Amethyst@adminsGuest@admins, I posted on Random Thoughts/Things yesterday, and when it didn’t show up, I posted again to ask what had happened. Neither of those posts have appeared; is there a reason for that…?
-
AdminModeratorYes, your comment is pending Admin/Editors consultation, which won’t take place until at least sometime on Monday. And if you seek more explanation about what we may not post, you may email cricket@cricketmedia.com.

Amethyst@adminsGuestThanks.

AdminModeratorAmethyst, thank you for your patience while we shared your concerns with other team members. Cricket Media will NEVER sell any writing on Chatterbox or use writing on Chatterbox to train AI. It is your choice to either share or not share your original writing on Chatterbox, but we will continue to welcome and consider all your comments.

SinusoidalGuestWas that the question? “Will you use my work to train AI or to sell?”
-
AmethystGuest@admins, I’m glad to hear that! Thank you so much for taking the time and care to consider my comment; I really appreciate it. I would still prefer not to share my writing.
I’d also still like to have my comment posted, if possible; it was primarily meant to tell other CBers about my decision and the reason behind it. Thank you
:)

PoinsettiaGuest@Admins, I’ve been following this whole conversation between you and Amethyst (my sister), and I think her concern is still valid. I know you said that Cricket Media wouldn’t ever sell CBers’ writing or use it to train AI, and I really appreciate that. But sadly, AI is a real, actual threat, and the writing on the CB could be used to train it even without the consent of Cricket Media. That’s how AI works, unfortunately – plagiarizing writing that’s been shared on the internet.
It’s not easy for Amethyst to make this decision, and it would be really helpful if you were more supportive of her desire to do what’s right. It’s not fair to delete the posts in which she tries to explain why she’s unable to continue her beloved writing projects. If they seem misleading to you in any way (though in my opinion they were not), a solution could have been to post them but add your own point of view in a comment at the end.
I’m sure you had a reason for deleting the posts, but they did not in any way go against the CB’s guidelines. They were not disrespectful, dishonest, or inappropriate. Deleting them amounts to forcibly blocking ideas for no justified reason, making the CB into a place where people can’t trust what’s being said.
It’s important to let other CBers be aware of what may happen to their writing if they share it on the internet, so that they can make informed decisions. Otherwise, it’s a lack of transparency. After all, if you block a post for no justified reason, how can we trust you when you say that Cricket Media won’t sell our writing?
Anyway, just wanted to put these ideas out there and ask you to please reframe your strategy in your efforts to moderate the CB. I also really hope that you won’t take any of the above personally, because I don’t mean it in a hurtful way. If it does come across that way, I apologize. I’ve always appreciated the work you do for this community, and that hasn’t changed. I’m immensely grateful for this place and the people in it – which is exactly why I would hate to see it degenerate. I hope it can stay the way it always has been, a trustworthy and intelligent community.

AdminModeratorThank you for your comment, Poinsettia. We edited Amethyst’s comment to delete inaccuracies she stated about Cricket Media. This is what we meant by misleading. Then Amethyst asked us to delete the whole edited comment that we’d posted, so we complied with her wishes. She’s welcome to resubmit the rest. But Admins always have the right to edit comments as they see fit. To request a more personal explanation, please email cricket@cricketmedia.com.
