Sydney~"Where did you see the sheriff's men last?" Indigo whispers to Joan, holding a corner of our "Dark Beast"- four deer hides bound together with string and a couple clips."There's a clearing up here," she gestures ahead."Alright…would that tree be good?""That looks good."We catch a glimpse of one of the sheriff's lackeys as we creep up to the tree.Indigo, Joan, Brookeira, Danie, and I are "performing." The others are farther ahead, waiting for the sheriff's men to be distracted. They'll go into town first, just in case we don't have enough time to get through.Silently, Indigo and Danie drape the "Beast" over a branch about five and a half feet above the ground. "Ready?" Danie mouths. We all nod. Joan and I each grab a side and raise them, moving them like hulking arms. Danie and Indigo keep the "body" straight. Brookeira howls. I was expecting some sort of wolf howl, but instead she gives a keening wail that would definitely scare me if I heard it in the forest at night. I raise the "arm" in what I hope is a threatening way."What was that?" The man says, whipping around. Seeing the "beast" in the dark, an expression of terror appears on his face for a split second before he veils his fear with courage."Begone, beast!" He shouts, taking out a sword.Brookeira howls again. Another guard walks into the clearing."What's going on?" he asks.The first guard points. "There's a bear, or something." His voice shakes slightly."That didn't sound like a-" The second guard sees the "Beast" and the fear appears on his face, too. "What is that?"-
DanieParticipantThank goodness Brookeira was howling loudly. I couldn't stop snickering.
The two guards slowly back up. "Do… Do you think it's that Dark Beast everyone always talks about?" One of them murmurs to the other.
"I'm not staying to find ou–Wait," The first one gets closer to the Dark Beast. I slowly take out my axe and get ready. He gets closer.
"It's just a deer hide!" He pulls it off of us. "Wha-"
I push him over, and aim my battle axe at the guard. The second one's eyes widen.
"IT'S THEM! THEY'RE HERE!"
"Shoot," I murmur under my breath. "Get ready folks!" I knock the guard out and quickly tie him to the tree. Syndey shoots at the second guard's arm, who winces in pain and runs for the others.
"We need to distract them so that the other's can find Daisy!" Indigo urges, shealthing her sword. I nod.
The others get out their weapons. We hear the sounds of multiple footsteps.

Quickly, I pulled out my sword. Everyone was fighting around me. I hoped no one got hurt, we already had one casualty what with Elmodaisy gone.
I gasped. "Watch out Cho!" One of the sheriff's guys was creeping from behind her. Quickly, I ran up to catch him before he could hurt her. Strange how this man had a hood over his head, unlike all the other men. He was short for his size too. Turning around, the man saw me before I could reach him, and knocked my sword out of my hand. He held no weapon, so we faught each other hand to hand combat.
I admit, he was a little better than me at fighting. Nonetheless, I tried my hardest to beat him. "Oof!" I was hit in the stomach, and fell, with the man pinning me down.
"Joan B. of Arc." He snickered. "We've been expecting you and your friends for a long time now."
"Oh yeah?" I retorted. "Well, we've been expecting you too." Reaching into one of my boots, I grabbed one of my daggers, while rolling over him, making him the one who was pinned down now.
"Where is Elmodaisy?" I growled.
"I'll never tell you, and you can't make me!"
"Oh, I'm sure that we have ways." I told him. A scream shouted from behind me, as I looked behind. Who did the scream belong to? Cho? SydneySong? Danie? Catching me off guard, the man rolled over me until we reached the edge of a cliff.
"Now who has ways?" He grinned and held a dagger over my heart.
"Whatever you do, do it quick." I spat at him. "I won't tell you anything, so you better kill me, so that the pain will be quick. Then you'll see just how black your heart is."
The man grinned eerily. I could see his teeth through the darkness of his hood. "That can be arranged." Raising the dagger high, he brought it down with so much force, I could feel the wind whipping. I closed my eyes, knowing that the pain would indeed be quick.
Next thing I heard was a crack. I opened my eyes, and looked around. There stood Cho, with a long branch in her hand, and the man unconcious.
Cho smiled and held out her hand to help me up. "We can't lose you today Joan."
I smiled back. "Thanks." Looking at the man who had tried to kill me a few moments earlier, I gasped. His hood was off, and I could finally see his entire face. He looked about my age, only 15, maybe 14 1/2. If he wasn't one of sheriff's man, I could actually grow to like him. To bad he chose the wrong side.
"What should we do with him?" Cho asked.
I looked back. "Leave him. Perhaps someday he can learn to choose our side over his own."
Cho nodded. "Ok. Sounds good." Walking slowly with Cho back to the others, I stumbled.
"Joan? Are you ok?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just-" I reached down to my side, and pulled up a red hand. Apparently, the man's dagger had left it's mark. The last thing I heard was Cho's voice calling my name before I blacked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, I was thinking that this "man" I met could be important. Perhaps Sheriff's men are recruiting boys ages 12 and up? I don't know. Just an idea.
HelmsleySydney~I stand at the back of the clearing, aiming my bow wherever it seems most needed. I'm no good with a blade, so I usually don't get too close. I can do much more damage from farther away.I'm aiming at a second man who has just beset Danie when I hear a rustle behind me. I whip around and find a man looking way too delighted for someone who was about to kill me. I back up a few steps, reaching into my boot. I have a dagger tucked in there, just in case. I brandish the blade, hoping he doesn't realize how inexperienced I am with it. Behind me, I hear Cho shout Joan's name. Making a split-second decision, I pivot and sprint in the other direction. The man's laugh makes me grit my teeth, but I keep going. I quickly look around, taking stock. Not everyone is here- I hope the missing people have gone to find Elmodaisy. Cho is kneeling next to Joan, whose eyes are closed. Her hand looks covered in blood, but I know that wounds always look worse when they're bleeding. Hopefully it's not bad."What happened?" I crouch next to Cho."He," she points to a form on the ground few yards away, "tried to stab her.""Do you want me to-" I catch one of the sheriff's men making his way towards us and draw an arrow. "Do you want me to take her back to where we were camped?""Are you sure?""She can't stay here. We have some supplies back there." I let the arrow fly. The man dodged, and it whistled past his ear."Okay," Cho says, "Go."Joan takes that opportune moment to flutter her eyelids, then wake up completely. "What…""Nothing fatal, I hope?" I give her a rueful smile."Don't think so…""Then we should get going." I help Joan up and walk with her back to camp. We have a few bandages there, and clean water. Hopefully those will suffice for now. -
