I love this book! To clarify the plot a bit.....this man decided to build a stimulation of a pioneer village, with people actually living and working in it full round. They would be viewed by tourists using hidden cameras. Originally, the people who decided to live in the village had a contract with the builder saying they would get modern medical care, they could leave the village any time they wanted, etc. But as time went on, the builder stopped providing them medical care and wouldn't let them leave. The kids of the town actually think they're living in the 1800s, because the parents and teachers are forbidden from telling them they're living in a stimulation. But then a deadly disease comes to town, and although the modern world has a cure, the builder won't even acknowldedge the disease and won't provide medical care. So Jesse's mom has to tell her the truth, so that Jesse can secretly sneak out of the stimulation and into the real world to find help. Jesse, however, has never lived in any world other than one with one-room schoolhouses, horse and buggies, and aprons and stockings. She has to navigate an alien planet of cars, phones, even wearing jeans, while desperately trying to find the solution her village needs before it's too late.

Very good read, I recommend it.
