N.C.As a book dragon, I love books. 📕
I would love to hear what your favorite books are!
Please tell me the title and author.
It’s okay if you forget.
Thanks!!!! -
AmethystGuest#errrI'mmoreteamfitzphieYou shouldn’t have asked… *book avalanche happens* I have tons and tons of favorite books.
~The Chronicles of Narnia!!! I’ve reread all seven books hundreds of times, and they never get any less amazing. For those who don’t know, they’re a series about the adventures of different people who get into the magical land of Narnia. My favorite would probably be The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, but I love all of them and always will:)
~Wonder, by R.J. Palacio; it’s beautiful, touching, and will probably be a classic of the ages. A boy called Auggie is bullied because of his facial deformity, but in the year he spends at Beecher Prep, many people will change and many will be more than they seem.
~Every Soul A Star, by Wendy Mass. A bit like Wonder; it’s infused with a sense of stardust and friendship and the miraculous quality of the universe. It’s about three kids who come together to see an eclipse, and though they have very different ideas of what an eclipse means and what the world is like, they all ultimately find unexpected kinship with the others.
~Time At the Top, by Edward Ormondroyd. A girl is transported back in time by a malfunctioning elevator and a modern-day witch, and what she finds there provides a solution to all her problems, a new way of seeing the world, and hope. It should be much more well-known than it is, and it’s a must-read for everyone.
~David Copperfield, by, well, Charles Dickens. I honestly don’t know how Dickens does it – he’s so good at evoking a sense of time, place, character, and everything else without being boring or moralistic. Masterpieces are fun to read :DD
~Momo, by Michael Ende. An Italian girl with nothing but love and an extraordinary gift for listening to people has to save her friends from the cold, evil time-thieves – the men in gray who are taking away the joy of living from her town.
~The Eagle of the Ninth, by Rosemary Sutcliff. This one is a little more violent than I usually go, but the writing in itself is breathtaking.
~Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch. Not good writing and not really on a level with the others I’ve listed, but what can I say, Italy and Ren and romcoms <3Well, fourteen books… I’m certain I could think of more, but I’ll leave it at that for now. Btw, @Elizabeth C., if you’re new here, welcome to the CB! Feel free to ask if you have any questions; a lot of them might be answered by the New Ultimate Guide to the CB that pangolin is compiling in Chirp at Cricket:)

PoinsettiaGuestOooooh, favorite books….
Momo by Michael Ende is genuinely one of the best books out there. Set in Italy, it tells the story of Momo, a homeless girl living in an amphitheater. Befriended by the people who live nearby, she has a happy life – until sinister figures start infiltrating the city, threatening to destroy everything that Momo holds dear.
It’s really well-written, with this warm, soulful tone – it’s so humanistic and meaningful. Momo herself (the protagonist) is one of the loveliest characters ever – it feels as if she must be a real person, and she’s so genuine and vivid. Finally, it’s fantasy and there’s plenty of adventure, but it includes the beauty of the real world too – companionship, Italian cities (yay!!!), amphitheaters, the stars, all the quirky and fascinating and meaningful people that you meet in real life, whom you can form beautiful connections with. It’s not just bing-bang-boom!! evil people are taking over!! now there are super-magic-powers and the protagonists can save everything!! That sort of fantasy is fine, but the world of Momo is so much more beautiful…
I’d better go rn, but I’d love to provide more recs when ther’es time!

a tower of booksI have lots of favorite books, too, unfortunately…I don’t think there’s one single best book I’ve ever read, but here are the best ones:
-The Harry Potter series (by J.K. Rowling). I prefer the later ones, like book 4 onward, because the plots are more interesting/complicated. The writing is in my opinion really amazing, and when I’m rereading, I sometimes stumble across little details that turn out to be important later, that I didn’t notice when I first read them but now I’m thinking “Oh yeah…”. I love it when this happens, and I’ve found other authors who do this, but none quite as good.
-The City Spies series by James Ponti. The writing is of decent quality, but the subject is interesting (this group of kids that travels around the world as spies) and it can be quite funny sometimes, while also not having too many jokes.
-The best romance I’ve read is Love Letters for Joy, by Melissa See. It’s sweet, and clever.
–Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie–I think that would probably be my favorite book that’s considered a classic. I love a mystery, and the writing is good, which is nice. -

N.c.Thank you for the recommendations! Amethyst, I love the Chronicles of Narnia!!! Did you know that they are allegory’s? Sea dragon, I also love the Harry Potter books! Poinsettia, Momo sounds good. 👍
Thankyou so much for those recommendations!!!
And Amethyst, I am new to the cb. What really is kingdom? I am kind of confused about it. Thanks again!-
AmethystGueston board the Dawn Treader /bookishHmm, I’m not sure if I’d really thought about their allegory status, but that makes sense… Do you have a favorite Chronicle?
Kyngdom is a fantasy land created by the admins and Cricket’s editors; any Chatterboxer can create a character within that world and roleplay about what happens to the character. There’s a whole section of the CB for Kyngdom, where there are already several RPs going, so if you’re interested, I’d advise looking around there and joining one of them! There’s an Ultimate Guide to Kyngdom; it’s got a lot of lore and a lOT of detail, so if you’re curious, it explains a lot of history. It’s not essential to understanding what’s going on, though!
Also, how could I have forgotten?? Another of my favorite books is The Twilight of Magic, by Hugh Lofting. It’s also fantasy, of the best kind – it’s set in medieval times, but everything changes for two siblings when they find a whispering shell. Hugh Lofting is best known for the Dr. Dolittle series, but The T of M is much, much better:)

AmethystGuestsuccess! I am a human!! You learn something new every day :D*Correction: I actually do know that the Chronicles are allegories, at least as concerns the whole religion aspect; for some reason I just wasn’t thinking about that O_o

CoyoteGuestPenny LaneI can’t say this is an all time favorite book, but I just finished reading The Fault in Our Stars by John Green which was super sad and made me cry, but was also AMAZING. It follows a Hazel, a 16 year old girl diagnosed with terminal cancer who meets the charming Augustus Waters, who is recovering from his own cancer treatment. It addresses friendship, sacrifice, love, and loss and is just amazing over all.

The observable universeMy favorite book would probably be the Ranger’s Apprentice series. The good guys always win, but does anyone watch soccer to watch their team lose? It also has great characters.

Climate beeGuest10
The observable universeI also like A WISH IN THE DARK. It’s based on Les Mis so that’s one of the reasons, but I also think it’s a really good book.
