feel free to list what you’re reading, and what you think of it! if you have any book recommendations, feel free to give those too, i’m (and i’m sure others are, too) looking for new books.
if you’d like, write a review on the book you’re reading (yes, i made a form, since i’m aware how fond of forms we CBers are):

ThalorwinGuestThanks Vice.virsus.virtue for reviving this forum!! 🙂 I was gonna do something, I just couldn’t think of what… great idea!! I love forms!! 🙂
Book Title: Percy Jackson and the Olympians; The Lightning Thief
Author: Rick Riordan
Genre: fantasy/Greek Mythology
Completion status: read at least 4 times
Enjoyment Level: 10
Humor level: why’d you ask? 10, it’s soooo funny (well just makes you chuckle)
Romance level: about a three, the main character has a major crush, but it’s not mushy or too lovey
First thoughts: it’s a high-level action and fighting novel that’s funny and slightly
Romantic.OPTIONAL summary: Percy Jackson learns that he’s different, he’s a half-blood. SPOILER: he’s the son of Poseidon. He gets chased by a Minotaur to a safe haven for all sons and daughters of gods, Camp Half-Blood. Soon, Percy gets framed for taking Zeus’s lightning bolt. He goes on a quest with his two friends, Annabeth, fellow half-blood, and Grover, a satyr.
Favorite parts/moments: well for me, it’s a character… “Smelly Gabe” or Gabe Ugliano
Least favorite part/moment: when they kind of get sort of kind of stuck with Ares.
OPTIONAL favorite quotes: *checking wall for book quotes* *sigh* *couldn’t find one*
Final Thoughts: Well, it’s a very good, detailed, action-filled novel with lots of thrilling moments. If you love fantasy, this is for you. It’s also book one in a series following Percy in his life as a half-blood.
Thanks for making this v.v.v.

Victor's VillageBook Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Genre: Dystopian, YA
Completion Status: more than halfway done
Enjoyment Level (how much you liked it on a scale of 1/10, 10 being the best book you’ve ever read): 8
Humor Level (same as enjoyment, just how funny you thought it was): 5 (there are some funny moments, though most of it is quite serious)
Romance Level (some people might not like romance in their books, so this will help romance-averse readers avoid it): like a 5 or 6, the romance isn’t central to the plot and though there is kissing, it isn’t explicit or anything
First Thoughts (use 1 sentence to describe the book or what you thought/felt about it): I was quite excited to read it since I’ve only watched the movies
OPTIONAL Summary (if you mention spoilers, please give a warning beforehand so that potential readers can fully enjoy the book): Katniss Everdeen, a 17-year-old girl from District 12 of Panem, volunteers as tribute instead of her younger sister Primrose.
Favorite Parts/Moments: Hmm I think I quite liked the “star-crossed lovers” act that Katniss and Peeta had that later developed into true feelings
Least Favorite Parts/Moments: (spoiler) the death of Rue
OPTIONAL Favorite Quotes: “Stay alive.” – Haymitch
Final Thoughts (more detailed version of First Thoughts): I’m not finished with it yet, but thus far, I think it’s definitely a worthwhile read and I get the hype.

TheTeaDragonGuestThis book is awesome.
Book Title: Shady Hollows
Author: Juneau Black
Genre: Murder Mystery
Completion Status: 100% Complete
Enjoyment Level: 8/10-10/10
Humor Level: Not too funny but it does have some lighter moments.
Romance Level: Barely any romance except at the end.
First Thoughts: Amazing! The other two books (Cold Clay & Mirror Lake) are in my to read stack.
Summary: WARNING, SPOILERS AHEAD. So it starts out with Gladys (hummingbird) finding Otto’s (toad) dead body in the pond outside the sawmill. She goes to her job but is obviously upset, which Vera (fox) sees and through some coaxing learns that Otto is dead. The book is about Vera discovering clues and almost getting killed herself. Oh, and Reginald von Beaverpelt (beaver) is also killed. He runs the sawmill. Eventually Vera finds out that Ruby (sheep) was the killer. She had killed Otto so he wouldn’t go accidently saying that she was blackmailing Reginald. She killed Reginald when he wouldn’t run away and be with her forever (they were having an affair together). After a intense scene, Ruby falls off a cliff and dies. The romance is Deputy Orville (bear) goes on a date with Vera.
Favorite Part:(SPOILERS) The suspense at the end of the book between Ruby and Vera.
Least Favorite Part: When Lefty’s (raccoon) girlfriend appears and takes Vera to meet Lefty.
Favorite Quote:(SPOILERS) It’s not said by anybody but I still love it. Couldn’t find the actual bit but it basically says “BS stands for blackmailing sheep!”
Final Thoughts: I absolutely love it and I think more people should read this series. It only has 3 books but since Shady Hollow is great I presume that they’re all great. It’s definitely something that someone who likes Murder mysterys should try.

PoinsettiaGuestHooray, a form! and a great thread! thank you!
Book Title: Jeeves and the Tie that Binds
Author: P. G. Wodehouse
Genre: comedy/satire
Completion Status: I finished it a few days ago!
Enjoyment Level (how much you liked it on a scale of 1/10, 10 being the best book you’ve ever read): 7.
Humor Level (same as enjoyment, just how funny you thought it was): 6.
Romance Level (some people might not like romance in their books, so this will help romance-averse readers avoid it): it’s hard to say. Nobody falls in love with anybody, but there are a few engagements, as the setting is 20th-century Britain.
First Thoughts (use 1 sentence to describe the book or what you thought/felt about it): It was very delightful and funny
OPTIONAL Summary (if you mention spoilers, please give a warning beforehand so that potential readers can fully enjoy the book): basically Bertie Wooster, a young-ish upper-class British bop, tries to help his friend Ginger win an election… but all sorts of things go awry, and it falls to Jeeves, Bertie’s capable butler, to set everything right.
Favorite Parts/Moments: when Bertie is trying to talk with Mrs. McCorkadale, another election candidate. Oh, and when he accidentally steals someone’s camera!
Least Favorite Parts/Moments: when he gets re-engaged to Madeline Bassett, maybe?
OPTIONAL Favorite Quotes:
Bertie: “I’m my aunt’s nephew!”
Bertie: “She’s my aunt.”
Bertie’s friend: “Oh, then she must be your cousin!”
Bertie: “No, my aunt. You can’t be both.”Final Thoughts (more detailed version of First Thoughts): it’s really one of the best of the Bertie and Jeeves books. Sometimes Wodehouse’s humor is sort of heavy, like a loaf of bread that hasn’t been leavened properly, but this one is sparkling and light and witty. Definitely recommend it:)

SheBook Title: The UNWANTEDS: Island of Fire
Author:? I don’t remember.
Genre: Dystopian fantasy
Completion Status: About halfway through.
Enjoyment Level (how much you liked it on a scale of 1/10, 10 being the best book you’ve ever read): 7 out of ten, great but didn’t particularly stand out.
Humor Level (same as enjoyment, just how funny you thought it was): 3. It’s not drab and boring, but it’s not a comedy.
Romance Level (some people might not like romance in their books, so this will help romance-averse readers avoid it): 4. There are a couple of characters with crushes, but no one’s dating or anything.
First Thoughts (use 1 sentence to describe the book or what you thought/felt about it):It’s a really satisfying idea, and the plot is pretty well thought out .
OPTIONAL Summary (if you mention spoilers, please give a warning beforehand so that potential readers can fully enjoy the book): Every year, the citizens are separated into three groups: Wanted, Unwanted, and Necessary. The Wanteds go to college, the Necessaries work, and the Unwanteds are put to death. Actually, they unwanteds get rescued and become part of a magical, creative land called Artimé. In the third book, the main character has to rebuild Artimé from scratch because it has been destroyed. That’s as far as I’ve gotten.
Favorite Parts/Moments: Probably all the times Alex (main character) spends with Sky, who can’t talk because of a choker of thorns woven into her neck. It’s really interesting to see how she communicates.
Least Favorite Parts/Moments: Probably the scene where he rebuilds Artimé. The aftermath is interesting, but the actual spell he casts seems somehow lacking.
OPTIONAL Favorite Quotes:
Final Thoughts (more detailed version of First Thoughts): I think it’s a good book with good characters and a good plot, and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Greek-inspired ConstellationsBook Title: Heroes of Olympus: The Mark of Athena
Author: Rick Riordan
Genre: Fantasy/Greek mythology
Completion Status: Just finished yesterday!
Enjoyment Level (how much you liked it on a scale of 1/10, 10 being the best book you’ve ever read): 8.5/10 Very enjoyable read and full of adventure
Humor Level (same as enjoyment, just how funny you thought it was): 7 There were plenty of hilarious bits in there that lightened the serious mood of the journey
Romance Level (some people might not like romance in their books, so this will help romance-averse readers avoid it): 7-8, there is a lot more romance in HOO than PJO, with three couples who are dating, and there is kissing involved, and although the romance plays a more central role than previous books, it’s all clean, MG level and even if you don’t like romance, it would still be an enjoyable book since the romance is mostly subplots
First Thoughts (use 1 sentence to describe the book or what you thought/felt about it): I thought it was an exciting and memorable journey filled with action and wit that makes it never boring.
OPTIONAL Summary (if you mention spoilers, please give a warning beforehand so that potential readers can fully enjoy the book): The seven demigods of the prophecy – Percy, Annabeth, Leo, Piper, Jason, Hazel, and Frank – finally unite, and begin their journey to Rome, amidst a looming threat from Gaea, monsters at every corner, and more. (minor spoiler) The ending was 😭 like one of the most tragic moments of the series (out of quite a few unfortunately)
Favorite Parts/Moments: The Percy and Annabeth reunion in the beginning! Percybeth <3
Least Favorite Parts/Moments: The last moment of the book, not that it was written badly but because it was so tragic
OPTIONAL Favorite Quotes: “‘Behold!’ Percy shouted. ‘The god’s chosen beverage. Tremble before the horror of Diet Coke!'” One of many similarly hilarious quotes.
Final Thoughts (more detailed version of First Thoughts): I would definitely recommend it to Greek/Roman mythology fans and fantasy lovers and book lovers in general.

ThalorwinGuestBook Title: Daughter of the Deep
Author: Rick Riordan
Genre: Sci-fi
Completion Status: I think 8 chapters left?? Maybe…
Enjoyment Level (how much you liked it on a scale of 1/10, 10 being the best book you’ve ever read): Probably an 8. It’s really good, makes your heart beet faster, but not the best book I’ve read.
Humor Level (same as enjoyment, just how funny you thought it was): not as funny as PJO, though has some humor. I’d give it a 6
Romance Level (some people might not like romance in their books, so this will help romance-averse readers avoid it): has some romance between the main character and another guy, so maybe a 6
First Thoughts (use 1 sentence to describe the book or what you thought/felt about it): good, funny, has some romance, but a really good read that’ll make your heart beat faster at the end of each chapter.
OPTIONAL Summary (if you mention spoilers, please give a warning beforehand so that potential readers can fully enjoy the book):
Favorite Parts/Moments: maybe when they get to the island I forgot the name of.
Least Favorite Parts/Moments: the end of the first chapter. I won’t give any spoilers, but it’s sooo sad!!! 🙁
OPTIONAL Favorite Quotes: don’t remember any…
Final Thoughts (more detailed version of First Thoughts): I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s so good so far!!!

vice.verses.virtueGuestoodles!
lost to the sands of timei’m delighted how many people have used this so far! thank you so much for keeping this alive, i’ve been looking for fellow readers/book recommendations.
Book Title: the catcher in the rye.
Author: j.d. salinger.
Genre: realistic fiction.
Completion Status: complete (completed in 2024, although recently reread).
Enjoyment Level (how much you liked it on a scale of 1/10, 10 being the best book you’ve ever read): 10/10. it has its issues, being a book from the 50s, but it’s probably one of my favorite (if not my favorite) books that i’ve ever read. i related to holden on such a deep level when i first read it: honestly it’s one of the things that saved me from depression in 2024.
Humor Level (same as enjoyment, just how funny you thought it was): it was probably a 6/10. it’s not the funniest book, but what it lacks in comedy it makes up for in content.
Romance Level (some people might not like romance in their books, so this will help romance-averse readers avoid it): probably a 3. holden (the main character) flirts and dances with someone, but that’s about it.
First Thoughts (use 1 sentence to describe the book or what you thought/felt about it): a bildungsroman fiction book that takes place in the 50s describes a young man’s adventures in new york after being kicked out of school.
OPTIONAL Summary (if you mention spoilers, please give a warning beforehand so that potential readers can fully enjoy the book): no spoilers. the book is about a young man, holden caulfield, who goes to a boarding school in new york. he ends up failing out of school and is forced to return home to the city before winter break starts. the book is mostly thought-driven in the sense that the majority of it is holden’s inner thoughts, feelings, and flashbacks, although a good portion is about what he does in the city.
Favorite Parts/Moments: spoilers. i really liked it when he…ya know…catches that rye. haha, joking, of course. but seriously, his interactions with phoebe were my favorite moments. for my favorite scene, though, probably when he reminisces about south central park and thinks about the large rock and pond with ducks, and how the ducks fly south for the winter (this part is particularly special to me since i read it while visiting new york. before reading it, i had just gone to that exact spot in central park).
Least Favorite Parts/Moments: probably whenever holden says something misogynistic (it was the 50s).
OPTIONAL Favorite Quotes: “Don’t ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody.” ironic that this is my favorite quote and i just posted about the old CB and how it’s shaped me, haha.
Final Thoughts (more detailed version of First Thoughts): n/a since i don’t want to spoil too much!
