Anonymous for nowGuestI miss the old cricket, yes the magazine but especially the chatterbox. I miss when it felt cozy to me around here. Emoticons are being automatically replaced with regular emojis, and that might seem like a small thing but it felt so fun and like a little lost language that people don’t use that much anymore.
When I first joined, it was like this crazy thing, this little corner of the internet that, while it was glitchy and didn’t look like regular social media, was wonderful. Ever since the update, there are many people I haven’t seen around here as much, or even at all. It just doesn’t feel the same.
I’m considering leaving, as I am getting older and the original people I am friends with are around less. This might seem really dramatic, but it’s just the truth.
I really hope that the chatterbox will one day be able to regain a similar feel as before. Also, I’m choosing to stay anonymous for now. If you think you know who I am, please keep it to yourself.
I have one last message: this is a perfect example of how different isn’t always bad. I think the chatterbox is trying to feel more like regular social media, but in doing that it’s losing its magic and what made it fun.

AdminModeratorChange can be really hard, and we all miss parts of the old site. But change is also part of life. It’s okay to miss the old things and cherish memories of the past. It can also help to try and appreciate the good parts, the friendships still here, and the chance to grow. I understand this isn’t the same thing, but you can still view the old site via the Wayback machine if you’re missing the layout too much. And sometimes we just outgrow things, and that’s okay too. Regardless, we’re glad you’re part of the brilliant community on the CB.

PoinsettiaGuestwell really why are my posts on this thread disappearing??? (this is just for the sake of posting something to see if that makse the other posts show up)

AmethystGuestsadness :/Oh my gosh, I know – I feel exactly the same :(( That the old CB was so wonderful, and the new CB honestly isn’t half as nice. I miss the uniqueness and the magic of the old site, and the crazy hilarity of some of the old CBers (and just the old CBers themselves, obviously), and the non-social-media feel, and everything else you’re saying… I’ll be really sad if you leave, whoever you are, but I get it, and I really hope you’ll come back for Valentine’s Day reunions or, at the very least, know that we remember you and love you <33
Also, @admin… not to be rude, and I know that you’re trying to be positive and helpful, but I think it’s not really helpful and it’s even a little patronizing to say that kind of thing? Yes, change is hard, but sometimes that’s simply because change isn’t good. Having lost the old CB was definitely not good, and the underlying problem isn’t just that “we just outgrow things” but we have “a chance to grow” – it’s that our community isn’t quite the same. I understand that you probably didn’t mean it to sound that way, though:)

AdminModeratorAmethyst, we all were sad to have to shut down the old Chatterbox so abruptly due to a security threat. For a while we weren’t sure if or when Chatterbox could resume. So we are most grateful to our webmaster and other technicians who were able to build a new Chatterbox and make it live! We Admins appreciate and enjoy the magic that is created by all you Chatterboxers in your writings——stories, poems, monthly checkups, ski lodges, Kyngdom adventures, etc.—— and conversations.

Amethyst@adminGuestYes, of course! All you admins and the Webmaster did an amazing job of preserving the CB in itself and enabling us to keep going, for which, obviously, I’m very grateful. I didn’t mean that at all; my main point was just that it’s sad that the CB changed in so many other, unnecessary ways just because of a security threat… it seems a little extreme :/ Again, though, truly, I do appreciate all the work you’re constantly doing to allow the CB to keep going <3

PoinsettiaGuestCity of Eternal Romanceso as it’s late I’d better be quick, but my earlier post disappeared so here’s what it said in a nutshell:
-yes exactly, you’re so right, it isn’t the same anymore which is really sad
-the CB was actually really different about ten years ago, and in like 2008-2010, and it still had the old format, so maybe it’s not so much the format as the community members – and if it managed to leave behind the 2008 version and become the 2021-2022 version that was so wonderful, with Hex and Darkling and Jaybells and Periwinkle and Lumi and so on, maybe even more amazing phases are up ahead for it.
-please stick around!! i miss all the old CBers so much, and it would be wonderful to have you around for a bit whoever you are <3 it would also really help the CB activity level/atmosphere in general <3
-the Wayback Machine is definitely a really good resource
-aaaah it’s so sad that the old format is gone you have my sincere sympathies and optional hugs and positivitea because yeah it’s tough :/ feel free to rant more if you need to -
WildWolfGuestYes I totally get what you mean. It’s so sad! I’m glad we got to experience it while we could, at least.
I agree with what people have been saying, it’s amazing that the CB exists at all after the cyber attack tysm to everyone who got it back up…but all of the changes recently seem really unnecessary, like the magazines joining together, the chatterbox being for the people from all the magazines, and especially the changes made to the look of it. I agree with what you said about it trying to look more like regular social media. ://
Anyway, please don’t leave!!! I think what makes the chatterbox… the chatterbox is the people, and if you leave then it’ll be yet another one of the people who were here before the update who’s gone. If you do leave though, I hope you come back for the reunions. :))

WildWolfGuestAnd I miss the CAPTCHAs so much!! :((( poor Addie has gone extinct.
-
AmethystGuestI do miss Origami *sniffs*Whoa, I suppose captchas do count as an extinct species now! How sad :/ I can see the CB history books, though: “Once a flourishing species, cared for and adopted as pets by the native humans of Chatterbox, captchas disappeared with astonishing rapidity; some accounts even suggest they vanished ‘from one day to the next’. Possible reasons for this mass extinction include cybersecurity attacks, general movements towards a new site which had an unfavorable climate for captchas, and replacement by the Cloudflare genus.”

A Celestial Skythat would be a great description to put in the history books (like the ultimate guide).
It is so unfortunate that Twilight has gone extinct…

LydiaGuestHey! That sounds like an interesting idea. Maybe you guys should make a “History of the Chatterbox” for us newbies!
