AllieParticipantImogene~
My parents drop me off with sad smiles. I'm going to miss them. I look around, and see a wave of people heading to what looks like an admiistration building. I follow them, getting in line. When I finally arrive at the front, the lady asks me, "Name?" "Imogene. Imogene Dallas." I reply. "Alrighty, here's your dorm number!" she says. I look at the paper. Room 10698. I decide that I have time, so instead of trying to find the dorm, I try to find some friends. I see a girl standing all alone, so I walk over. "Hi! My name's Imogene. What's yours?" "Samara." she replies. "Well… Uh… Do you know where room 10698 is?" I ask. "No, but I'm looking for my room too. I can help you find yours, if you want."
***
After about 10 minutes of looking, I find my room. We say our goodbyes, and I walk in. My roomate isn't here yet, so I start unpacking on the left side of the room. I've just finished putting my clothes in the closet when I hear the door open.
My roomate is here.

BluebirdParticipant(This is great so far! Happy Holidays everyone, by the way!)
Also, question @Allie– This is set in the present day, right? Not in a fantasy world? Also, I wrote this so that Imogene and Russell already know each other. If that's not okay with you then ignore this.
~~~
Russell often spent mornings tinkering with things in the garage- one, to escape the chaos of a single mother trying to get three kids under 10 ready for the day, and two, because he basically woke up looking like a model- getting ready didn't take long. However, today had been a little different. His mother had woken up so sick to her stomach that she couldn't get out of bed, so it was his responsibility to get Natalie, Trevor, and Leo ready, and also somehow find a ride to Ivermara Academy. At times like this, teleportation could come in handy.
While Nat and Trevor bickered and baby Leo was in the process of getting food literally everywhere but his mouth, Russell dialed the number of his mom's friend. "Hello, Mrs. Dallas?" He tried to say over his sister's string of cuss words. "I was wondering if…" Russell explained his predicament, asking if he could go along with Imogene to Ivermara. "Alright, thanks!" He said after a while, fist-pumping. Soon, he would be far, far away from the mess he called his family.
Shooing his little siblings out to the bus stop, Russell took one last look in the mirror, thinking that not many people other than he could pull off the ugly uniforms. He could hear his mother hacking up a lung from the back bedroom (which wasn't strange, you could hear everything through the thin walls), so he quickly teleported to the kitchen, filled up a glass of water, and went to give it to her. "Bye, mom," He gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "Love you!"
~~~
Russell slept almost the whole ride to Ivermara. He and Imogene talked a little bit- sometimes it was hard to get her to stop talking- but eventually they pulled up at the academy. He stepped out, stretched his muscles, and grabbed his bag out of the trunk. "Thank you again, Mrs. Dallas," He said, flashing a genuine smile. Then he turned and made his way toward a group of students.
"We're headed towards the school gates." He heard one of them say. Russell didn't necessarily want to be stuck behind a crowd of giggling teenagers fawning over Mr. Perfect, so he shouted "Coming through!" Not caring that he smacked right into the boy himself.
"Watch where you're going." Russell said, noticing now that this guy was over a foot taller than him.
"I'm fairly certain you're the one who hit me." The boy replied. Russell crossed his arms. “And who are you?”
“Keiran. You can call me Key.” he said. Russell didn't break eye contact, even though it felt like he was facing a giant. "I'm Russell. Russell Broadwaters."
“Pleased to meet you, Russel.” Keiran said. Russell could barely refrain from rolling his eyes. “You’re still in my way, Keiran.”
“That I am.” Keiran said, not moving an inch. Russell steeled his gaze again. Despite the height difference, he wouldn't back away from a fight if it came to it. “Come on, move.” demanded Russell. Keiran shrugged. “Alright. I can move.”
With that, the boy grabbed Russell's hand and spun him around, mock-bowing when he was done. Russell looked at him with disgust, shaking off his hand. "I call that one a swing dance." Keiran said, turning and walking away.
Russell looked at one of the girls, like, can you believe this guy? Looking at Keiran sauntering away, he rolled his eyes again. He had a feeling it wouldn't be the last he'd see of him.

@BluebirdParticipantAllie
Yes, this is present day.

BluebirdParticipantMara~
Mara heard the boy flirting with Elle as she walked towards the place where she'd get her dorm room number, giggling a little bit at her friend from out of earshot. It was foolish, but a little part of her still hoped she'd get to room with Elle. If anything, at least have a few classes with her.
She opened the door, not noticing the woman at the desk until she said, "I suppose you're here for your dorm number?"
Mara nodded, smiling. "Yes, ma'am." The woman's face didn't change as she sifted through papers, finally finding a key and a number. "Here you are."
She grinned, trying not to let the unnerving gaze of the woman get to her. "Thank you!"
As she walked out, she glanced at the paper- Dorm 6110, it said. She had no clue where to go. Making her way back toward the group, she saw a short boy being whisked around by the one who was flirting with Elle. She passed them by. Finally, after what seemed an eternity later, she found Dorm 6110, unlocked the door, and collapsed on the bottom bunk.
Rolling over and off the bed, Mara started to unpack her bag. As she worked, she slipped into a daydream, singing quietly. As she stuffed a pair of socks into a drawer, she heard something say "She has a pretty voice."
Mara turned, reognizing that it was a mouse. She laughed and then repeated in it's language, "Thank you!"
She heard a frightened squeak. "Wait, I'm not going to hurt you!" She waited, crouching on the floor by her bed. After a few seconds, two little grey mice timidly stepped out from under the bed.
"How can you talk to us?" One of the mice, with a knick in it's tail, asked. Mara smiled. "Well, this is a magic acadamy, isn't it?"
They took a few steps closer. "I never thought I'd ever get to talk to a human!" The second mouse said. Mara noticed that she was lighter that the other. She smiled. "Are you guys hungry?"
With that, she pulled out a granola bar she'd forgotten to eat on the way, continuing to talk to the mice. It wasn't for a while that she noticed her roomate standing in the doorway.

Asani ~
Warmth
and light beginning to creep up my shoulder arouses me from a deep sleep. I
awaken easily, the sun calling me to my feet. I grab for a brush on my bedside
table. It isn’t there, so I head into the bathroom and find it on the counter.
I run it through my stiff hair, reveling in the soothing feeling of the brush
on my neck. I look into the mirror, at my firey red hair, at my smile. It’s
going to be a good day. I can just feel it.** *** **
The
car comes to a stop as asphalt turns to grass.
I slide across the back seat and open the car door. Mum and dad come
around to the trunk, too. Dad lifts it open and grabs one of the duffel bags; I
grab the other.“Thanks,
Dad,” I say.“This
thing ways a hundred pounds! How’re you gonna carry both of these?!” he
exasperates, slight smiling.“Oh,
Aza, I can’t believe it! You’re going to Ivemara
Acadamey! My little flame, all grown up!” Mum’s radiating light all around
her; her smile so sunny, her hair as golden as the dawn. Even her accent is blindingly bright.“Dad,
I’ll be fine.” I take the second duffel bag and hoist them both over my
shoulders. “Mum, I’ll be fine. Really, I’ll be fine.”After
a moment, I hug my mum and stand on tiptoes to hug my dad.“I
love you guys. I’ll miss you. But trust me, I’m going to have so much fun!”“I
know,” my dad says.“I’ll
miss you,” says mum.“I
love you! I’ll miss you, too. Bye!” I reply with a wave, and I begin to head
toward the white gates open wide, filled with bustling bodies.“Bye,
Asani!!” they both wave at me as I walk off.I
walk through the gates, passing by all sorts of different people. I see a few
girls in a cluster giggling as some white-haired dude walks over.Girls. Is every weirdo a love interest to
them?I
walk past and find a middle-aged woman with a neat brown bun operating what
looks like a ticket booth.“Excuse
me, how do I find out which room I’ve been assigned?” I ask the lady.“Just
give me your name,” she replies, “and I’ll give you your number and key.”“Oh,
okay,” I say. “Lerula. Asani Lerula.”“Great!”
she answers. “Your room number is on this slip of paper here, and here is your
key.”“Thanks,”
I reply. I glance down at the small, white slip of paper. “10698,” it reads. I
flip it over. On the other side, it says “Roserea Lodging – Level 5.”I
notice that there is a big plastic bin hanging off the ticket booth filled with
maps. I take one, and in a matter of minutes, I have found my way into Roserea
Lodging and up the elevator.“Ding!”
The
elevator halts, steadying itself. The doors then open, and I walk out into the
hallway, along with a couple other people out of the mass that filled the
elevator. I walk down the row of doors… 10690, 10691, 10692… and stop in front
of 10698. I smile, breathing in. New school, new friends, new life… a room all
to myself… somewhere with people who know how to teach me about fire, not sun,
not light, not boring human academics, but fire. I take out my bronze-colored
key and turn the knob, pushing the door open.I
start. A spark pops at my fingertips. There is another girl in my room.Before
I have any time to think about what she is doing in my room, she screams. I
caught the corner of a bed on fire.My
first thought is, Oh gosh. What a great
way to start my new life, before I am smothered in water. I fall to the ground.“Oh
my gosh, are you OK?” the blonde girl asks frantically.I immediately know what her magical
ability is. I can see it dripping from her fingertips.“Uhh,
yeah. Um, may I ask, why are you in my room?” I say, a bit irritably. I hate
being covered in water.“Oh!
You didn’t know? Sweetheart, I’m
you’re roommate!” she bubbles.Yippee. I think again. What a great way to start my new life.

Sorry, you guys, my writing has been a little rustly lately. And Allie, sorry if I controlled your character too much. You can fix that part if you don't like it.
-
AllieParticipantI walk out of the closet to see the corner of a bed on fire. I scream and hold out my hand as water comes out of my fingertips. I have horrible aim, though, and end up not only extinguishing the flame, but getting my roomate wet. I cringe, and think, What a way to make a first impression. But then I realize that the girl that I'll be spending the next few months with is soaked because of me. "Oh my gosh, are you okay?!" I ask. "Uhh, yeah. Um, may I ask, why are you in my room?" she asks me, sounding annoyed. "Oh! You didn't know? Sweetheart, I'm your roomate!" I say. "What? I thought we got rooms all to ourselves!" she said. "No, we have to share. My name's Imogene Dallas, and as you can see, I control water." "Yep. I'm Asani Lerula, and I control fire." Water and fire. Complete opposites. Why, of all the people, did I have to get matched up with her? I've already made a horrible impression, so I decide to try and make amends. I will have to spend the next few yeas of my life with her, anyways. "I'm really sorry about that. I don't really have the best aim." I say. "Do you want to get lunch or something?" "No, I have to unpack. You can go, though." Asani said crisply. "See you later." "See you."

BrookeiraParticipantKeiran-
Your glasses.
Keiran mechanically followed the procession, running a hand through his hair. People turned to look at him; he stared ahead, distant. Distantly he heard girls chittering, whispers about him.
He was glad his hands were in his pockets. They were shaking.
Your mother died in childbirth, Keiran.
Was she sick?
No. She died when you opened your eyes.
Keiran smiled at a girl as she passed. She laughed and waved. They would be his friends. The girls would give him status. He needed that. Needed fame and glory. Needed their respect, his father’s.
They won’t like me, Dad.
You’re just trying to get out of-
Keiran cleared his head and continued walking. Carefully, subtly, he reached under his lenses and touched a hand to his eyes.
If one could even call them eyes.
The room he entered was medieval, and just the way he liked it: full of room for decorating. He spread a galaxy-patterened blanket over his cot and stretched, rolling his neck.
”Hello.”
Keiran turned on one heel and spread his arms. “Welcome to casa Astrix.”
It was that “Asher” boy, standing in the doorway with a scowl on his face. Keiran looked him up and down.
”It’s my room, too.” The boy said. Keiran huffed and folded his arms. This boy was being very uncooperative, converstaionally.
”I like the outfit.” Keiran said. “Very dark. Reminds me of space.”
”Okay, I have to ask. What’s the deal with space?”
Keiran smiled at the question. “I make little energy-stars. Also little wormholes, but those are just for storage.”
Asher nodded. “I think I see why we’re rooming together. I control dark matter.”
Keiran smiled. “Neat. Sounds useful.”
Asher shrugged. He strode over to his side of the room as Keiran began to unpack and-
“Ow!” Keiran swore as his hand scratched on a jagged piece of metal, poking out of the wall of the room. It looked as though someone had shoved a razor in between the rocks. Keiran felt quick tears blur his vision.
”Are… you alright?” Asher asked, confused.
”Yeah. Fine.”
Keiran wiped under his eyes and withdrew his hand. Asher sucked in a breath.
His tears were pitch black, with speckles of silver like stars scattered about. Keiran quickly flicked it away.
”We’d better head to the dining hall. It’s almost time to eat,” Keiran said.

The Blue GiraffeElle~
I finish unpacking and flump on my bed, exhausted. I guess I should go visit Asher soon.
“So, um, anyone else you know here?” Erin asks.
“My brother, Mara, a few girls, Kieran, now you,” I smile back. “Who do you know here?”
“You. And the guy with the white hair.”
I nod, laughing slightly. “That’s Kieran.”
She snorts and goes back to unpacking.
“I’m going to go see my brother real quick, I’ll hopefully be back though. If not, I’ll meet you when going to the cafeteria,” I announce.
She smiles. “Sure. See you soon.”
I quickly wave and walk down the hall to 6279. Funny. None of the numbers are in any sequence, they’re all just super random.
I lightly tap on it, and Asher opens the door with the most anti social face he’s ever made before.
I lightly laugh. “Relax, it’s just me.”
He opens the door wider for me to come in, and I can see Kieran lying on his bed, bouncing and catching a ball against the wall. Eventually the ball disappears into a small black hole and reappears in another black hole above his face.
“Could you stop that?” Asher exclaims. “The noise is going to make me implode the ball. Don’t think I’m joking.”
Kieran rolls his eyes. “C’mon, now that she’s here, can we go eat?”
Ash shrugs and starts walking out the door. I follow suite, with Kieran on my tail.
“So what can you do?” Kieran asks.
I ignore his question when I see Mara and her roommate. I greet them both with a smile, and we all head down to the cafe in a group. Erin joins us too, and gets aquatinted with my brother. I can tell he’s trying to be a bit more social than usual, although his attempts are small.
“You didn’t answer my question,” Key declares, nudging my shoulder to get my attention.
“You’ll find out soon,” I reply.
“No, just tell me now,” he says. “Why keep it so secretive? Is it dangerous?”
“Depends,” I reply. “It only affects the people I want it to effect, unless it’s large and off-scale, then it will affect everyone.”
“What is it?” he asks.
I groan at his pestering and we stop walking for a moment. I create a simple transparent bubble with a blue tint in front of us, and he smirks as he uses his finger to push it towards me. As soon as I touch the bubble, it turns into shards of glass that rush straight for Key, although it won’t harm him.
“Looks like you had an illusion,” I say. “Maybe you should see the school nurse.”
“Oh okay.”
I laugh as we continue to walk and eventually reach the cafeteria.

DanieParticipantSariel stared at the girl crouched in front of her, who she assumed was able to understand mice and… talk to mice. While definitely not the strangest thing she has seen, it still unnerved her.
"What are they saying?" Sariel said the first thing that came to mind. In response, she quickly got up, smiling sheepishly.
"Oh! Hi, sorry, uh… I was just…" The girl looked down in embarrassment. "I'm able to speak to mice. Or, actually, I can speak any language."
"Cool," Sariel looked back at the mice, but they had already left in fear. "I'm Sariel."
"Oh, I'm Samara, but please just call me Mara," She sat back on the bed, looking a bit more relaxed. "If you don't mind me asking, what your power?"
"Memories," Mara gave her a look, as if wanting elaboration, but none was given. "Anyways, It's almost lunchtime, let's get some food."
"Uh, okay!" They walked through the wooden door and into the hallway. Both remained quiet and a bit awkward.
"Elle!" Samara raced down the hallway to greet who she assumed is her friend. She then noticed the girl next to her. "And this is…?"
"I'm Erin," The girl crossed her arms a bit, staring at Sariel and Mara surly.
"Who're you?" Sariel turned her attention to one of the boys in the group. He looked startled by the question and started to mumble his response.
"He's Asher, my brother," Elle laughed exasperatedly. Sariel nodded and gave a short glance at the other boy, Key. She curtly nodded at him and tried to make sure that would be the most conversation they would have this afternoon.
* * *
Sorry, not really moving the story along. Also, I know Allie just posted but I haven't been able to post so if this conflicts I'm sorry! (There's seriously a lot of people in this rp and I guess I'm not used to it.)
-
AspenParticipant@Pink Panther, I think you kinda hinted at a possible ship for Erin and Asher in one of your posts. Whaddaya think? I think it could be really funny because they're such opposites.
Erin~
The other students seem nice. I think the guy called Asher looked at me a little longer than normal…. Eh, probably nothing. It looks like I got lucky on a roommate, Elle is really nice. I've never had a friend before, but she makes me feel like I belong. Belonging. It feels new. And different. But the best different I've ever felt.
Back home… (Well, was it ever really home?) Back at my old house, no one… cared.
Mum and Dad… my foster mum and dad, were nice enough, but there was never any real warmth. They were good to me… as long as I didn't make any "scenes" with my powers, or stay out late with friends… not that I had any, of course.
To be honest, I didn't really go out of the house much, except to run. Running always makes me feel better, especially in late fall and winter, when the cold air whisking sharply through your lungs makes you feel so alive, so exhilarated, expecially at night with the full winter moon glowing silver-white overhead….
"So what's your power, Erin?" Asher asks. I jump. "Oh, uh, snow, ice, frost… that stuff." I mumble, my face warming slightly. Why am I so terrible with social stuff? "Cool." he returns. "Um… thanks." I mutter back, still struggling to act like a NORMAL HUMAN BEING IN A SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT. Argh!
"If you don't mind, could we see?" Sariel asks curiously. "Oh, sure." I say quietly, embarrassed. I stretch out my fingers, concentrating, thinking of frosty winter nights, running through the snow… a curl of frosty wind and snowflakes with a few tiny ice crystals swirls up from my palm, and I whisk it around in a quick swirl before flicking it away to melt somewhere.
"Cool." Asher compliments. "Thanks." I mumble surlily. Somehow, no one else seems to mind my terrible, awkward, social skills. And it's making me feel way better than I have for years, even.~
Now I'm feeling warm and fuzzy… I love shy, surly, orphan-type characters so much… Azkiel says pfyw. Poofy you? No thanks, you crazy fox… *WNGD FOXX.* Fine. You crazy WINGED FOX. Happy? *Yess. *smirks.*
-
PinkPantherParticipant@Aspen, I’m gonna sound like a real jerk, but I didn’t mean to hint anything. I’m so sorry. Like I explained to Brookeira, Asher is sociopathic and usually unable to have crushes. I might change it later on, but I still have to see…what if your charrie had a crush on him, but he turned her down, explaining his situation, and they end up being good friends? Just some side drama, and it might make for good dialogue.
~~~~~~~~
Asher~
As we sit at the tables, eating some good old school food, I use a bit of matter to push down a strand of Elle’s hair that was waving around from her perfect French braid that was really bothering my OCD side.
She side glances at me before going back to talk to Mara. Elle always had Mara over at the house all the time, and I didn’t mind her that much. She also got to know me, and I guess I could consider her my friend.
“I saw that,” Kieran whispers.
I roll my eyes. “That wasn’t bothering anyone else?”
Kieran lets out a hearty laugh, catching the glances of others.
“Pipe down, will ya?” I hiss.
“You know Ash,” he starts. “You’re a real funny guy. Ever since I met you, you can’t help the sarcasm escape your antisocial lips.”
I smirk. “I also can’t help the dark matter escape from my fingertips, so I would shut up if I were you.”
Kieran pauses and then laughs again, and I can’t help but let a genuine smile escape. Maybe this dude isn’t so bad after all.
“Attention students,” an official says from the indoor balcony in the cafe. “After this is an hour or two of a free period before we proceed for outdoor activities. Please enjoy the rest of your lunch before the free period, and make sure to use that period wisely.”
“Jaxon, our older brother, said that today’s easy because it’s all of our first times here. Usually the real classes start tomorrow,” Elle announces to the rest of us.
Key nods. “I didn’t know you guys had an older brother.”
“Yep,” I say sharply. While Key raises an eyebrow, Elle and Mara and all them go back to talking in their own groups.
“What was that?” Key asks.
“Nothing,” I reply. “He’s just the person Elle and I were supposed to look up to. But he isn’t as great as everyone thinks he is.”
“What are his powers?”
“Super speed,” I reply. “A hot shot, really. I got the darker and more ‘put this person in quarantine’ side of the family.”
“How bout Elle?” he asks.
I glance sideways, but she’s preoccupied.
“Don’t tell anyone, as only me, you, Mara, and her will know at this point. She’s adopted.”
Key’s eyes widen, before he shrugs. “You guys didn’t look alike anyway. But still, how’d your family adopt another person with…abilities?”
“My dad was one of us too,” I reply. “He knew about a girl making a ruckus at an orphanage. Before he made the move to adopt her, she had already terrorised half of the people there.” I laugh. “Wasn’t her fault. Her excuse was that people were ‘seeing things.’ That’s when we knew what her powers were.”
“Yeah, she showed me,” he replies.
I nod. “That’s Elle. So you’re the black hole space guy huh? When I first saw you, you looked like you came straight out of a Star Wars cantina.”
He laughs. “I suppose that’s me. Although I think we’re all discovering more and more about our powers each day.”
I give him a side smile. “Perhaps.”
Suddenly another guy, significantly shorter than Kieran and I, walks up to us and sits right next to Kieran. I peer at him curiously, and Key greets him.
“Hi. Russel,” the guys says, holding out his hand after noticing me.
“Asher,” I reply, hesitantly shaking his hand.
“I’m sick and tired of those idiots over there!” Russel exclaims, continuing his conversation with Key. “Can I just sit here?”
“Sure,” Key shrugs. “Join the crew, and anyone else that’s sick of that side can too. We don’t mind, do we Ash?”
I grimace slightly but nod. More people. Just when I thought I had my people overload for a day.
-
Aspen@PinkPantherParticipantOhh sorry. No that's okay, Erin is like super bad with social stuff and really shy but surly and prickly, like the nature of her powers so I don't think that would really work. It's really fine, though!
PinkPantherParticipantThat’s fine! I was just trying to reach a compromise.
AllieParticipantCan we have, like, all of the charries meet, and form a group? Somehow?
-
StargirlParticipant14
EarthYeah, I was wondering that too. I think that we should, but that will probably naturally happen with a little time. I mean, once they all go to get lunch, or in some of their classes, they'll probably meet.
-
PinkPantherParticipantYeah, I was trying to do that in my last post.
-
-
BluebirdParticipantI'm sorry if I controlled anyone's character too much.
Russell~
Russell had two options- continue to sit sandwiched between a group of incredibly immature ten year old boys and a table of gossipy teens, or move to the table where Keiran was sitting. It wasn't that hard to choose. If he had heard another toilet joke, or a single word about how ugly some girl's nail polish was, he thought he would've screamed.
Beside Keiran, there was a boy with dark hair that introduced himself as Asher. "Can I just sit here?" Russell asked. "Sure, join the crew, and anyone else that's sick of that side, too. We don't mind, do we, Ash?"
The boy nodded. Russell smirked. "Thank goodness." He paused to eat a bite of mac and cheese. "So, I'm guessing you've got galaxy powers or something?" Russell gestured to Key's nebulae sunglasses.
"Energy stars, wormholes… you got it." Keiran replied.
Russell shovelled another bite into his mouth, then, without stopping to chew the whole thing, said, "And I'm gonna take a wild guess… judging from your clothes and your attitude… dark matter?"
Asher scoffed. "Yeah, and what is your power? Shrinking in size? Oh wait, you can't get any smaller."
Russell pretended to be offended, then laughed. "Good one, man." He noticed some other kids sitting down at the table, a girl with fiery red hair, and another with wide blue eyes. "Really though, I can teleport. The only problem is that I sometimes end up on the roof when I sneeze…"
They continued to talk until they finished eating. By that time the table was full of a lot of people who seemed didn't fit in with the other crowds. Russell noticed Asher looking a little uncomfortable, and honestly, he was starting to feel claustrophobic. "Hey, do you guys want to get out of here? Lunch isn't over yet." Russell asked. "I'm sure there's plently to explore in a castle this size…"
-
Aspen@EverybodyParticipantSo… if y'all want our charries to all meet, and this thing had an underlying Hogwarts vibe to it, what if there was a beginning of the year banquet like in Harry Potter that they have every year? Everybody wouldn't quite meet everybody , but it could be a start.
BrookeiraParticipantKeiran-
Keiran stood just as a crackle of magic rippled through the air above his head. A thin golden serpent slithered across the ceiling, delicate and thread-like, and opened its dainty mouth. A message came out in the voice of the Headmistress.
”The following students will proceed to my office at once: Keiran Astrix, Russel Broadwaters, Imogene Dallas, Asher and Elle Dvotoski, Sariel Edner, Samara George, Erin Griffith, and Asani Lerula.”
The snake vanished in a swirl of golden smoke. Keiran cocked an eyebrow. This couldn’t be about his uniform; the kids coming with him were all in their uniforms. Even Russel, who was staring at Keiran with some mixture of smigness and confusion. Well, an Astrix did tend to make people stare.
Keiran stood and rolled his neck. The others followed suit, walking with Keiran down a roughstone corridor. Keiran sent a smirk toward Imogene, Asani, and Erin. Erin rolled her eyes.
”Oh, gods, stop that.” Russel said. Keiran turned to look down.
”Sorry, speak up. Can’t hear you from down there.”
Russel rolled his eyes. They were a clear, warm green.
Keiran’s glasses felt very cold.
The group entered Ms. Stowell’s office. She stood as they entered, giving them a stiff and strained grin.
”Ah, you’re here! Welcome, welcome. You aren’t in trouble.”
The group sat in front of her beastlike mahogany desk. She straightened herself.
”This matter is simply… of great importance.
”As you know, your great-great-grandparents attended this school over a century ago. They were all talented, and had similar abilities. But they wanted more power.”
”What happened?” asked Sariel, tilting her head with wide, unblinking eyes. Keiran suppressed a shiver.
”Your grandparents tried to perform a complex spell. It… failed.”
There was a brief, awkward silence. Stowell cleared her throat.
”Perhaps it’s best if I showed you. Sariel, you were blessed with the gift of memory, correct?”
Sariel nodded, black hair grazing her forehead. The headmistress pulled a vial from the wall.
”Scatter this in the air and concentrate.” Stowell said. Keiran and Russel exchanged a confused look. Sariel simply stood, throwing the dust found in the vial into the air. It flashed indigo in front of Keiran, black for Asher, silver for Sariel, orange for Russel, fawn for Samara, gold for Elle, red for Asani, glittering white for Erin, and deep blue for Imogene. The dust settled on each person in their color. Asani let out a noise of protest and anger. The room faded around them.
Keiran and the others were floating, as specters, in a small room. A woman with green eyes and black hair appeared in the room, burning into existence like a brand in the air. She turned to the door and smiled.
A man entered, face expressionless. “Reese, you didn’t have to teleport. The door was open.”
The woman laughed. “The Broadwaters family always makes a dramatic entrance.”
Broadwaters! The woman was Russel’s great-great grandmother. The man was likely Sariel’s ancestor, judging by the blue eyes and eerie look.
”Am I late?” a woman with pale blonde hair and blushing cheeks entered. Imogene’s great-great. “Hello, Reese and Saren!” She giggled.
“Hello, Izzy!” Reese hugged her. Izzy Dallas had infectious laughter. Soon after, a woman with Erin’s eyes entered with a woman with Asani’s hair tone. Erin’s great-great was named Emily, while Asani’s was called Annika. A kind-eyed woman was Samara’s ancestor, Sarah. Two twins came next: Eldrick and Asaya Dvotoski.
“Wonder where starboy is?” Asaya said, smirking. Dark matter danced at her fingertips.
”Arriving.” said a man as he entered. Keiran’s breath caught. He was the spitting image of his own grandfather, Calvin Astrix.
“Can we start now, cosmo? I have a date.” said Reese Broadwaters. Calvin winced.
Keiran stared at his grandfather. He wasn’t wearing glasses. His grandfather’s eyes were a gorgeous shade of indigo.
So it wasn’t hereditary.
Keiran was just a freak of nature.
The memory became blurred. Sariel was losing control. It sped up. Keiran’s grandfather was shouting, clutching his head. All of their ancestors were. They fell to the ground, writhing, before standing with ghostlike grins on their faces.
”THE FORBIDDEN WILL CLAIM THEIR HOME ONCE MORE.” Calvin said, in a voice that wasn’t his.
The memory vanished.
Doctor Who?ParticipantElle~
“What was that?” I gasp.
The Headmistress curtly nods. “That spell was to protect all the children in this academy from the darkness that is coming. However, it failed, and the summer of that very year, all students who had no family to go to died from the evil force that entered the school.”
“Voldemort level stuff eh?” Asher whispers to me.
I smirk but pay attention to what the Headmistress continues to say. “This year, the administration believes that you students, the descendants, can conjure the same spell to protect this from happening again. The spell is a combo of all your powers, the ancient Inerga spell. Go to the library in your free time, it will be listed there.”
“I already know about it,” I interrupt.
“What?” Headmistress asks.
Suddenly eyes are on me, and I feel my face heat up.
“Er… the spell. I know the riddle for it, at least. Our father used to read it to us before bedtime. Weird, I know, but still.”
“Pray tell,” the Headmistress replies.
I nod, glancing at Asher. “One will erase the thoughts of the known, and one will leave then come back. Two will join, and combine, with dark and light. One will talk in tongues of the old, the other will eternally change the atmosphere. One will cause unchangeable gaps in space and time. The last will be the ultimate sacrifice. All must join to stop the Forbidden from claiming their home.”
“Dad was so stupid,” Ash mutters.
I shoulder him.
“Fascinating,” The Headmistress whispers. “Well, please, come back when you all think you have the spell.”
I give Ash a confused look before we all file out of the office.
“Elle,” Ash says.
I look at him. “I know. My ancestor wasn’t there.”
AspenParticipantYippee, I think I figured out the riddle!!The lines about individuals are for each of the students and I think I know which one goes to which student!
AllieParticipantI know a couple, but I'm not sure about some others. Cool idea with the riddle!
DanieParticipantSariel looked through the memory with exhaustion. This was from long, long ago… She could barely piece together the fragments of memory found in the vial.
Her ancestor was one of the few who looked nearly exactly the same as her. He held the same stare, the same stare people seemed to hate her for. But… the other ancestors didn't seem to hate him.
As the memory continued, it showed more and more ancestors of the people around her. The last was Keiran's, who Sariel noted, did not wear glasses.
Suddenly, however, the memories became… Messed up. They didn't seem to connect to one another, they lost sight, or hearing. Incredibly loud whispers rang in Sariel's ears, and she cried out in pain. The air around her choked her, she couldn't breath. It was like a void. But the voices were still there, calling out to her, telling her to come to them with wide grins she couldn't see. They reached out to her… Something about home, about forbidden…
"Sariel! Sariel!" Someone was shaking her, but this time she was almost positive they were real. Like a blurred picture, she could make out the face of the headmaster. "Sariel, what happened?"
"Y-you guys saw it right? The memory? How far could you go into it?" Sariel frantically pulled herself together, looking urgent.
"After my ancestor arrived the memory became too fast to see," Keiran told her, a look of worry stretched across his face. "The last thing I saw was all these faces telling us…"
"The forbidden with claim their home once more," Asher shivered. The headmaster nodded and began to explain about how the spell was meant to protect the school.
Sariel could barely make out what people where saying. Something about a riddle, a spell… Then she realized everyone was starting to leave. Shaking out the confusion from her mind, she stepped out with the others.
The others chattered lightly in front of her, their strides wide and bright. Sariel, however, stayed in the back, her head foggy and confused.
She didn't like that. At all. That had never happened. Even when people's memories were forgotten, nothing as big as that would occur. It was incredibly freaking painful. And what was worse… She realized that familiar, horrible feeling was starting to take fruit again. She was forgetting some of her memories. And unlike how it usually is, with just one little memory, one already pretty forgetful memory… This felt like more, like something that would happen over time. It scared her to no end.
So with that fact, she did what she felt best: She recited.
"My name is Sariel Edner. I am 16 years old. I control memories. My parents are Maddy Edner and James Edner. I am part of a prophecy to save this school.
My name is Sariel Edner. I am 16 years old. I control memories. My parents are Maddy Edner and James Edner. I am part of a prophecy to save this school."
Over. And Over.
She hoped it would be enough.
* * *
What I'm sort of getting at here is there was something wrong with that memory, and there is now something wrong with Sariel. *wink wonk*
Theory!ParticipantBrookeira1. “One will erase the thoughts of the known" Sariel. She has the power over memory, after all.
2. "One will leave then come back" Russel. He has teleportation!
3 & 4. "Two will join, and combine, with dark and light" Elle and Asher? Elle creates illusions, which would involve bending light; Asher controls dark matter.
ALTERNATIVELY: The two are Imogene and Asani (water is dark, fire is light)
5. "One will talk in tongues of the old" Samara! She speaks many languages.
6. "The other will eternally change the atmosphere" Erin? Erin has cold/ice abilities, so this could make sense. It could also be Asani, who has heat/fire abilities.
7. "One will cause unchangeable gaps in space and time" Keiran. That one's pretty obvious. 🙂
8. "The last will be the ultimate sacrifice" Could be one of them!
NOTE: Elle said "my ancestor wasn't there", so maybe Elle isn't involved in the prophecy itself, or will become evil? IF SO:
1: Sariel
2: Russel
3 & 4: Imogene and Asani
5: Samara
6: Erin
7: Keiran
8: … Asher? :0
