FloridaAssignment #2
12/7/13
Your second assignment is to read Chapters 6-10 of What Katy Did.
There will be no questions to answer, but in a week or so we will have a few character and setting chats and you can give your feedback of the book about what you've read so far. You have had to read Chapters 1-10 in order to participate in the chats. Posts about that will be coming up soon! Please be checking!
Once you have read Chapters 6-10, please comment so I know how many people still need to complete the assignment.
Happy Reading! 🙂

Blonde Heroines RuleParticipantBtw, for the fun of everyone, after you read the book, there is a What Katy Did movie! And *gasp* for those who have gotten to this part, MEAGAN FOLLOWS STARS AS COUSIN HELEN!!!! Now, for those who know how big an Anne of Green Gables nut I am, they also know how much I postively oh my gosh I love this movie my all time favorite movie ever adore Meagen Follows because of it LOVE the Anne of Green Gables movies! So to hear Meagan Follows stars as Cousin Helen (whom I adore) just about sent me through the roof, no kidding. When I saw the trailer, I nearly hit the ceiling screaming my absolute head off, to the point my mom thought the house was on fire! Now, how this could have been made several years ago, and escaped my attention until up till a few months ago, I have no idea. But it's out there, for those who would be interested!

NinaParticipant11
FloridaNo way! There's a movie? I really want to watch that! Is it just for the first book or is it for all three books?
-
Blonde Heroines RuleParticipantI haven't seen it yet, but I think it's just the first. Also, there's actually five books!
What Katy Did
What Katy Did at School
What Katy Did Next
Clover
In High Valley (this one I haven't been able to get my hands on yet. Dang.)

Blonde Heroines RuleParticipant*spoilers below*
Well naturally, Katy is one of my favorites! She's spunky, funny, and very relatable. But I love how she matures throughout the book. She goes from the headstrong, leap before she thinks, tomboy you love, to the sweet, kind, but still has some spunk and fun mature woman you love. Katy is all around loveable.
Clover was another favorite (especially if ya'll read the later books, you will continue to love her!). She sweet tempered, mild mannered, and very caring. In a way to me, she was sort of a reflection of what Katy was to become.
Elsie!!! OHMYGOSH I LOVE SWEET LITTLE ELSIE! IF YOU'VE FINISHED THE BOOK YOU'LL KNOW WHY! Sweet kind Elsie. You've got to love her.
Cousin Helen is another wonderful character. She's gentle, yet very caring and loving. She's full of fun, despite being paralyzed. She loves each of the Carr children, and knows how to make them all feel special. I love the poem she gives Katy about the School of Love and the School of Pain. It went straight to my heart, and even now, I think on the words of it, and try to remind myself of it's lessons.
Aunt Izzie is that quiet character that you don't really appreciate until the end. Anyone who has finished it will understand this.
What Katy Did has SO many loveable characters that you can relate to, and want to read about over and over. This is what makes it one of my three favorites (along with Anne of Green Gables, and Little Women). I'll pass this on to my kids, as my mom, grandmama, and great grandmama, passed it down through their children.

I really liked the chapter called St. Nicholas and St. Valentine. The author created such a pretty picture of all their little holiday set-ups. You can just imagine Katie's room, with the curtains open and the snowy, sparkly view outside. And the fireplace with all the gifts all around it, and the tree. And on Valentine's day, the table and all the treats. It was a very comfortable scene. 🙂
-
Blonde Heroines RuleParticipantMy favorite part was the Christmas and Valentine parts too! I loved reading about Katy getting so happy about planning all those surprises for her family. Susan Coolidge really brougt the emotion through, letting you feel the same, budding excitement Katy felt. I laughed over their exploits of trying to surprise each other, their happiness at their gifts, and the overall love that flowed out of that.
I loved Valentine's Day for the same reason, but also because Cousin Helen gave Katy the poem. I really love that poem, because it holds such strength and truth in it. Does anyone else?

Nina Participant11
FloridaI loved that chapter, too. I agree; it was a very comfortable scene. I also think it was a very friendly, loving, warm scene. You can also imagine Katy and her friend and her siblings, all so happy!
There were so many great parts in the book. I just can't name them all! I love them SO much. 🙂

Florida~Book Club Members Letter~
I hope you have already finished the book if you are reading this letter. If not, it's ok- the letter is a concluding letter, though.
First of all, I LOVED hosting this book club. When I first started it, I had no idea how it would turn out since it was my first one. I think that it was a great success! I liked how you all followed the directions, answered with complete thought on those first questions, and shared your opinions of the book. It was a very organized book club.
Next, what did you think of the book? What rating would you give it on a rating scale from 1 to 10? What character(s) did you like best? What part(s) did you like? (You probably already answered these questions when you answered the Book Club chats I posted.
Lastly, I will be making another book club. I will post a sign up sheet sometime this week. Hope you'll join it, and I will change it up a little bit next time. If you sign up, you must have a copy of the book with you. The book will be The Princess and the Goblin by George Macdonald (unabridged. of course) just in case you want to do my next book club and want a copy of the book ready.
You are free to create your own book club if you were inspired by this one. I would love to check it out! Happy reading!
