Golden Lion TamarinParticipantAs it turns out, myself and all of my siblings are neurodivergent! One of my brothers has SID (sensory integration disorder), another has ADHD, and my dad is pretty sure I have Asperger's.
For some reason, sometimes even singing completely on key can be really annoying to me and I usually cover my ears or stiffen my head, idk why…

School, lolOk, so just as a bit of info about "Asperger's"…
It's just autism. Asperger's just basically means "you're autistic, but you're smart," and it's really hurtful to a lot of the community. Not to mention Hans Asperger, whom it's named after, was just… a horrible person. I don't want to say too much, but let it sufice to say that he worked with the Nazis and did nonconcentional testing on people.
Sorry for sort of butting in like this, but it was just annoying me, and I wanted to make sure you had the right information.
-
Sinusoidal ParticipantIn that case, scrap what I said about Asperger's. Both of my parents agree Im 2e and probably autistic.
-
Sinusoidal ParticipantAaaaah
SOMEBODY took their computer leaving this tab open, went back in time, and posted as myself as a reply to An Autistic's comment.

Golden Lion TamarinParticipantI made the Autistic pride flag! I'll put it up on the inside of my bedroom window so that if someone walks by my window outside, they'll see it 🙂
I'm not sure why your photo is loading here. You can try uploading in a different file format. – Admin

JaybellsParticipantLost, somewhereI'm just like… So tired of being neurodivergent sometimes. More accurate to say the people around me are, which I can kinda tell when they get snippy and rude. Like my sister is being really horrible to some people on the spectrum and is utterly unapologetic about it and I'm just dying inside because it's seeping out into taking her frustrations out on me and others and I've been trying for a long time to help her understand our needs but it is just NOT happening and-
I don't know what to do. Apparently every single member of my direct family is a horrible bigot of some sort? And I, as well as my friends/people I relate to am like, the epitome of everything they hate? :' ) Can I secede from this nightmare household?

Somewhere in the starsThat's awful 🙁 I'm so sorry that's happening to you. I don't really have any advice, but I hope it gets better for you and we're always here if you need to vent. You deserve so much better.

anonymousParticipantI kind of feel like I'm attributing every emotional problem I have to my neurodivergence. How am I supposed to work with that and is that ok?
-
The same anonymousParticipantAnd I think I'm blaming myself too much for it; like imposter syndrome.
-
SeadragonParticipantI don't know how qualified I am to advise on this but I think it depends on what the emotional problem is and how much it actually relates to being neurodivergent. For instance if it's something like being angry at certain sounds/smells/tastes/lights and you don't think they'd aggravate a neurotypical person, then that might be something to blame on neurodivergence. But, if it's just an argument, for instance, between you and someone else that's for some sort of mundane reason like what color to paint a shared project (as a random example) then it might be something that hasn't arisen because you are neurodivergent.

Sinusoidal ParticipantHappy autistic pride day!
-
SinusoidalParticipantHow to come out as self-diagnosed autistic without sounding joking, selfish, or offensive to the rest of the autistic community?
-
@SineParticipantit's SterlingI would strongly reccomend pursuing an actual diagnosis before you claim anything. Self-diagnosing isn't really something you can do with autism because unless you're a psychologist, you most likely don't have all the knowledge about it that professionals do. Good luck!
-
@SterlingParticipantit's SineActually, no. My dad is a rabbi, not a therapist or psychologist or psychiatrist, but he does have a master's degree in "transpersonal psychology" (whatever that is) and he agrees that I'm on the spectrum. Also, I have consulted multiple resources about autism that include general symptoms of autism, including a fiction book about autism that includes "journal entries" with autism facts that I can totally relate to (i.e. demand avoidance, anxiety [going to worst-case], meltdowns that are NOT purposeful, etc.). Basically, I have backing up from a master's degree in psychology plus hours upon hours of constant research.
-
SineParticipantOh I completely messed it up I did a quick search on transpersonal psychology it really has nothing to do with neurodiversity so scratch the part about the master's degree because I learned it really doesn't relate to the situation but I still did hours upon hours of research.
-
SinusoidalParticipantAaand it appears you're right, I will get a formal assessment on Friday.
