AirParticipantThe Ruby speaks! California snow has finally come for the first time in three years but yeahhhh that doesn't mean much. Icy and slushy at once doesn't exactly equal snow. And it doesn't count unless it plops down in your backyard! I live in hope though… ski season isn't quite over yet.
<jazz hands> Responding now! </jazz hands>
Hi, kids: Well, hello to you too.
You're bored: Want to share some of my homework? WWI is interesting in fiction but boring in USH.
You're tired: Oooh, that stinks. Consider us all sharing your pain, hopefully. And good luck.
You're interested: See below.
Who is here: Well, I am, for one. Hi again.
Interests: Reading WW1 fiction and complaining about school and Catholic high school applications.
Things concerning: Worrisome state of the world we're inheriting, notable lack of genetically engineered puppy-sized elephants, need for Catholic high school application acceptances
</response>
My HTML is pretty whacked-out so apologies for incorrect synax. Blame the curriculum that only teaches Pascal.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantWait, it snowed? Seriously? I missed that. Where, up by Truckee?
Hello, hello, hello.
Yeah, sure. What's your homework? Share away. I'll give you fake answers.
What WWI fiction ahve you picked up? That's right, you're starting high school next year if I remember correctly. Good luck.
I'll say it's worrisome all right. Puppy-sized elephants might be an issue. If they became too small to defend from predators, they would either all die out or quickly evolve into a species far surpassing our own intelligence. Then they would inslave us to pull logs as we once did to them.
-
BibliophileParticipant12
Chicago,ILHave you watched Codegirl? It's a documentary about these teams that try to solve a problem in their community by creating an app, and then compete against each other and the winning team gets to have the app on the app store. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because one of the teams is named puppy-sized elephants. They try to make an app to help people with a condition that I forgot the name of… anyway, the condition prevents people from being able to count money or translate coins into numbers, which makes it hard for them to live independently. The app helps them count money and pay for items.
Oh, great, it happened again. Sorry, I have a tendancy to reccomend media, mostly books, to people without introducing myself or commenting in a cilivilized manner. And I'm continuing it my talking about this.
My name is Bibliophile, although my given name isn't Bibliophile, it's Olivia. Bibliophile is more accurate than an olive tree or a rich Shakespearen countess, though, and a lot more fun to say. Anyway, bibliophile is a peson with a great love of books. I found the word in the Letterbox, which is, if youv'e forgotten, the place in the Cricket magazine where the letters from the readers are. I love to read, obviously, and I like to sing, ice skate, swim, and act. I have a pretty boring life in general. I came on Cricket last year in early October.
Side notes:
1. Elephants are very kind, so I agree that if they were puppy-sized, they'd probably evolve into even more intelligent species, but hopefully they'd forgive our ancestors?
2. The previous comment was in no way meant to condone animal cruelty.
3. I also don't particularly enjoy being called a kid, but it's not really such a big deal. My only issue is it's somewhat condescending.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantI love documentaries. I wish I had some free time, then I would watch it for sure. According to Google, it's dyscalculia- the mathematic version of dyslexia. Their app is a cool concept, for sure.
Heh. I do the same. Want to recommend me some good books?
What have you acted in? Do you sing for fun or sing in a choir?
1. To be honest, many elephants still pull logs today, so who knows. Neanderthals and other early hominids were also kind- they worked together to take care of young and honored the dead, much like elephants do. Who knows if vastly intelligent elephants could become cruel.
2. In many cases, it's not cruel. Elephant owners take very good care of their elephants and make sure the elephants wear padding under their harnesses to prevent burns. Although they have to do labor, they are usually rewarded well and taken care of humanely.
3. Oh, I'm sorry. I call everyone under 18 a kid (also I call young goats that), so I'll keep that you don't like it in mine. Everyone here is a Fellow Minor and Good Person, except for Savvy, who is a Good Goat Kid. The best goat.
-
BibliophileParticipant12
Chicago,ILI'll recommend you some books! What genres do you like?
Are you okay with a romance?
-
Ruby M.ParticipantI like science fiction and fantasy best, but anything can be quite good if it's written well. Romance isn't my favorite, but it doesn't make a book bad unless it's written poorly.
-
BibliophileParticipant12
Chicago,ILHi again! Here's the list. Sorry for the romance, but they are really good books anyway.
~~~Fantasy~~~
The Secrets of Nicholas Flamel By Michael Scott
Between the Lines By Jodi Picoult and Samantha VanLeer (romance)
~~~Historical Fantasy (I know you didn't put this down, but these books are really good)~~~
The Glass Sentance
The Apothacary by Malie Meloy (some romance, but not so much that the entire plot is based around it)
~~~Sci-fi/Dystopian~~~
Legend By Marie Lu(Romance)
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Hope you like them!
-
Ruby M.ParticipantI used to hate The Giver, but now I don't mind it. I've heard of some of these books before. I'll check them out next time I go to a library or book store. Thanks, Bibliophile!
The NovelistParticipantThe Secret ForestSorry. I am new here, and I have no idea who you are. I am assuming you were on CB many years ago and came back and now you're like a teenager or an adult now? And now you use less exclamtion points?
At first I thought you were an Admin posting something.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantThank you very much for your comment. You spawned a really, really amusing conversation in a chat with some other CBers. I haven't had such a good time in months.
I've been on and off again the CB for the last year or so. I'm sixteen. I don't think I used many exclamation points to begin with, but you're quite right, there aren't any in that post.
So I'm here to see what the CB is like. Tell me a bit about yourself. (That doesn't sound creepy at all.) What's new around here these days? I look forward to getting to know you for a bit.
-
-
hotairballoonParticipantOh, hi! I'm H.A.B.
Nothing exciting ever seems to happen in my life. As for my interests, I like songwriting, swimming, and animation, although currently I suck at the last one. Practice makes perfect, I suppose.
I don't really know what else to write, so here's a coded message for you to solve. It should translate to a three letter word if you solve it right. "18-7-2: 99, 111, 119"
P.S. Aren't you like eighteen now?
-
Ruby M.ParticipantLong time no see! How's your sister doing?
Wow! Those are all cool things. What style of animation do you do? Do you ever animate music videos for your songs?
Ahhh it's too late for codes. My brain was already put away for the day. rgb: 99 111 119 That's a greyish color. 636F77 Oh, speaking of hard puzzles involving hex, you should check out a set of Youtube Videos called Kaizo Trap. There's a puzzle within the first video that will lead you to the next. It's a lot of work, but it's very fun. Good luck. If you get stuck, I can give you help.
The answer is cow, right?
No, you guys all keep making me out to be a lot older than I really am. I'm barely sixteen and a half, not eighty-five or something like that.
-
hotairballoonParticipant1. Sister? What sister?
2. Yes, the answer is cow. Wow, and you solved it at 1 in the morning, too.
3. Well… I said I liked animation. I didn't necessarily say I was any good at it or that I had picked a style yet. I plan to keep working on it, though.
4. I will check out the Kaizo Trap; it sounds right up my alley (isn't that a weird expression?).
5. No, I've never animated a music video. See #3. Although that's a good idea. I'd need to get someone else to sing them, though, because my voice is atrocious. I haven't even hit puberty yet.
Nice talking to ya.
-
Ruby M. Participant1. Oh geez, sorry. I confused you with John FQ. Yeah, I remember who you are now. Never mind the sister bit.
2. I'm two hours behind Cricket, so it was only eleven. The website just posts Cricket time.
3. I meant, at least, do you do traditional or computer? (2D or 3D?)
4. That is a weird one. According to Google, it's some nonsense from the 1930s.
5. Sing like a dying badger and people will pay you to stop.
It's nice speaking to you, too.
-
hotairballoonParticipantOhh. Yeah, I do digital, but they're still 2D. I don't use Blender or something like that, I just draw them out (or try to).
Rose bud ParticipantHi Ruby! Lately, I've been reading Percy Jackson for the 15,0000th time when I am supposed to be doing my school work, messing with my broken iPod charger plug (one of these days I'm going to get electrocuted), and trying to convice my brothers that an epic wizard battle is just what we need for a show we are making. So really… I haven't been doing much. Right now, I'm trying to condense a four page report into a three minute presentation (A.K.A. I'm reading Percy Jackson and wondering what a condensed report would look like).
-
EchoParticipantDunno...
My RoomHi! I don't know you. I should be doing homework right now.
Bye.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantI feel the exact same way! This is some deja vu right here.
What's your homework about? I am lucky enough to have a lengthy paper on the Parsley Massacre, a small genocide in the 1930s in Hispanolia. I have not managed to spell parsely right once in the paper. It's my grandest accomplishment.
-
-
Ruby M. ParticipantHello, Rose bud! I don't know what you're making, but I agre; you definitely need an epic wizard battle.
For your report, try summarizing the main points of it, and add in only the most crucial details. Also consider that you'll likely speak a bit faster out of nerves, so you can afford a few extra seconds over three minutes during your practice. Good luck!
JossParticipant13
MEHi Ruby!
My name's Joss. Um…. I like Acting, singing, reading, writing, making YouTube videos with my dolls, swimming, running… yeah. Oh, and I'm a Christian.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantHello, Joss! It's nice to meet you.
What have you acted in recently? Do you sing with a choir? What vocal range thingy (you know, soprano, alto, bass, etc.) are you? What's the proper word for vocal range thingy? What demonination of Christian are you?
There, I've asked so many questions you'll be busy for weeks answering them. If any are too personal, don't feel like you have to answer. I'm in a conversational mood, but you don't need to indulge me if you don't want because there's lots of people here already talking.
-
JossParticipantI'm currently in Willy Wonka and I'm playing Veruca Salt. I am in a choir, and I can sing anywhere, really, but I'm in Metzo. I honestly have no idea what the proper word is for the vocal range thingy.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantWikipedia says that it's a voice type. That's awfully simple. Good luck with Veruca Salt. Is she the rich girl who gets carried off by squirrels? How is your theater company going to manage that?
-
JossParticipantYeah, that's Veruca. It's really fun to play her, I get to be really bratty XD. They are going to have a slide that goes either offstage or into a box, and the squirrels will push me off the slide.
Nose In a BookHello! It's nice to meet you, Ruby. You most likely don't know me, but I've heard about you before. I'm Abigail, resident Shakespeare lover, published author, and parakeet enthusiast. Once again, hi!
-
Ruby M.ParticipantNo, I've never seen you before, so nice to meet you! Which Shakespeares are your favorite? I myself am partial to Macbeth. Where did you get published and what for? Also, do you have parakeets? Can you share a photo of them?
-
Abigail S.Participant11
Nose In a Book1. My favorite Shakespeare plays are A Midsummer Night's Dream and As You Like It. I like Macbeth a lot as well.
2. There's a magazine called Stone Soup that publishes writing by kids under 13 all over the world. So far, I've been featured in it 3 times.
3. Yep, I do! Two, in fact. Here's a picture:
The blue one is named Tacoma (we call her Tata or T) and the yellow and green one is Chihuly (Chi). Sorry it's not the best photo…
-
Ruby M.ParticipantBoth of those plays are fantastic. I've had to read Midsummer four times for school, but it's still good. As You Like It is great fun, too.
Nice job with Stone Soup! Looks like you've got a few more years to try again as well. Good luck!
Thanks very much for the picture of your birds. Although no one asked, here is a photo of my cat. She eats things off the floor like a baby and sneezes all over the place, but we love her anyway.
Captcha saus pngi. Sorry, Captcha, it's a jpg.
S.E.ParticipantOK, now I have more time.
Hi Ruby! We've all missed you, believe me. I doubt you remember me (nobody really notices me much, maybe I have superpowers…) but eh who cares?
I exist.
How are you? Boy I am out of things to say (comes after 15 page ranting in journals, hehe).
OK I'm starting over.
Hello, Ruby. We have all missed you. There are lots of new CBers becasue of Kyndom, which I sort of abandoned due to schoolwork (I hate logorithms- and spelling if you can tell) and a huge project I'm doing.
Let's see, who is here: Moi and admins, when this message is read, and you when you read this. My interests: urm writing, theatre, and being sarcastic. And reading LotR and watching the movies and getting over Imposters Syndrome.
My concerns? The US government and my own sanity. This is SE, over and out.
-
Ruby M.ParticipantI remember you really well. You're likely older than I remember, but besides that, I know lots of things. All good blackmail material, I'm sure.
I hate logs too. What are you doing with them, Algebra II stuff?
Being sarcastic is a great hobby, he says sincerely. What do you have Imposters Syndrome about?
I, too, fear for the state of our government and I, too, am too young to vote and change it. What a shame. And SE, to be very serious, if you have legitimate concerns about your sanity, you should see a doctor first and foremost. I'm not a doctor, but if you need someone with a lot of experience (I've been in the hospital and met all kinds of people with all different kinds of conditions, and I participate in a community for people with mental disabilities and illnesses) and a willing ear to listen, ask BHR and she'll show you the means of contacting me privately. I'm always here if you need a friend.
-
S.E.ParticipantThanks. I basically have Imposters with everything, but I'm not depressed (which has fascinated people) and am a genuinly happy person. I'm just completely terrified of not being perfect and that kind of stuff. I don't know… Apparently I have it because I am a "high achiever" but I can't remember the last time I did something well… But therapist people have told me all I can really do is tell myself every night what good things I've done. It's getting a lot better, because I can sometimes think of things that I do well. Like acting. I've never been able to tell myself that I'm good at it, but I was able to recently.
But I recently discovered that not everyone's colors have personalities, so I'm psyched to find out that I have synesthesia, which is cool.
Yeah, I can't vote for FIVE YEARS but I can vote in the 2020 election, which is good because I have the cutoff on my side for once.
I'm doing a mix of Algebra 2 and Trig and geometry, since my math class combines everything and I already taught myself some calculus (oops skipped ahead).
But again with Imposters, it's funny (sincerely) because if I ever tell people, they'll ask me why I'm not depressed or whatever and I'll simply reply that I don't need to have acomplishments to make me happy. I'm not an egotystical maniac.
That's when people run away.
Fun.
But it frustrates me how little people care about the government and what's wrong. 20% of Trump supporters say the end of slavery was a BAD thing???? That stresses me out. And I'm super stressed about everyone else because our president is going to get us into war and mess up everything.
AND NOBODY CARES.
Stupid.
I can just see our world becoming a Hunger Games type dystopian world from a fiction book….
*shivers
I care, S.E. And I will be voting this year for the candidate I think will be the best president and representative of our country to people all around the world, the one who will make the best decisions. And my friends will, too.
Ruby M.ParticipantMuch of your life, you've taken doing a good job for granted, right? And now it's challening to do a good job. Yet you're already doing Algebra II, trig, and some calculus. You're probably 11-13 years old, and that is a ridculously high schievement in it of itself. I am currently working as a tutor in an Algebra II class with high school seniors that are having trouble with the course and wish to pass this year so they can graduate. They are not stupid people, by any means. They have hopes and dreams and wishes of their own and have great plans to succeed in the future. I wish them all luck. You're probably not even a freshman yet, and look! Your math skill is higher than theirs. You're not a perfect human being, but no one is. It's impossible to achieve perfection completely. I'm sorry that you have these self-doubting thoughts, but please, please do your best to remember how much you are able to do. You are able to get up in the morning. You are able to feed yourself. You are able to use your intelligent mind to learn all sorts of wonderful things. You are doing wonderfully, S.E. Keep up the good work.
-
S.E.ParticipantThanks! I really appreciate the encouragement. Yeah, I'm 13. I think everyone knows that by now. I don't know. Watching the prequels for Star Wars is causing me to die of laughter while typing this is killing me.
Booksy OwlyParticipantHey Ruby! I don't suppose you know me… I was here for a while before you left, but I wasn't very well known (yeah, I'm still not), so I don't expect that you'd remember me. Too bad, that. Ah. well. Let us be introduced?
I'm booksy, I love reading classic novels. And grammar. And Shakespeare. And… that's pretty much it. I'm kind of boring. Nice of you to drop by here!
P.S. One of my friends calls everybody she knows "child." She once called her maths teacher "child", as in "Yes, child." I believe the teacher was quite agravated. You should meet her (the friend, not the maths teacher).
-
Ruby M.ParticipantHi, Booksy! I remember you pretty well.
Which classics are your favorites? Please help me with grammar. My own sense has gone down the drain. Which Shakespeares are your favorites?
Are you British or Canadian, by any chance? Maths isn't an American term, so I'm wondering in what country you live in. It's great to have people outside the US on the CB!
-
Booksy OwlyParticipantSorry I haven't replied for so long… I've been really busy. Sorry.
I'm so glad you remember me! Yay! I didn't think you would.
I love anything by Jane Austen, Anne of green Gables, Betsy Tacy, Jane Eyre, Little Women, and more and more that I just can't name. Shakespeare… I love Commedy of Errors, and Twelth Night is a fun one.
No, I'm not Brittish, but I read so many books by English authors, I might as well be. I wish I was. I love England!
What have you been doing in these past few months? Have you read any interesting books?
-
-
-
The NovelistParticipantThe Secret Forest@Ruby: Lol thanks! I'm not sure what topic you're talking about, but I have a feeling it's the AE thread. I have a slight habit of trying to take over a story, even if it's multi-player >.< It's probably because I just finished writing a 40k-word novel, and now I'm working on trying to get it published.
Other than that my life is kinda blah (my parents are exetremely over-protective), but even so, I do like adventures and nature O.o
-
Horse Spirit GirlParticipant14
Hey, Ruby. You might not remember me, but I remember you. How's living on planet Earth, school, activities, etc? I think I noticed somewhere on this thread that you said you play soccer and are a defender, *virtual high five* I'm also a defender. I've been playing soccer for eight years now, how about you?Some facts about me, not that I'm that interesting: Lately I've been really busy with all my school work, I homeschool. I've also been dancing for nine years, tap, ballet, jazz, and contemporary. I horseback ride, too. I act, sing, make music, and compose songs. I have an audition for the play Our Town coming up in a couple weeks. I'm auditioning for the part of the Stage Manager. I'm such a big Potterhead. I think that's it about me… I'll probably hit submit then I'll say "Oh, I forgot…"I've got to go eat my dinner.Goodbye for now,HSG-
Ruby M.ParticipantI remember seeing you, but I can't remember much of what you said, sorry. Living and school and activites aren't the greatest, but such is life. I'm only a defender in PE soccer. Soccer's very fun, but I'm not very good at sports because I have really bad coordination. I do like jujutsu, I'm not good at that either! I wish people could be good at what they like. If I was good at it, I'd definitely play soccer. It's one of my favorite sports. Eight years of playing is really impressive. Have you won some awards for it?
Everyone is interesting in one way or another. And all that dancing is really cool! (there's another thing I like that I'm bad at) Do you own your horse or do you ride a borrowed horse from a stable? That may not be the correct term, but that goes to show how little I know about horses.
Hmm. I had to google Our Town, but it looks great. Good luck! Which HP book is your favorite and which non HP book is your favorite?
-
Horse Spirit GirlParticipant14
That's totally okay, Ruby M.
My favorite HP book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I really like The Hobbit, too.
That's so cool that you like jujutsu. Yeah, I have won some awards for it. Last year and the year before my team made it to the final playoffs. The year before last we won, last year we got second. We also in all around rankings last year were number one. That was exciting!
I don't own a horse, I ride a Morgan horse named Brody at my stable.
Thanks, I'm really excited for the audition!
~HSG
-
Ruby M.ParticipantGoblet is good. I myself am partial to Half-Blood Prince. The Hobbit is very awesome as well. All of Tolkien's works are great- LotR and Simarillion included.
Great job on your team's rank! About horses… Morgans are a breed of horse, not a color, right…? I think they make good farm horses, but I'm not sure. Oh Great Horse Spirit Girl, Master of all things Horse, I summon thee and beg thee to explain how this works to your humble Ruby.
-
-
Booksy OwlyParticipantOh! I love Our Town! Good luck!
-
-
-
Ruby M.ParticipantIt was on a separate website. Some CBers have ways of contacting one another outside the main site. We got to be very adult and do TAXES.
That's very impressive. Where are you getting it published and what is it about?
-
-
SomebodyParticipantWho cares
Various placesWell let's see…
I have been converted into squealing, shipping, fanfiction-writing, fanart-drawing, Vocaloid-song-listening-to, Creepypasta-reading, Slenderseries-watching, fansong-writing fandom trash. I have yu to thank for the Vocaloid part. Thanks a lot!!! WHY DOID YOU HAVE TO TELL ME ABOUT THE EVILLIOUS CHRONICLES, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU YOURSELF AREN'T THAT MUCH OF A VOCALOID FAN?! NOW I'M IN TOO DEEP!!!
(Oh and BTW, I noticed a reference to Flames of the Yellow Phosphorous when I was rereading an old ski lodge. See what I mean??)-
Ruby M.ParticipantShhh… don't say it was my fault, Somebody, please! I don't like Vocaloid at all, to be honest, and I'm hardly interested in EC anymore at all. Still, I'm ocasionally on the wiki because I need to update the front page (which I haven't in two weeks, whoops) so you can see me there if you're really desperate to fangirl at someone.
I have no recollection of any Flames of the Yellow Phosphorus mention. When did that happen?
