When You Reach Me

by Rebecca Stead

I absolutely loved When You Reach Me. It's about a girl named Miranda and her friend Sal in New York. The story is set from 1978-1979. Miranda is twelve years old. One day, Sal gets punched by a boy on the street and doesn't walk home with Miranda anymore. Miranda also gets mysterious, anonymous letters from someone, claiming that they "have come to save your friend's life, and my own." The notes keep coming and Miranda realizes that whoever is giving her these notes knows about things before they happen. It's an epic book and although I never have read any other chapter book twice, I have read this three times.

I loved When You Reach Me.  It is the only book I have read that exceeds the Hunger Games.  It was hard to tell from the book, how did you figure out it was in the late 1970's?

This is a great read! I loved it and I think that the idea for the book was very creative.

@Holmes- I think that the date is mentioned somewhere in the book. I'm not sure when but I also remember it being in the 1970s.

I loved this book. I read it with playaway audiobooks, and the reader was fantastic. I love the character of Miranda, and how much time-travel there is in them. I give this book 4.5 chirps.
