I continued to walk along, still wanting to find a diner, I watched as everyone cringed as they smelt all the bug spray on me. I chuckled and continued walking. Suddenly, a ton of weird buggy things crawled out of an alley, I grabbed the can of bug spray and sprayed at them. They retreated into the alley. "Hah! Take that you weird bug things! Mankind rules!" I yelled at them. Suddenly, I heard something running down the alley. Then, a giant bug thing crawled out of the alley, I started to spray at it. But that just enraged it. It charged at me and whacked me, sending me flying backwards. I hit against a building, I drew my E-liter and fired at the monster. The ink bounced off of it harmlessly. "Oh, that's just great." I muttered.-

The alley is a common detour, one I take often from the Tavern to the Marketplace. This time, it happened to be the resting place of a street gang. Oops.
"Hi guys," I said, holding up one hand while working the gun out frommy belt with the other, "I'm looking for the Jefferson's Bar Mitzvah?" I loaded the gun with myh left hand, gently emptying the bullets into the barrel, "Obviously, I got the wrong alley." I closed my hands around the trigger just as they started moving towards me.

I walk down the streets of the nexus, trying to find someone who can do the job. I don't like to get my hands dirty. I need a theif, but it looks as if The Nexus is all out of scumbags and villany. Darn. Then I round a corner to see a mercinary adverising. A desperate NPC. Perfect. I approach her calmly. "You need more firepower? A burst of bang to your party? Mora Leexis is here to help!"
"I want to hire you," I say calmly. The white box pops up.

I was anticipating this. I concentrate on my eyes. " You don't need any pay, you are too desperate and weak. "
"Well that's awfully rude, so where's my scrip?" she asks annoyedly
Drat. An NPC. Hypnotism doesn't work on them.
"Get the job done, and I'll see you get a good share." The world won't know what hit it. Let's hope this 'Mora Leexis' is stealthy.

Finally finally finally, someone approaches me. She hires, which I appreciate, and tell her so, but tells me I'll get my pay after rather than now.
I narrow my eyes a bit at her before readopting the salesclerk demeanor and chirping in response, "I suppose that'll have to work. You won't get me to leave you alone 'til I get my share though hahaha~! What am I doing?"
The "good share" will have to be pretty good if she keeps this rudeness up, and I won't offer any special favors. Depending on how well someone interacts with me, they can get anywhere from the bare minimum to get a job done passably – a mercenary must upkeep her reputation after all – or a bit of going-out-of-my-way. And when the time comes to collect, people who I, ah, liked more might get a few units' slack.
"Yeah, yeah. Listen. Are you good at, hm, acquiring merchandise… less than legally?" she replies, rolling her icy blue eyes.
I answer honestly. "I'm mostly an extra party member, but I can bypass a share of security systems. What's the job, darling?"

"Hey!"
I ignore the shout and keep walking. Probably another Nexus hawker, trying to sell some broken bit-piece. Suddenly, they grab my arm. I spin around to tell them to buzz off but instead find myself staring at a stranger with a huge grin and deep purple eyes.
"Hello!" the boy says cheerfully, "I'm Gary Katamino!" I give him a frigid stare, but his smile just gets bigger.
"Remind me who died again?" This time I give him a full out glare. I have no idea who this person is. Then I see the Wellworth pin on his bag. Oh…
"This is Major Tom to ground control! Can you even hear me?" He still hasn't dimmed his smile. I study him for a moment before sighing.
"Kayla Warde." I say, "And… do I know you?"
"Nope!" He says enthusiastically, "But I'm pleased to make your acquaintance!" He attempts a small bow then sticks his hand out. After a second's hesitation, I shake.
"And yours also." His smile, however impossible it seems, grows brighter, until he looks at his watch and almost jumps.
"Holy Glitches! I gotta go! See ya around Kayla!" With that, he dashes down the street, quickly disappearing into the crowd. I stare after him. I don't know why… but I almost wish I could meet him again. His personality's… quirky, to say the least, but he's interesting. After a moment, I realize that I'm staring into space. I shake my head and quickly start walking off again. I'm going to be late. I realize. And I kinda want to keep my job… I start off at a run. Until, without warning, the lights go off.

So I had an idea that some Programmer used his powers to completely cut off all light in the city (only for 15 minutes tho) and all our characters are forced to hide in a bomb shelter (they would have one of those in digital realm right?) cause I have no other ideas for how they're gonna meet up.

I hope no more candy bars have to end up like the last one. I scale up an apartment wall. A beautiful view of the Nexus sky stretches in front of me. As does that of a girl backing away from a blood thirsty gang. Sheesh. Is that what it's like? Wake up, there's a person walking near us, RAR! We attack. I sigh as I rummage in my bag. How many candy bars do I have to spare? I get a clear view of the leader, aim, and throw. It hits him in the forehead and I smother a laugh. "Hey!" He shouts. "Who threw dat?" I crouch behind an air conditioning unit. The others look confused but still are ambling forward the girl. I roll my eyes. Whack! Another candy bar, Mincrunch, smacks a dazed gang member in the chest. The impact is enough to send the other gang members looking for the thrower(me) and distract them from the girl. She takes the chance. KAPLOIE! A garbage can in the opposite direction from me explodes. The gang starts running in that direction. I giggle and run off to join the girl. I hope that no more candy bars end up like the last ones.

I love your idea Starbringer, and I think that would be a great way for the characters to meet.
Mybe we could make it so the programmer does it for longer? Keep up the good work! Maybe the third chapters could be in the shelter. Can I post an extra Gary chapter? Pleeeeeeeeaaase?

I bounce down the street to the Wellsworth portal. I like making freinds with random strangers! It's a lot of fun, especially when I know I can see them again. I think that if a random stranger is cheerful to you, it helps your mood a lot. I liked Kayla. I hope I can see her again. I'm still thinking about my meeting with Kayla when suddenly all the lights go out. Utter Darkness. Then I hear the voice from the speakers "All citizens to the nearest bunker! Repeat, all citizens to the nearest bunker, we have a reaper attack!" This is not good.

The faster I run, the quicker the door closes, and the more that bug human is catching up on me. Running, I dodge the attacks and slide under the door at the last second. I smile when I hear the satisfactory sound of the bug colliding with the door. Or that's what I thought happened. Instead, it was him finding his way into the airshafts. Oh great. I dash off, frantically trying to escape this thing. I hear those talons, claws, whatever, scratching the vents as he, or it, clambers through them. Honestly, he's so loud. At least I know where he is. Finally, I bump into Leo. "OK I have a seriously irritating hack chasing me. Is there any way I can get some giant bottle of bug spray?"
Leo gives me a confused look, and shakes his head no. "Not that I last checked, not like it matters. I still wouldn't help you."
"Generous and joyful as always I see," I spit out sarcastically as I begin to pick up speed again.
The bug thing hops out of one of the vents, right in front of me, and almost cuts me in half with those spikes. He jumps onto the wall of the cave and scurries around, making it hard for me to attack back.
It's time for me to break out my bow. Pressing a button on my spear, I watch it transform into a crossbow. Sometimes it'll turn into a longbow or whatever. It just matters on my mood. Right now, I feel like kicking insect behind, so it knows I need power. I load it up and fire at the hack. It only takes a few shots for that thing to fall dead on the ground, and for it to dissapear. It's almost like it wanted me to kill it. I shrug it off and face Leo. "Thanks for being a huge help," I mutter.
"Of course my lady," he bows, somehow making it seem like an aggressive threat, or a warning.
I walk with Leo down the hall, ready to see whatever he needed to call me here for. This better be good.

I'm running to catch up to the girl when, all of a sudden, the lights go off.

I continued firing at the glitch as it charged, I dived out of the way before it stabbed me. I scrambled to my feet and started running down the street as the glitch chased me, until the lights turned off and I tripped over a trash can. I hit the pavement hard, I swear I heard the bones in my nose cracking. I ignored the shooting pain and looked around, I couldn't see the glitch, and the glitch couldn't see me. I shuffled backwards until I hit a wall. I heard the noise of a car crashing near me and a glitchy yelp. That glitch just got hit by a car. I breathed a sigh of relief until I remembered that my nose was broken. I held it in pain and got up, running to the bunker, "Everyone to the bunker! We have a reaper attack!" I ran to the voice before crashing into a car, flipping over the hood and hitting the pavement again. I eventually reached the bunker and went into it, trying to stop my bleeding nose.

There's no power. Nothing good can come from this. This was planned, a purposeful attack. I run as quick as possible to get to the nearest safety bunker. I dont want to meet the reapers now, and I dont want to meet them later. As soon as I'm inside, I charge my sword with fire to light up the room a bit. There's a short-ish brown haired guy sitting in the corner. There's a couple other people, and wait, is that Kayla? What a coinsidence. I walk over and dsit beside her, my sword still ablaze.

The time is right. I knew we'd get a good diversion. I lean close to my 'comrade'.
"I want you to steal the Nexus Core."

"Thanks for coming. I believe you will be interested in what I have here," Leo mumbles. "I've been working on a powerful weapon for some time now, it would be good for my allies to have, but I'm missing a vital piece of data… And you know exactly what it is."
"Is that so? Well, what would I get in return?" I ask.
"I'll give you the information you need…," Leo whispers. "To find your mother."
I tackle Leo and clucth his throat. "What. Did. You. Say?" I growl.
"I said-" he chokes from my grip, "that I ca-can help you find your mother."
"Why should I trust you this time?" I ask coldly.
"Because I am the only on-one-e who has anything to lose."
Releasing my grip, I allow him to gasp in a lot of air. Poor Leo is having a coughing fit when I decide to talk again. "What do you need to know?"
Rubbing the quickly forming bruise on his neck, Leo smiles. "There is something wrong withing the inside of the machine. I need to to turn into something really tiny I don't know, and try and find out what's stopping my weapon from working."
"Fine. But you have to promise not to attack the Nexus with that thing."
"Done." Leo shakes hands with me, with his usual devil smirk on his face. "This way, ma amie."
"I am not your friend, Leo. Let's get this over with."
