NiteskiiesParticipantHere’s my opinion:
Fireworks should be allowed, but only if
A. You get maybe some sort of license available to the public if they pass a test and show that there responsible.
B. You can not put them off after a certain time in the city where police can enforce the laws
C. The fireworks must be Xft away from any human when they go off
D. There must be X amount of space between your firework and the nearest houses, woods and anything that carries power or electricity.
-
Blackfooted BobcatParticipantThose are very good ideas. I would add limiting the number of fireworks per person (to minimize environmental impact, scared animals, and minimize potential injuries) and you must clean up the trash. And maybe only on certain dates.

GrazaI agree that there should be a test to make sure people know what they're doing. Fireworks shouldn't be happening after midnight, and they should be done in area's where they are not disturbing people who are trying to sleep.
Also, how do we decide to move on to a new topic?

USofAI also have one more thing to add:
Where I live, fireworks AND sparklers set off at home are already illegal. Where we used to live, my dad would set off minor fireworks in our driveway at dusk, and I think that fireworks should be allowed, and I also agree that there should be a class or online course for firework safety. And not past midnight.
Wow! These are some good opinions and facts! Good job expressing what you think is right, everyone!

USofASo..should we choose the next topic?
-
Blackfooted BobcatParticipantYes. Anyone have any ideas?
-
-
NiteskiiesParticipantI have an idea for a new topic: What about discussing the effect of COVID on the whole community and if everything should continue going on or if it should have stopped a while ago? Well, I suppose I’m lucky, I live somewhere where quarantine is technically over!
-
Blackfooted BobcatParticipantWe could always debate what to debate about.
-
Sammy EParticipantOooooooo! An arguing place that isn't really arguing? Sign me up!
If we debate about what we debate about, wouldn't we start debating what we debate about what we debate about?
And what if we debate about what we debate about what we debate about what we debate about, that would get confusing.
I kid, I kid. That's a good idea. 'Debate' doesn't even sound like a real word to me anymore after writing that. XD
I do propose we don't talk about COVID or anything religious or political. Let's try to stick to fun stuff.
I think we should talk about VSCO Girls vs. Self-Perscribed "Psychopaths".
Which one's less annoying?
-
Blackfooted BobcatParticipantWhat's a VSCO Girl and what's a self-described psychopath?
-
Blackfooted BobcatParticipantBy the way, I do think we should debate about some more serious topics, or else I'm going to completely lose interest. I do have a topic idea: Wasps, good or bad? I don't even know if anyone else is still on here.
-
PandaGirlParticipant11
New EnglandI am still here and I think that wasps are a great topic except for one thing, and that is that I just looked it up and there are more than 30,000 kinds of wasps throughout the world. Therefore some are probably good and some are bad. However, I cannot think of another topic so that would probably end up still being fun.

New EnglandBelieve it or not, wasps do more good than harm. They play a vital role in protecting gardens and farm crops by controlling pest populations. They capture and consume insects such as flies, caterpillars and beetle larvae. (This is from global news.)

JoelParticipant10
nowhereWe had a wasp nest in our garrage once. They are anoying to get out. That's why I don't like them.
-
Sammy EverlastParticipantWasps should pay rent for their nests if it's on private property.
Dont ask me how, they just should.

Blackfooted BobcatParticipantdefending waspsWhile most people dislike or even loathe wasps, they actually play an important part in out ecosystem. Their most important role is as a predator, keeping everything in balance. While not to the same extent as bees, wasps are undeniable pollinators; they also eat a lot of garden pests who destroy crops. In fact, wasps are even used as an effective and sustainable version to pesticides! Of course, some people do use poison to kill wasps, but that's not really the wasp's fault, is it? People only rarely intentionally use pesiticides on bees, who also sting*; what reason is there for all of it to be used on wasps*, who have extremely similar downsides and both similar and different benefits? And as for their sting, only about 1-3% of wasps actually sting. (I found a few different estimates.) Of course, wasps are still potentially dangerous, especially should you have a wasp allergy. However, their benefits cannot be logically denied. Pest control and pollination in the home garden; reducing pesticides in commercial farms; keeping the ecosystem in balance; and only 1-3% that sting. I think that wasps should definately get an improvement in their reputation.
*Please note: bees are still completely and brutally mauled by pesticides and I do not mean to say that is not an issue, because it is, and a severe one too. But wasps are also mauled by pesticides. And intentionally!
*Also, I have NO WISH WHATSOEVER for people to start using pesticides on bees. That would be awful. I'm only trying to point out a fundamental flaw in "reasoning", if you can call it that. While it is possible that it seems this way, I have absoloutely no desire to say that bees are not important, as well. THEY ARE. But wasps are too, and they deserve all of the love and conservation of the former.
-
HawthorneParticipantI, as a person who has been stung 9 times (a majority of which have been by wasps), do not dislike wasps, and Blackfooted Bobcat has proven that they have many benefits for our ecosystem.
The main reason I would be against wasps is because they sting, and although bees can sting as well, unlike bees, wasps can sting more than once during an attack because their stingers remain intact. However, a wasp's sting is generally used for defence. If a wasp's hive is threatened, they sting to defend it; if you provoke a wasp, it will try to defend itself. It is rare that a wasp will sting you just because. Also, if you get stung, (unless you're allergic) there are ways to treat it easily without the need of a medical expert.

DoodleGirl Participant13
EarthAgreed. I actually got stung by a wasp 2 days ago, and yes, it hurt, but it wasn't all that bad. I just accidentally stepped near a nest, and the wasp was probably defending it. Although I cannot say that I like wasps, I don't hate them either, because they're just doing what they were meant to do. I don't think people should try to eradicate any animals (unless they're an invasive species) because we need them in the ecosystem. But if a wasp nest is in a place where many people will be and its likely they will get stung, it's okay to kill them. I don't really know that much, though,Blackfooted bobcat is more informed.
