Booksy OwlyParticipantPoetry Contest
Well, we haven’t had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!
The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.
The first theme will be… *dramatic drumroll*
Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by… Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?
I hope to see your poems soon!

wandering barefoot in forest greenI’ll just put my (attempt at Emily Dickinson style) poem here again to make it easier (so you don’t have to look at both threads):
To wander barefoot in Forest green –
Truly! Nothing else can compare
To the feeling of grass beneath your feet
And a soft breeze – dancing in the airTo follow a River step by step –
Away from the City and its crowd:
To this day I wonder how they accept
Suffocating in its smoky Shroud
To escape Society and its Glare
And release! From its gilded cage
As a Bird that takes to the air –
Fleeing from the fire and its rageTo follow Raindrops in their race –
Marvel at the Creatures that emerge!
To rest in an Old Oak’s warm embrace
And hum to a mourning dove’s dirgeTo experience the greatest Wonder of all –
When Nature finally grants you Her Gift:
With Animals both great and small
Emerging to play as if you did not existTo wander barefoot in Forest green –
Truly! Nothing else can compare
To the feeling of grass beneath your feet
And a soft breeze – dancing in the air -

HawkstarGuest-Lost in the Woods (Lost in me?)
Pacing dirt paths
(So lost)
Nervously peering
Looking
For a sign
(Which way is which?)
It’s hard to tell were east or west is
When dark clouds cover the sky
Things have been going south
(I wish literally)
Studying tree trunks
Moss grows on northern side, right?
Or is that just
A myth
(Stories told to confuse)
The sun is surely setting
Because it’s getting darker
Or am I just heading deeper
Into myself
This dark
Forest?
And when I come to crossroads
I always want to just backtrack
But with life
You can’t always
(Well, never)
Do that.
When you hesitate to long
The trails seem to shift
Multiply
And four ways becomes eight
Ten
Twenty-five
One hundred
And the choices are overwhelming
At this point in time
I don’t know what to do!
Can someone just tell me
Which way do I go from here?
(That depends, on where you want to get to!)
I don’t much care where
Just OUT
(Then it doesn’t matter, which way you go!)
So long as I get…
Somewhere.
No wonder Alice
Was mad
I’m mad
Crazy
In my head
When you’re stuck
With only your own voice
For guidance
Is the time you wish
For once
You hadn’t made the choice
To push everyone away
And barrel headfirst
Into your
(Bad)
Decisions
And become hopelessly lost
In the forest
Of your mind.
