The Girl Who Drank the Moon

by Kelly Barnhill

This book was amazing! It has a great plot, subplots, and sub-subplots. It is about the people of the Protectorate who believe that they have to sacrifice a child every year to the Witch that lives in the woods. However, the witch, Xan, is actually very kind and helps theb babies to get adopted, and also feeds them starlight, which makes them stronger. But one night she feeds baby Luna moonlight instead of Starlight, which "enmagicks" her, and Xan decides to raise Luna herself. While Luna is being raised a lot is going on back in the Protectorate and beyond, and all these subplots come together in the end to create one incredible novel.

I would recommend this to anyone and everyone, but especially 3rd - 8th graders who enjoy fantasy. It gets a perfect score from me.
