Evergreen wasn't too confusing of a school, in terms of getting from place to place. It was pretty small, and the rooms were arranged so that each subject's classes were near each other. It was a bit awkward, it being my first year here, but not too bad.
I could say "This is my fourth school" in a sober, pitiful voice, and it would be true; however, it wasn't like I move around and am constantly changing schools. I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life.
I went to Sky Elementary for preschool, Smith Elementary for kindergarten through second, then transitioned to Littleton Elementary for third through sixth. I went to Sky only because Smith didn't have preschool, and Littleton because Smith closed. Now I'm here, because Littleton only went up to sixth. At least a lot of the other students are new too; many schools in the city were like Littleton.
This was going to be the first year since I was seven I'd be separated from Auburn. Actually, yesterday, she had thrown a party about that fact. She called it the "My School's No Longer Infested With Audrey" party, complete with cake (made of clay) and a ball dropping like New Year's. She even took paper from the shredder and threw it around like confetti. Our dad brought the party to a grinding halt after that.
I laugh softly, thinking about it, and a passing student gives me a funny look.

This school iss so confusing! All the classes are scattered around- English in one corner, math in another, science on another floor… ugh!
My old school, they had each grade's classes all clustered together. My old old school, we never even moved rooms; the teachers did. Here it's just a madhouse.
Classes are already boring. It's the first day, so we weren't really doing much yet (except in math, who kicked off the year with algebra. On the first day of school.) I get my lunch and sit down at an empty table. I look at the pizza. Yeagh.

Custard SpotHey, good news! I can use the b key now! No more copy and pasting!
By the way, I don't go to school, so sorry if I do something different than it should be.

I walk into my first class, math. I hate math so much, but I want good grades, so I study for it. I sit next to my best friend, Mira. Since I don't need to turn in homework yet (our teacher has us do it at the end as we walk out), I set my homework, upside down, on my desk. Then I just grab it as we walk out. Of course, class is boring. Some unlucky kids fell asleep and are now going to detention later.
Science isn't too bad. English, awful. Soical Studies, ok. Now for lunch. My usual huge group of friends greets me and we get lunch and sit down. November, December, and January is when I make new friends. No one has potenial for it yet. Also, for being my friend. Oh well.
Finally! Computers and art are my favorites! PE is OK. And now the day is over! Time to get to my club! Coding. I love it! I created a whole video game from scratch last month! Every month we do a different project. This month, it's creating a website! We can use it, or save it. I'm not sure what I will do will mine once I'm done. However, I won't tell you what my websites for.

Lunch. I see Laural and her group of friends.
I huff, and then catch myself. At Littleton, Julie Fielding was the "popular" girl, and she… was not the most amazing person ever. Anytime I see Laural, she reminds me of her.
As far as I can tell, though, Laural's a nice person. I kind of wish I was one of that group, if I were completely honest with myself.
I sit down with my friends Maria Jones and Lilian Banks. They're nice enough, but we're not friends friends. Maria and Lilian are best friends; they took pity on me the first day of school and invited me to sit with them. It's just where I've been sitting ever since.
I take out my phone and start texting my friends from Littleton.
Me: Hey guys whats up
Sadie 'Fraidy: Ugh its so boring here
Me: ikr
Me: did u know i have you on here as sadie fraidy
Sadie 'Fraidy: WHAT
Sadie 'Fraidy: WHY
Julie: after your wonderful holiday performance
Sadie 'Fraidy: THAT WAS IN SECOND GRADE
Sadie 'Fraidy: IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANY 7YO
Julie: there was nobody else who got scared of our teacher dressed as santa
Me: lol
Me: actually its because u were really annoyed last year when i called kiki brave 4 doing the ropes course
Sadie 'Fraidy: yeah cuz i did it first
Kiki: shut up guys im in class

I'd been here two months. TWO MONTHS.
I still have made zero friends.
I'm sitting alone at this table still, picking at burnt maybe-pizza, wishing I was back in Pennsylvania with my old friends.
At least I can draw to entertain myself. Right now I'm working on designing a character for a graphic novel I might do someday. Her name's Moriko like mine, and she's basically me except AWESOMER and HAS COOL POWERS.

jinxParticipantany pronounsAidan-
I sigh as I slam my locker closed. Another day suffering. I glare down at my schedule, as if that would change anything. The first bell rings, and I hastily tie my hair up and hurry to class. I make it to my first period with a few minutes to spare.
The art teacher greets me with a curt nod. I reciprocate it.
This is the only bearable class, not least because I can zone out, or just punch clay if I want. I've already sculpted a few things, mostly hands. And pencil drawings! I love the duality of graphite, how I can break a 9H pencil trying to make a dark line, or just rub the tip of a 4B pencil over the paper and immediately have thick, flowy lines of coverage.
I settle into my seat, ignoring the occasional stare. Everybody treats me like some sort of freak, and mybe I am. Or maybe they're just comparing me to the golden boy, my older brother.
Rowan was perfect. He had a stupid girlfriend, who I hated because I really didn't hate her. He had great grades, so different from mine. He played baseball, and he was good at it. He had scholarships to all the colleges he wanted to go to.
And then he snapped.
I glance up. The boy next to me is scribbling a face in his notebook. A girl twirls a pencil between her fingers. A few kids cluster in the other corner, giggling and popping their gum. I huff, quietly, and go grab my half-finished teapot. I'm trying to add the spout, but it's not easy.
"Ten minutes left, guys. Cleanup time." The teacher says. I grab my teapot, finally ready to be glazed, and set it down on its tray. I wash my hands and sponge off my area, then grab my messenger bag (I found it thrifting a few weeks ago, and it was insanely cheap) and swing it over my shoulder.
My boots clomp on the tiles in the hallway. I pass a group of popular girls, hair swishing, and glare at their backs.
I used to be one of them. I wore new clothes, light jeans and tank tops, and kept my hair long and blonde. I giggled with the girls about their crushes–older boys, mostly; one of them kept talking about how cute my brother was–and went to sleepovers every weekend.
A few things happened in quick sucession then. I came out as bi. The friend group dropped me, taking another girl in my place. It was at that point I realized I had nothing left to lose. I had no friends. I felt utterly alone. So I came out as genderfluid, too, and dropped the hair and clothes that, by then, had begun to feel less like a privilege and more like a prison.
And then Rowan left, and what little normalcy my life still had shattered.
Lost in throught, I automatically walk into my second period class, world history. I sigh. This is going to be a very long day.
<And that was Aidan's intro! I mostly wanted to flesh out their backstory a bit, hope it's okay!>

Milly SunstarParticipantPeriwinkle- Thank you so much for letting me join!
Diana-
I close my locker, smiling at it's spray painted cover. Any other kid would have gotten detention, but my last name is like a free pass- anyone related to my brother is practically royalty. Asher Greer, Evergreen Middle School legend. Good at everything-sports, academics, even talking to people. A bit of a rebellion from his little sister is nothing. Plus, anything to brighten this school up a bit, you know?
I close my eyes and breath, only to get hit in the head with a backpack. "Watch it!" I yell, but nobody is listening, as always. I grab my notebook and slide it into my burgundy messenger bag. A pin on my bag matches the slogan written across my locker. Because I said so. A genius phrase, really. How many times do your parents win arguments with it? It's instantly authority-giving. My phone pings. A text from his royal highness, my one and only brother. A smirking emoji. Mm. His signature. But the time is what really catches my eye. I have a minute to get to science. Fast walking, I make my way to my science class. I'm ready for another day of drowning in stress, as the teachers watch me, laughing.
