the willowwacksrandom facts!
– Nix has a snake plant named Steve. it has seemingly died like three times by now, and each time Nix gets Fir to perform plant necromancy (ie. actually watering it), which revives it.
– Arum wants tattoos in theory but since she’s afraid of needles, she mostly settles on henna tattoos. They’ve actually gotten pretty good at applying henna themselves!– Fir and Mirage are biological siblings, but all of my AEs consider each other siblings, more or less.
– Koi (who is a cat btw) used to be a witch’s familiar.bringing back the putting-your-playlist-on-shuffle-and-assigning-each-song-to-an-AE thing! >:D
– Running with the Wolves (AURORA) – the lyrics definitely describe Vanadium, but Fir would probably the one listening to it.
– Afraid of Heights (boygenius) – this actually reminds me a lot of Mirage’s backstory </3
– She’s the Prettiest Girl at the Party, and She Can Prove It with a Solid Right Hook (Frank Iero) – Vanadium would listen to this but i feel like it kind of fits Nix’s attitude towards romantic relationships (though he’s not attracted to girls)
– Joanie (Rabbitology) – Fir would listen to this but i think the lyrics best fit Arum? idk
– Oh No! (MARINA) – this one actually fits an AE i have yet to introduce, Larkspur! but i can see Arum listening to and singing it :] -

GuestPenny LaneHey, I was just wondering if any of yall know if there has been a CBer or AE on here ever named Scarlett. I’m thinking of adding an AE by that name but i just wanted to make sure no one else has a Scarlett. (just to avoid confusion)
-
Admin
ModeratorI don’t remember any Scarlett. If the name was used in the past, I’d say it was a long time ago and not frequently. You could try doing a search for the name.
-
Admin
ModeratorI just did a search and found an AE Scarlett from 2020. If you search the same, you can check out all the places Scarlett is found. The search is a bit slow, so be patient. The search box is at the top right of the home page.

GuestPenny LaneDo you think it would be okay if I had a Scarlet with just one ‘t’ like the shade of red, especially seeing that it was years ago?

Admin
ModeratorAbsolutely! Go for it!

the willowwacks@Coyote, yeah, i think you can totally make an AE named Scarlet! anyone who might’ve had an AE named Scarlet(t) doesn’t seem to be active anymore, so i don’t think there’d be any confusion. i, for instance, have an AE named Koi, even though there’ve been. like. three different AEs named Koi throughout the years :p anyway, i’d be excited to meet your Scarlet (if you do decide to make that their name) :]
aaand some more AE fun facts because i love these silly guys~
– Vanadium has mild synesthesia–he strongly associates colors with words and letters/numbers, and sees colors when he hears music.
– Arum is actually surprisingly good at walking in high heels, considering she only ever seems to wear sneakers. like, they could probably sprint and do karate in heels. which might tell you a thing or two about her backstory~~
– Most of my AEs play instruments! Nix plays electric guitar, Arum drums, Mirage plays the piano, and Vanadium owns a bass guitar but if it’s up to interpretation whether they can play it or not. Nix wants them to start a band, but they argue too much for it to ever work out.
– the house where all my AEs (and my CB self) live is called the Willowwacks. idk if i’ve ever actually said that or just implied it, but. yeah. -

Guestdunno if this is the right spot for it, but–I’m still mildly confused as to what AEs are. like OCs, but you roleplay as them as well on here? and how would I go about creating an AE? for some reason, whenever I’ve tried to, it always fails. I guess I’m kinda bad at creating characters unless they’re for one of my books or for a very specific, non-1st-person roleplay.

ModeratorAE stands for Alter Ego, Latin for “other I or self.” On Chatterbox, it’s a character people create to show another side of their personality.

the willowwacksbasically what the Admin said—on the CB, AEs (or Alter Egos) represent aspects of their CBer’s personality. for instance, my AE Arum represents my bold, daredevil side, while my AE Mirage represents my artistic, sensitive side. that’s usually just a start, though; many AEs develop more complex personalities and relationships with other AEs. many CBers have their AEs interact (or even be shipped) with others’ AEs, through roleplaying, often at AE parties or events. there’s really no right or wrong way to go about creating an AE–some people just come up with a name and vague personality and let their AE develop through interaction, while others (like me :P) develop their AEs for months before introducing them to the CB. if you want a better idea of what AEs look like in action, you can check out the AE Diaries thread :] and don’t worry if you don’t think you’re very good at creating characters outside of your books; AEs can be a great way to practice :]

Ellesmere @Pangolin
Guestthanks for the explanation! I think I already kind of understood what AEs were, I just needed a little help understanding how they were made and all that. I might come up with one, might not… but it’s a little to close to my personal mental dissociation of personalities and such for me to do it on purpose. thanks though!
