Yes… I don’t know if the Prince can be completely trusted. He may know something he’s not saying-
The PrinceGuestAh, thank you. And of course I know things I’m not saying, such as that 1+1=2 (or so we have always thought… *ominous movie music* /jk), but really how can you think I’m not the soul of honor >:0 Glad you’re enjoying, though!

The PrinceGuestHigher than the SunThird time trying to post this… hopefully it’ll go through this time.
Day 4, Part 2
We spent the whole morning on the water, and by the time we got back to the Palace, we were tired and hungry and happy. We’re a smaller band, but we’re still strong, Dragonfly couldn’t help thinking, a bit to her surprise; everyone missed Crescent and Kauri, of course, but they still had each other.
We had lunch while the Palace regaled us with choice bits of music (mostly Carlos Baute, if it must be confessed, because the Author couldn’t resist the temptation), and afterwards we all removed to the garden by common consent. There was a glimpse of the sea in the distance from here too, and there were arches with flowers climbing over them that lent a dreamy fragrance to the air. It was one of those days, rare even in the Palace, in which sunlight seemed to linger forever and everything seemed to be right without even trying and peace was omnipresent.
In the middle of all this, Irile showed up, and everything turned into hilarity and chaos and laughter. Hawkstar had gotten used to constant fuss and was peacefully reading Unraveled, and the rest of us were playing word games and trying to decipher the language of the unicorns, who had wandered over and wanted to participate. The Palace had thoughtfully arranged a little karaoke session, though with no screens, so Finior went off to fetch some microphones and we sang together on the lawn with sunset fading away across the long grasses and kindling flames in the distant ocean. Charades naturally followed, and when we’d laughed ourselves out with that, we sat about eating supper in the open air.
“I still insist that I couldn’t have been taken for anything but a penguin,” Dragonfly insisted.
“Not making anything up here, I honestly thought you were a businessman,” Oro said.
“Since when have businessmen looked like penguins?” Dragonfly asked.
“Since forever,” rainswept said wisely.
“I love how we keep having peaches,” Rigel remarked, softly; she was sitting in the grass, leaning back against one of the benches. (Not quite the way benches are supposed to be used, but ah well.)
“I like them myself,” I agreed. “They’re very cool.”
“Idk why, but I always think of strawberries as the ultimate fruit of the Palace,” Irile said.
“But it’s the Palace of the Sun,” Hawkstar pointed out; now that she’d gotten successfully through more than half of Unraveled and would have gotten as much Keefe as she wanted if such a thing were even conceivable (which it wasn’t; more Keefe was aLwAyS better <3), she was once more able to participate in the conversation. “Shouldn’t it have a yellow fruit? Or maybe tangerines or something?”
“Yeah, peaches are actually reddish on the outside,” Oro contributed.
“They are??” rainswept said. “No, I’m joking. Still, on the outside they’re like a setting sun –” she gestured to the sinking globe that was illuminating the whole world with glory – “and inside they’re like a normal sun. So aren’t they kind of perfect?”
“What do you think about it, Palace?” Hawkstar asked.
“‘Strawberry fields forever,’” sang the Palace, skipped a few lines, and lighted on “‘It doesn’t matter much to me.’”
“Well, there you go,” Rigel said, laughing.
Dragonfly had been watching the way light flooded through the leaves of the plants and onto the happy faces around the circle. She leaned closer to rainswept. “Could we talk for a sec?” she asked. There were so many thoughts going around in her head, and she needed to discuss them with someone.
“Ofc,” rainswept said, getting up. They only took a few steps away from the group; they both remembered what I’d said about staying together. “What’s up?”
“Doesn’t it strike you that… the Prince actually told us that he’s just trying to convince us to like him and Irile. Couldn’t he just be putting all this on? What are we doing, having a good time with him? Who knows what his ends actually are. We don’t trust him, do we?”
“Maybe not completely. But…”
“I know, it’s just a thought. It just seems so… especially after Crescent and Kauri. It just feels like we need to keep in mind that the guy does have ulterior motives here. Oh, hi, Finior.”
“I had a question myself, actually,” rainswept said. “You’d probably know the answer, Finior. If the King doesn’t like Irile, why doesn’t he just disappear her?”
“Good question,” Dragonfly agreed.
“That’s rather complicated,” Finior told them. “Disappearing gets people back to their homes, but Irile’s home is Sairelin, so it wouldn’t work. And also… she’s of this world. It doesn’t work quite the same. What exactly did H tell you…?”
“Just about why he took us here, and the reasons for the disappearances,” Hawkstar said. “And how the disappearances work.”
“Hey, you three,” Oro called. “Do you happen to know what a baby giraffe does when it gets angry?”
They rejoined the group, the warmth of their togetherness reaching out to them.
