Beluga Whale
Guest35 - 50 years
Arctic Ocean 🐳Post as a marine animal and have others guess!
Did you know that June 8th is World Oceans Day? (I’m 2 days late but still!) And beluga whales are called the canaries of the sea because of the sounds they make!

bull shark
Guestfresh and saltwaterthe bull shark is just about the only shark I fear, for two reasons: one, they attack unprovoked for fun, because that’s just how they are. and two, I once was circled by a group of them in the middle of the night stranded on a jet ski while being pulled along in water that I was slowly sinking into behind a Navy patrol boat. long story. might have to tell it sometime. but despite my fear for them, they are rather interesting–did you know some have been found up the Mississippi River? they travel up freshwater rivers to reproduce.

Vaquita
Guestaka panda of the seas/the smiling panda
the northern end of the Gulf of California in Baja California, MexicoI’m a vaquita! I’m the world’s smallest and cutest porpoise, and I’m also one of the most endangered animals in the world!! Because of illegal gillnet fishing in my habitat, there are estimated to only be about nine of my kind left! If we can switch the fishing gear fishers (not the weasels—I mean people who fish in my habitat for a living!) use for gear that isn’t as prone to bycatch (catching other, unintended animals, such as my species, dolphins, turtles, birds, and sharks, etc.), then us vaquitas have a chance at thriving! However, the also illegal totoaba fish trade and other factors, which lead to gillnets in our habitats, have been killing us off. Please help save us by choosing sustainable seafood when you shop or eat at restaurants (you can find useful guides online about this like the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch?) and spreading the word!! Thank you!
