kyngdom's elite; they can either leave the elite once they decide to join, or join secretly. Others have lost everything and know how cruel and unjust Catastrophe is, and thus have wanted to join the Resistance for a long time. The different families don't have to have much contact with each other at first, but their stories will gradually intertwine as they join the Resistance and get to know each other and form new friendships, alliances, and rivalries.

I used to play a Nobyl charrie, actually! He was in jail when I last left off but I might drag him back here. If it helps: Nobyl surnames start with the prefix "pur". For example, Aakash pur Keteque was my Nobyl charrie. The existing Nobyl families are:

Abadore

Arthi

Bofnish

Botanavich

Courageux

Derefoni

Keteque

Kays

Lamour

Westchoice

Zaraon

I don't think it's a big deal to create more of these families. However, I do know for a fact that some of them had already existing charries within them. I remember the pur Lamours had Karune and Lilly, and then Mina was a Dolor Felis from one of these families. It's possible to play a cousin or something of the main family as well. If I remember, the Nobyl families were generally disliked by a lot of the common folk of Kyngdom. They were pretty notorious for throwing balls and parties in the middle of warzones and wasting a lot of money. The pur Lamour family used to provide financial backing to the Resistance, but they cut funding after Lilly passed at the Ball of Flowers. And Karune pur Lamour then decided to ally with Jaaws. So they're definitely not morally perfect in a lot of cases: it'll be fun to see that twisted, I think.

I accidentally added Shernyl to that list with my charrie. Oh well.

@Sybill, thanks so much for the information on the Nobyls! I had no idea about the "pur" part of the name, oops :/

With that I proceed to begin (I introduced my charrie on the Who's Here thread).

The door opened, and the sound of laughter and chatter drifted in. Zara's brothers, Alnair and Rialtas, entered the little cottage, carrying great armfuls of wood for the fire and stamping the snow off their boots. Snow was falling outside; Zara could see the pattern of lacy whiteness against the darkness of the night.

"Did you get all the wood you needed?" inquired Phaedron, Zara's father, stretching out his hands to the fire.

"Yes, sir," replied Alnair  respectfully, crossing the room to where Phaedron sat. He was a tall, well-built young man, who always seemed to convey the aura of pines, and forests, and cold mountain lakes. Except for his yellow hair and sky-blue eyes, which he had inherited from his Northern mother, he was the image of his father. Zara admired him immensely.

"It's a wild night outside, father," said Rialtas, coming over to warm his hands at the fire. "You've never seen such snow. But I enjoyed being out in it," he added. He was a year older than Zara, and direct and adventurous. He had untidy brown hair and well-cut features, and was good-looking in his way.

"I suppose you're wishing  Vera could be here to enjoy it with you," Zara said teasingly.

Rialtas swung around to face her. "What gave you that idea, for heaven's sake? I couldn't care less about Vera!"

"Oh sure," said Alnair, quite unconvinced.

"Children, don't quarrel!" said Phaedron, but his dark eyes held a spark of amusement.

Soon the three men settled into a board game, and silence fell over the room, broken only by the crackle of the fire and the occasional clink of a piece as one of the men laid it down on the board. Zara, as she studied their faces, found her thoughts wandering to the long-ago days, when she had been a little girl in the palace of the pur-Al-Mari family, and her mother had been alive - before Lord Helion, King Catastrophe's general, had driven her family off their lands and taken them for himself.

Oh, their little cottage, here in the windy pine forest, was well enough. They harvested pine bark and sold it in the village, and got their food by farming - but it wasn't the same. Zara looked around the cozy, firelit room, with its comfortable rug and the paintings hanging on the wall, and even though she liked it, a wave of homesickness washed over her.

The day before everything changed, she had been in the music-room of the palace. Outside it had been hot, but a fresh breeze had wafted in through the windows, carrying with it the sweet scent of roses. The noise of fountains had drifted in as well, a cool murmur that never ended. They had all been gathered there, her father and her brothers and her mother, - and she herself, she must have been only six - to listen to a traveling musician who had come that day.

The slow lilting tune had enchanted them all. Zara had felt as if she were carried along on a river of flowing, soaring music. The song was an old, old ballad, almost as ancient as Kyngdom itself; and it told of the exploits of the Count Zetar, who was a folk hero of the region. The minstrel had surely never sung it better. Even now Zara could hear the rhythmic strum of the guitar, see the quiet face of her mother and hear the sweet whistle of the bird, outside in the gardens, that sounded as the singer drew to a close.

She was brought back to real life by another sound - the sound of someone, someone unknown, violently pounding at the door.

----------------------------------------------

If you want to hear the real-life version of the music I described, you can! I was inspired for it by a song called the "Romance del Conde Olinos," by Alalumbre Folk, which I believe is a traditional Spanish song. If you look it up on YouTube, the video is just of the singers and has nothing to do with what I imagined the scene to be like, but the music is quite similar. It's beautiful :)

I'll also be using this charrie, so I might as well introduce her:

Name: Caladia pur Matian

Pronouns: She/her

Age: About 16

Appearance: Long dark hair, tanned skin, a radiant smile, very graceful in her movements. Fairly pretty. Quick to laugh. Just over medium height.

Personality: Imaginative, adventurous, bold, challenging, daring, but sensitive. Easily thrilled by life and its promises.

Strengths/weaknesses: She's charming and popular, and good at persuasion, but not very experienced - she's always been wealthy and sheltered.

Home: A city called Minaret in the south of Kyngdom. She, of course, lives in a palace.

Which Nobyl family is he/she from? You can invent your own branch of the Nobyls: The pur Matian family, very wealthy and influential. It's linked to the pur Lamoure family.

Background: She's always been rich and sheltered. She has a very large family which is mainly concerned with politics and keeping on Catastrophe's good side - but she isn't satisfied with such a life.

AAKASH--

"There's smoke. Rising up over the trees, I mean." The soft voice belonged to Kit, who had been traveling for me the second half of the past decade. Originally it had been quite a lot of us-- there'd been Kosomi pur Ramabasa, and Angel-- Gamgi and Corrin too-- but after securing my release from the Song of War Bird penitentiary, I had gone off with just Kit, Angel, and Kosomi for some time. They'd been journeying to find her, my mother, Sitaara.
And then... things had happened, and now it was just Kit and I. I didn't want to be involved with the Nocturnal and I'd spent the last several years avoiding that destiny. I wanted the life I'd had so many years ago, but a decade of travel had taught me I wouldn't get that either.
"Ash? Are you listening to me?" Kit was riding on a simple grey horse, the color of its pelt matching their cybernetic arm perfectly. Their short ebony hair framed a round, olive-toned face and hooded brown eyes.
"I am," I stated, "Considering your words." I looked up over the trees and saw that they were right. There was a thin plume of smoke, probably rising from a chimney.
That meant a house, which meant people. We could go there to trade for supplies, then be on our way again. We were heading towards one of the summer palaces my family had once owned. I imagined it'd be empty. It would be a good place for Kit and I to rebuild the wealth I'd once had.
~~
I'll do their sheets in a separate post as soon as I have the time! But for now, know that Aakash uses he/him pronouns and Kit uses they/them.

Alright, here's these two clowns' sheets.

Name: "Lord" Aakash pur Keteque. Usually goes by Ash.

Pronouns: He/him

Age: He's either 28 or 29 now. I totally forget if he used to be 18 or 19. Either way, he's nearly thirty at this point.

Appearance: Copper-toned skin, brown eyes, somewhat long black hair usually tied back as a bun or ponytail. He appears generally South Asian, he's also fairly tall (probably around 6'2"). He wears a cerulean colored overcoat most of the time, which has silver embroidery on it. He also usually carries an ornamental fencing sword with him. It's more of a decoration but can absolutely be used in combat if needed.

Personality: Arrogant and somewhat stuck-up. He's intelligent but vain, and is prone to petty insults. Despite this, he is genuinely analytical and skilled in strategy. He can absolutely lie and manipulate if needed as well. INTJ.

Strengths: Fencing, intelligent, still has a notable sum of wealth, good liar

Weaknesses: Arrogant, petty, vain, bad at "living off the land"

Home: He was originally born in the Pur Keteque manor up north, but now he just generally travels around, trying to avoid his past.

Nobyl family: The pur Keteque family. His older brother, Darius, has since taken over the family. They're allied with Catastrophe, which is part of why Aakash is avoiding them. His mother, Sitaara, went missing years ago.

Background: During the Winter Masquerade, Aakash was captured but avoided possession thanks to his enchanted amulet. He was temporarily imprisoned at the Song of War Bird penitentiary but managed to gain his freedom from there. Afterwards, he met Kit, Kosomi and Angel who were searching for his mother, Sitaara, who used to be a warrior from the Nocturnal. He reunited with her but had no desire to take over her role, and has instead been traveling with Kit.

Name: Kit

Pronouns: They/them

Age: Probably 26 or 27 now?

Appearance: Appears to be Japanese. Olive skin, warm brown eyes, very short black hair. Round face, somewhat thin. Their right arm is cybernetic and is a warm grey color. Almost tall at 5'8".

Personality: INFP. They're quiet and empathetic, and sensitive. They're great at reading other people's emotions. They have a general caring nature but can also be stubborn or sassy at times. Generally a very kind-hearted person, they can also sometimes be a slight pushover. They don't particularly like Aakash, but they're too polite to say anything directly and Ash is too self-absorbed to notice.

Strengths: Some medical knowledge, good at talking and connecting to people, knows a lot about surviving in the wilderness

Weaknesses: Pushover, not great with combat or dealing with it

Home: Kit just travels. They sometimes stay in Mer, though, where they have some old friends.

Nobyl family: Kit isn't a Nobyl, they're just traveling with Ash at the moment.

Background: Previously known as Kimiko Agate, they suffered severe trauma to the head and were left with amnesia. After this event, they began going simply by "Kit". Under this name, they met Kosomi and Angel, joining the previous on their journey to find Sitaara. After uniting with Ash and bringing him to his mother, they and Ash broke off on their own. It's Kit who's kept Ash alive for the past few years with their knowledge of wilderness survival.

*Perks up*

It's starting?

It's starting!!!

Yay!

There isn't anything else to do other than jump in, I guess. I have Kalarix's sheet on Who's Here, in case I didn't make things clear.

Name: Kalarix pur Westchoice

Pronouns: He/Him

Age: 16

Appearance: Soft pale skin, light blue pupils, matted, unkempt black hair (which used to be in a ponytail), has fine hands with thin fingers. Nearly always has a distrustful, defensive expression on him(when he's not acting up), and is actually quite good looking. Average height. Worth of note is the enchanted jade choker worn dangerously tight around his neck, so tight that he can't even take it off.

Personality: Suspective and cautious by nature, but also somewhat rebellious at the same time. Always feels insecure.

Strengths/weaknesses: Very resourceful, and has a great amount of determination inside him. However, his sense of near-constant insecurity keeps him on edge around the clock, meaning he often ends up burning out under stress. He tends to seem cold and unfeeling, often wrapped up in his inner conflicts.

Home: Where's that map of Kyngdom when you need it???  *sighs* Here go my terrible naming skills again... He lives (or lived)... somewhere in the west of Kyngdom, in a modest city called Long Gate. Yeah.

Which Nobyl family is he/she from? You can invent your own branch of the Nobyls: Westchoice, of course. A small branch of it.

Background: Kalarix is an...anomaly. He's been prone to hallucinations ever since his childhood, to the extent that he can't even tell the diffrence between truth and fiction. His family nearly went broke trying to cure him, so he faked his suicide to escape into the rest of Kyngdom, learning to cope with his deficencies along the way. He knows he's better off wandering than weighing his family down, but he craves for a normal life deep inside.

Well, here goes nothing...

If no one is taking the 'unknown person banging the door' spot, then I guess I shall?

-----------------

Kalarix coughed tiredly, doing his best to comb the freezing ice crystals out of his tangled hair with frostbitten fingers. He needed warmth. He needed heat.

But he didn't even know where he was...

Turning his face away from the gale, Kalarix ducked into the wind shadow of the nearest tree. It was there, leaning against its rough frost-bitten bark did he finally get a half-dry match lit, which he then managed by a pure stroke of luck to ignite his torch with. It brought him some comfort, in the pitch black darkness.

The feeble firelight from it illuminated the snow blanketing his surroundings for a few feet, barely far enough for him to find his way through the pines ahead.

"You'd be darn proud of me, Mom." Kalarix muttered to no one in paticular, wrapping his arms around his chest to conserve what little heat his heart had left to give and set out into the forest once more, the heavy snow blanketing his footsteps. It must have been only a quarter of an hour, but it felt like a eternity to the young man who continued to stumble his way forwards admist the looming pines blindly, having lost his way through the forest two days ago since he was led astray by a snowstorm.

Then he stopped. The torch he had taken such a pain to light slid out of his grasp and fizzled out in the snow. But Kalarix wasn't thinking about his torch.

"No...no no no, not now... come on, just a little bit further, please..." The young man held both hands to his face as his vison began to waver. The outines of dark shapes around him trembled and morphed, conjoining to become a vast grassland even as the pine forest faded away from either side of him. "Stop... Not here..." He tried to shake the sight away, but it redoubled in vividity. He didn't even feel cold anymore.

Sounds of horses, of people, of insects... all came to Kalarix's ears like a tidal wave of information. Information that he would rather not have.

"Kalarix! Up so early today? Enjoying a spot of sunrise, are we?" Kalarix swivled his head to see a gruff man with tanned skin approach him, smiling warmly. "Ah, I always told Jhensy that the sun is beautiful, but he never took a word of it it seemed, eh? Had to go up north like that, wrapped up like a mummy." The man laughed to himself, a loud laugh that traveled through the small village they were standing in. "What do you think of doing today, Kal?"

Kalarix didn't respond, face white. He needed to get back! He was going to die otherwise, with his body in a snowstorm like that. Wake up, wake up! He closed his eyes and tried to scrunch his neck back, the way he often used to leave these hallucinations. Yet nothing happened.

"Kalarix?" The man was still standing there, looking rather puzzled at the lack of response.

Kalarix just started sprinting away. He darted through empty dirt streets, between straw huts, and when he couldn't run anymore, began to bang on the closest door nearest to him wildly, punctuating very word with a thump. "Let. Me. Out. Of. This. Place. NOW!"

There was movement behind the frail door, some voices from whatever farmer who lived in the hut. But Kalarix didn't care. Nothing in the hallucinations could harm him, he wanted OUT. He continued banging. "Let me out-!"

Kalarix choked as the feeling of a burning hot iron tightened around his neck. The hut before his eyes vanished away instantly, the homely village dissapearing into smoke. The feelings of cold, hunger, and soreness washed back into his mind. And the pain.

Oh yes, the pain. Kalarix let his nails dig into the smooth wood in front of him and his legs to give way under him as the enchanted ring around his neck grew hot and tight, the pressure on his neck making it feel as if it were about to snap. He couldn't breathe! He needed to-

Through watering eyes, he saw the wooden surface in front of him swing open, letting light flood upon his face.

"Father, look!" A voice of a boy.

Tree nymphs now? Can't you even spin more logical hallucinations to see, Kalarix?

That was the last thought Kalarix pur Westchoice had before his vison cut off.

-Zara-

For a moment there was tension and silence in the little cottage. Zara knew what they were all thinking - the family had escaped from Catastrophe's soldiers once, when they fled their palace, but there was no guarantee that they were permanently safe from them. And who else would come to the house on such a night? Then Phaedron stood up.

"Open the door, Rialtas, and we'll see who it is. If it's Lord Helion's soldiers, they'll break down the door anyway, an we open it or not."

Rialtas stepped over to the door and swung it open. For a moment there was silence, then - "Father, look!" he exclaimed.

Zara followed Phaedron to the door. There was no one there but a boy, cold and exhausted, and half-frozen. What he was doing here, Zara didn't know, but she could see he needed help.

"Quick. Help him inside, Rialtas," Phaedron ordered, and between them they half-carried the boy into the house and eased him into a chair by the fire. Zara and Alnair hovered in the background, watching.

------------------------------

@Zealatom, just to clarify, I was thinking that the cottage would be in the middle of a forest... *goes back and rereads post* hmm, I guess I didn't make it quite clear :/ There is a village nearby, but the cottage itself is some way outside it. I can change it if you want it to be in a village, but I just thought I'd mention it :) Anyway, it should be interesting to see how our charries interact!

submitted by Poinsettia
(April 10, 2023 - 2:34 pm)

It's so good to be back :)

Time for my first charrie in a loooong time lol!

~~

Name: Eon pur Silvalis

Pronouns: She/her

Age: Young Adult

Appearance: A nymph-type with seafoam green eyes and skin as fair as porcelain. Her hair is short and chestnut brown, and floats gently around her cheekbones and ears. Speaking of her ears, they are four long and pointed, like an elf's. She is typically seen wearing some sort of loose, full-length pant, a fitted and cropped sleeveless top, and no shoes. She wears no jewelry besides a silver ring on her left hand's middle finger. Around 5'8, with a strong frame. Freckles adorn her nose, cheeks, shoulders, upper back, and knees.

Personality: She's very quiet most of the time, but she will light up like the sun when she talks about things she likes. She's in love with the world, with motion, and with art. She loves plants, especially oxalis and periwinkle. Eon is collected, intelligent, and more than slightly eccentric. She can often be found humming or singing to herself and dancing all alone.

Strengths/weaknesses: As an entertainer, she's very physically capable and mentally advanced. However, she struggles with comforting people verbally when they need it and will often panic-resort to acts of kindness and silent support. All Nobyls pur Silvalis have strength superior to the average human and heightened senses (nothing that would make them superheroes though). Eon specifically has low-power telekinesis and a so far undiscovered power that will come into play at a later date. Sorry, I can't give out spoilers ;)

Home: (Sybill is it okay if she ends up working for Aakash? Since he's a high-ranking Nobyl I think it would be fitting for her as a middle-ranking Nobyl to be in his service as a way to better her family's name)

Which Nobyl family is he/she from? You can invent your own branch of the Nobyls: Nobyls pur Silvalis is a short line of nymph-like humanoids (Species name to be determined) who have exceptional minds and therefore an adeptness for making good business decisions.

Background: The Silvalis family rose to riches by a series of medicine and machinery related trades, all of which were extraordinarily successful. Eon is a performer, specifically a dancer/artist. She finds the other Nobyls fascinating and wants to befriend many of them, but knows her place and is content in it.

~~

And there she is! Dang, it was beyond refreshing to do this again.

Ooo Okay gotcha. I was thinking since the Keteque family is so scattered maybe changing her occupation to just a famous performer among the Nonyls instead of specifically the Keteque family. It would also make the dynamic between the characters more organic, I think

I still need to work on getting hang of RPs, I just realized...

*laughs nervously* It isn't your problem Poinsettia, you made the setting very clear... it is more of a misunderstanding caused by my terrible planning skills...

Which is why this post is entirely dedicated to getting this straight, and the next will be Kalarix's POV. Kalarix isn't the wisest character choice I have made in my two years of character creating, and I get how things might get confusing. (But I'm still going to stick with him because that's how stubborn I am)

Allow me to clarify... The philosiphy behind the designing of Kalarix's mind goes somewhat along the lines of this: His consciousness wavers between two realities, one is the world of Kyngdom and the other a (yet undetermined) sub-reality. His actions in the reality he is currently seeing is duplicated to the other one.

That wasn't very good, was it? Let me try again...

What I am really trying to say here (I really need to work on my writing and explaining skills, gosh) was that Kalarix dropped into a sub-reality while he was in the pine forest. When he was running through the grassland village of the sub-reality, his body was also stumbling through the forest at the same time. It was by a pure stroke of luck that when he began to bang on the hut door in his 'hallucination', his body had ran into the exact spot of Zara's cottage and was banging on their door. And then we have the scene that has occured. (it is not the same village!)

*sighs*

It's hard to understand, I know. I was planning to downplay his sickness even more during the dialouge that follows, so please, don't worry about getting even more confused.

And do tell me if there are things I still have not made clear please...

submitted by Zealatom
(April 11, 2023 - 6:03 am)

Alright, now that is out of the way... Here goes.

~Kalarix~

Warmth. It was the first thing Kalarix registered, causing his eyesight to flicker open again. Vague shadows danced around his vison, making him to flinch instinctively, running a hand under his battered travelling robe to search for his dagger. "Get-"

His mind suddenly connected to his head. This wasn't the forest, with its relentless wind and snowstorms. Where was he? The young teenager swivled his head around his new surroundings, taking everything in.

The room he was in was heavily-carpeted and very cozy, with a hearty fire dancing in a fireplace and artistic paintings covering the walls. One could tell that the owner had taste in decor, and a very refined one at that. It vagely overlapped with some memories Kalarix had, of houses and cabins. The rattling of the windowpanes told him that nature wasn't far off either, instead just outside the door.

"How are you feeling?"

Kalarix jumped in the seat he hadn't noticed he was lying in and turned to look at the orgin of the voice. A man was standing not far from his side, studying his face with dark, inquisitive eyes.

"Where am I?" Kalarix asked, sitting up and feeling rather caught off guard in his current situation. "I was in the woods-"

"You knocked on our door." A young girl in the background replied, looking at him with an expression Kalarix couldn't quite place.

"Nearly broke it down, to be exact." Kalarix's gaze turned to a teenager with untidy brown hair leaning on the mantlepiece. "With that racket-" He shook his head, grinning. "You could scare the wits out of people, you know?"

"Your...door???" Kalarix breathed, feeling a sudden sinking feeling in his chest as his senses and recollections caught up with him. "What door?"

"But... you were pounding on it." The teenager's smile faded a bit. "You don't remember? But..." He trailed off, waving a hand at the oaken door in one of the walls.

"..." Kalarix thought back to his latest hallucination, the one with the grassland village. A dark inkling slowly began to grow in his heart. "N-no."

"Then-" Both the boy and girl began at the same time.

"Enough of that, both of you." The man, possibly father of the children, held a hand up for silence. Then, to Kalarix: "What is your name?"

"Ka-" After a pause, Kalarix decided to use his true name. This place was a long way from Long Gate after all, and some titles might help. "Kalarix. Kalarix pur Westchoice."

Whee, I think I'll join this! I haven't been following the Kygdom discussion very closely, but this sounds fun :) I might do another charrie later.

Name: Tarava pur Lamour

Pronouns: she/her

Age: 19

Appearance: Tumbling, wavy brown hair, worn either loose or braided and wrapped around her head. She has eyes that look light blue when the sun is striking them and dark blue in the nighttime or when they're in shadow. Tall, graceful, with a regal bearing.

Personality: Impulsive, kind, and passionate, but able to hide her true feelings. She is fairly clever and quick-witted, suiting her perfectly for the role she had decided to play...

Strengths/weaknesses: As I said, she is good at acting one way when she really feels another. She can adapt perfectly to almost any situation. However, she must work on being less impulsive, will help anyone who desparately needs it (even if it would be against her own interests), and is slightly in love with a certain young man from the House of Abadore who is supporting Catastrophe (his name is Rulkan - I'll probably RP him too).

Home: Her great palace in the city of Evranel, to the north of Kyngdom (if that's all right? I don't know if the separate nobyl branches are supposed to be in different areas of Kyngdom)

Which Nobyl family is he/she from? You can invent your own branch of the Nobyls: The pur Lamour family

Background: She is still very wealthy and powerful, especially as her parents died and she now controls their estates and fortunes. At the beginning of the ten-year timeskip, she was only nine, and knew very little of what was actually happening in Kyngdom. Her family was always in high favor with Catastrophe, and now she is too, as well as having several powerful friends among the other nobyls. Despite this, however, she is in reality sympathetic to the Resistance and helps them as much as she is able. No one suspects anything - at least not yet...

On which dramatic note, I end.
