underwhelmedHi guys. Has anybody else noticed how inactive the Chatterbox has been since the update? 🙁
I know it took months of the Chatterbox being down to update the site (which isn’t normally how website updates work??), so I think that maybe that’s what chased everybody away. If it wasn’t the break, it might’ve been the update itself. Other than topping threads, pretty much none of the suggestions in the thread where the Admins asked us what we wanted were implemented. Not even the biggest one, keeping the old logo and color palette!! We get the boring, unattractive corporate design. I can understand that it took a lot of work to revamp the site and I’m thankful for the effort, but it kind of feels like we’re left off worse than it was before. The website looks bland and can barely handle images.
I guess people are moving to different sites too? This is in absolutely no way meant to offend the Admins, but it’s a little undeniable that kids are moving to sites where an automated moderator can get your post up in seconds. Plus, those sites allow more in terms of what can be posted. Nothing inappropriate, but they allow a lot more space for more genres. I feel like if anything remotely in the horror genre is posted on here, the Admins are quick to say ‘that’s too scary.’ Scary? Most of them barely touched Goosebumps (a kid’s series!!) levels! There’s a thing with romance too. Two boys making eye contact is too inappropriate for the CB?? I don’t get that at all. Still, thank you for what you do Admins.
Does anybody have any ideas to revive this website at all?? Threads used to be updated multiple times a day, not once weekly! It’s sad. Thoughts?

AmethystGuestYeah, it has been a bit quiet, though right now specifically it might have something to do with the ~holiday rush~. I think the website is definitely a downgrade, too, but that said, I’m not sure why you think that a lot of people are leaving? There seems to be more or less the usual coming and going of CBers; some older CBers outgrow the site or become too busy to keep up with it (or don’t like the change, it’s true), but new ones come in their place. I definitely don’t think the admins are a problem; the CB has always worked beautifully with them, and I, for one, actually appreciate the wait for comments to be posted. It encourages one to not be constantly glued to the CB and makes for a pleasant pace; I think it also creates an environment in which one can really sit and think about a comment before posting it, rather than posting tons of stuff instantaneously and maybe regretting it later.
Also, it stands to reason that the admins’ parameters might not match up perfectly with everyone’s, but overall, they do do a really good job. They’re right to block horror content, for example (in fact, I’m even in disagreement with the prevalence of death ski lodges); scientifically speaking, it’s an unhealthy genre that adolescents and children especially should not be exposed to. Furthermore, you can always find it in other places; there’s no need to share it with the CB specifically, and in order to keep it a healthy, happy place, you really shouldn’t. I also don’t quite see where you’re coming from with the “they don’t allow romance/diversity”?? There’s a ton of AE shipping, for example, as well as discussion of homosexuality/etc. Shutting down a few comments that go deeply into that makes sense, since this is, after all, a website partially aimed at young children who don’t have to stress about “what gender they are” for a few years yet, and who might simply get mixed up about things; but I can’t recall many instances in which the admins have even done that.
Anyway, not to invalidate your points; it would be nice if the CB was a bit more active :/ I’ve had a couple of thread ideas going about in my mind for a while, so I might post them, and it would be lovely if there were more threads in general! Topping old threads or recreating their ideas might also help.

ThalorwinGuestI wasn’t around on the CB when it was the old website, but I have found it to be sort of slow recently. Maybe it’s the holidays. I agree with Amethyst that it’d be great if the CB was more active. And, yeah I just agree with Amethyst on basically all of it.

HawkstarGuestYes, it has been slower. The Poetry Contest thread fades away constantly, there are never any ski lodges, haven’t seen very many RPs, sometimes no one posts for over 24 hours (which used to be super rare!) I can blame myself some, ever since I moved and have been living in a house with no Internet, I have dropped off of here a ton. Also, a few Cbers have left for good or indefinite hiatus.

<3GuestI miss the old CB too. Maybe in a slightly different way.
I miss the days when it was impressive to have a thread at the top of a page. I miss the boarding school RPs, the Forest RP, the deranged variations of snowball fights, the AE cafes, the old Ski Lodges, the site-wide obsession with dragons, and all of those other beloved thread genres. I miss Agent Winter, micearenice, Bakerloo, Emekittycon Kitten, Lazerbat, Luminescence, Fidelity, Viola, Sammy E., Sybill, Lord Entropy, Luna-Starr, the works. I wish I could talk to any of them again, see how they’re doing.
That’s more of a nostalgia thing I guess. Back then, the CB was the only escape for me from a not-so-amazing childhood. I was checking it all the time. I was on enough to differentiate the Admins’ writing styles!! I had a favorite. No offense, other Admins, you were all great. I called whoever it was “Lucy.” No telling if that Admin was actually a woman. Maybe “Lucy” was short for “Luciano”? Who knows!
I’m not thrilled with the update, but I think the most devastating thing that was lost was the community. It’s not the same. It feels like a ghost town. I know it’s the holidays, but even before they kicked in the CB was pretty vacant. I thought it would eventually return to normal, but after a year since the update, it is yet to catch up to the rate of its “glory days.” It might be a long process, but for the sake of current users I hope the magic of the old Chatterbox returns. I don’t even post here anymore. Technically haven’t for years! I just come back to read some old threads when I’m feeling down.
CAPTCHA says nothing. Not feeling talkative today. If you know, you know! 😉

PoinsettiaGuestwaaaaaaa that’s so true I miss the old CB so much :((( (although i think I joined a little bit after the era you’re remembering).
the old CB was just so amazing… but I do have hope for the CB we have now. it’s still a nice website, and besides, the CB was very different when it started in about 2008. So if it managed to evolve into the wonderful site we remember, it could achieve that wonderfulness once again in the future.
if you know any people irl who seem like the right type for the CB, maybe you could introduce them to the website? I could try that too… also if you ever want to post something or start a snowball fight or something, we would all love that! Were hay fights one of the snowball-fight versions?

Azalea@AdminGuestI tried to post here yesterday, and then I tried to test by just posting something random to see if it got deleted and that didn’t show up either?? So one more try, @Admin if you know what might have gone wrong!

AdminModeratorI don’t know. I don’t remember seeing anything from you recently. Be sure you complete a CloudFlare box. If you don’t get one at first, go back and look at your comment and see if you get the box on the second try.
