AmethystParticipantand Origami :)Amethyst
For a while I've been busy watching the landscape, which is remarkably pretty, but the picnic is getting into full swing and I should really be getting to a table. I've brought along some food of my own, of course, as well as some pomegranate juice – I'm dubious as to how it will taste, as I've never tried it before, but "There must always be a first time" is a motto of sorts of mine, so I've decided on it in the end. Most of the tables are fairly full already, but I spot an empty place at the table where Writing is and go over there. Origami has disappeared somewhere; I really have no idea where, as the ways of captcha hedgehogs are usually vague and unpredictable. Writing is talking to Starli, so I set out my food and take a cookie, waiting for Origami to join me. In a moment she does, saying <bwrnh> eagerly, and settles down to eat.
Inkwell Park is amazing – I've been here a couple of times before, usually when I need a quiet place to write solo writes or picturings, but I've never been up on this hill before. The view of Chatterbox City is amazing, and practically all of the Chatterbox is here: captchas fly and scamper and talk excitedly in short words, AEs are talking and flirting, and, of course, CBers are everywhere, and more are still arriving. I hope that no one was planning to sit down here or was sitting here before.

Reuby's AEsParticipant@~Amarrilis~. Would you wanna maybe ship Crawaline and Shyla??? Just a thought.
{Crawaline}
{"Oh uh, no no. It's ok." I say, forcing a smile and walking away. 'Dangit. I was hoping to talk to her more. Nevermind, I'll go talk to Lore.' I thought solemnly. "Hi Lore…What're you doing..". I muttered to the green haired man sitting in front of me. Sitting in the shade next to him, he said #You like her.#. Slowly turning my head away, {Uh…n-no}.
#Yeah. You do. I can tell..#. He laughed ruffling my hair. {Yeah yeah, but she's just so sweet. And don't tell Strawberry her excitment and volume will be astranomicle.}
#Sure sure. Anything for you kid.#
$Strawberry$
$ "Well, it's a bit embarrassing…but…I was…um…modeling for Lore's new clothing line. But you probably don't want to know about that!" I say, waving my hands around. " Annnyyyways. Did you guys bring anything????"$

Hills of SmogAh. This is a bit of a mess. I actually definitely would've been open to that–except…I already shipped Shyla with Firefly. I'm so sorry. and i also apologize for the whole 'shyla abandoning crawaline' thing. Because…uh, I definitely could've handled that wayyy better.
However, do you have any ideas in which Shyla will not break Crawaline's heart? Because I can see she does really like her. And. Well, I was thinking maybe more of a platonic relationship? Since Shyla's already shipped….
-
Reuby@AmarillisParticipantNo. It's ok. I thought Shyla was open to shipping, I was only reading her form. I don't like to read other peoples convos. Even though you wouldn't know, it feels intrusive.
They can just be friends, it's ok.

pangolin + AEsParticipant|Arum|
|Kaspar laughs, and I laugh along with him. There's something about Kaspar that makes him just…so easy to talk to. "|I don't know — chocolate covered blackberries? Those sound pretty good. I gotta try some sometime.|" I smile. "|Oh, I definitely get that — I love trying new stuff too. Life would be so…boring otherwise. Hmm, I don't know about 'weird tastes' but I love spicy foods. Well, anything with a strong flavor. And, um, aside from food, I really like hiking, and archery, and the humanities — I guess that stuff's not too weird, but none of Pangolin's other AEs really share my interests… Anyway, what about you? Do you have any hobbies or notable interests?|"
Pangolin
"No, it's not just you. It is beautiful here. I love the outdoors."
I glance over at Arum — she and Kaspar are sitting at the other end of the picnic blanket, and they're talking about something. I'm glad Arum's found someone to talk to — I was worried they'd have a hard time fitting in with the other AEs, but I guess I was wrong. She and Kaspar seem to be getting along really well. I smile, and turn back to Poinsettia and Stormi. "So, what've you guys been up to lately?"
Barnacle
"YES! Of course I want to do that." I smile at Friendo. "Hey, I heard Writing_in_the_Dark has pasta salad, cookies, and lemonade." I gesture to where Writing's set up all the food he and his AEs brought. "Race you there?"
Fir
"Oh, that's really cool! What sort of cartoons do you watch? And I like drawing too, but I'm not that good…." I shrug, and continue braiding the flower stems together. "I really like photography, and I've been getting into gardening lately. I also really like listening to music. Mostly showtunes. Hamilton, Heathers, SIX, Beetlejuice, In The Heights…. What about you? What kind of music do you listen to?"

>guys we are gonna be late!> I say, snatching Twani out of the air and putting her on my shoulder. I hurry down the road in front of Hawkstar and Rose.
"It was you who made us late," Hawkstar said. "You said we needed to arrive with style."
>well I changed my mind. Everyone might be to busy with each other now! It might be boring>
I rounded a hill and saw at the bottom blankets and snacks laid out over the grassy field. Many AEs and CBers chatted together. My eyes stray to the snacks, and for the moment i forget about friends
>bye! I'm gonna find some yummies!> I take off, leaving Hawkstar and Rose at the top of the hill. I scurry around the food, like a little mouse, Twani flapping over the food in search of treats.
>where be candy?> I wonder.
Rose
I look down at the busy, tree scattered field below. AEs and CBers sat in pairs or groups, or played around on the grass. I couldn't hear, but I expected that it was noisy by the way Hawkstar winced as sound asalted her sensitive ears.
'loud' Hawkstar says, comfirming what I thought.
I walk down the hill, breaking away from Hawkstar, who went to keep an eye on Stacy. She got into trouble often. I go over to an empty maple tree and settle on the ground. I watch everyone, waiting for an opportunity to slip into a conversation, and also watching for lone AEs.

Poinsettia's AEsParticipant\Kaspar\
\|"Do you have any hobbies or notable interests?"| Arum asks me. I pause to consider.\
\"Well, I'm always up for a good debate," I say. "I've been in several debates, and it's… really satisfying. You get to air your opinions and know that everyone's listening, plus you can actually demonstrate how your point of view is correct. Except when you lose the debate, of course," I add wryly. "I also have this fascination with learning about ancient Rome, especially the individual emperors. Um, what else… well, I guess you could say exploring is another of my hobbies. And I've actually done some archery too! I got into it a couple years ago. I guess we have that in common." I wink at her. "Have you ever done mounted archery? Stormi's crazy about it. I've never done it because I'm not so crazy about horses, but maybe I should give it a try. Do you like horses? Or do you have any other favorite animals?"\
Poinsettia
I follow pangolin's gaze as she glances at Arum and Kaspar. The two AEs seem to be having a great conversation, and suddenly I find myself suspecting what might be going on between them, but I don't say anything.
"So, what've you guys been up to lately?" pangolin asks.
"Working on a novel," I say.
"As usual…" Stormi puts in.
"As usual," I agree, laughing. "I finally finished it! I spent like months working on it, holed up in my room… Oh, and I've been getting new clothes for the summer. I needed new jeans and scarves, and shoes for some reason. I did have a pair of ankle boots, but they disappeared. I have no idea why, how, or wherefore. How about you guys?"
-
Chaser & Jay & AEsParticipantFriendo:
Barnacle challenges me to a race to the food Writing brought. I don't say anything; I just grin and take off for where it's set up. On the way I nearly run into Skree, who shouts rude things after me, but I don't care.

|"|Oh, debate! That's really cool,|" I say. "|I suppose that's one of my interests too, but I've never done any formal debate. I'm more used to, oh, arguing which type of music is better with Pangolin's other AEs. And Ancient Rome! I've always found ancient civilizations fascinating — I've always wanted to visit some ruins or something. You're right — we really do have a lot in common.|" I smile. "|Oh, I've never tried mounted archery, but it's always sounded really cool. Maybe we could try to learn it together sometime?|"
|Kaspar asks if I have a favorite animal. "|Hmm, I've always been partial to birds. All types of birds, really. I've always envied their freedom to just fly away….|" I drift off, lost in thought, and then snap back to the present, my face heating up. I force a laugh to cover up my embarrassment and wave a hand dismissively. "|Anyway, what about you? Do you have a favorite animal?|"
Pangolin
Poinsettia talks about how she recently finished her novel, and how she's been getting clothes for the summer.
"Oh, that's wonderful!" I say. "Congratulations on finishing your novel! And getting new clothes is always very fun."
She asks me what I've been up to, and I respond, "Oh, nothing particularly interesting. I've been working on numerous writing projects — my novel, some stuff for the CB, a short story for my mom's birthday, and some school-related stuff. And I still have a few weeks left of school, so that means final projects and exams and all that fun stuff. You're homeschooled, correct?" I ask Poinsettia. "What's that like?"
Barnacle
Friendo takes off running, with me right behind him. We reach the food Writing brought at exactly the same time. I flick my hair out of my face and then turn to Friendo, grinning. "I think it's safe to say that that was a tie?"

PoinsettiaParticipanta sea of crystal waters\Kaspar\
\Arum suggests trying mounted archery together sometime, and I nod eagerly. "That'd be great!" I agree. She tells me next that she likes birds, and trails off – I can tell she's lost in thought. She looks different suddenly, her expression subtly changing, and I realize with a jolt that she's the most attractive person I've ever met – and one of the most interesting, in terms of conversations and ideas and the like. Suddenly I know I was wrong when I told Stormi the other day, in one of our arguments, that I couldn't imagine what having a crush was like.\
"|Anyway, what about you? Do you have a favorite animal?|" Arum asks.
\"I – um, what?" I ask, snapping back to reality, and then realize how awkward I must have sounded. Quickly I revert to my former casual tone, feeling thankful that I'm able to act calm even when I'm actually… not calm. "Okay, I actually have several. I have several favorites in most categories, in fact, like favorite songs or favorite colors. I can't ever choose just one! Anyway, with animals, I kind of like foxes – oh, and also eagles and falcons, because they're so proud and strong." I pause a moment, remembering the last falcon I saw, flying over the forest I was exploring – and then blink, because there's a falcon right in front of my line of vision, floating through the azure sky. It's as if my memory came to life. "Look!" I gasp. "There's one right now… I wonder where it's going." I feel a sudden wistful urge to go exploring as far and as long as the falcon can. "If you could travel anywhere," I ask Arum, "where would you go?"
Poinsettia
"You're homeschooled, right?" pangolin asks. "What's that like?"
"Well-" I pause, trying to think how best to give a good picture of it. "It's much calmer than ordinary school, that's for sure. No hectic social interaction – no homework deadlines – I can concentrate on what I'm trying to learn, and I get to advance at my own pace, which really helps me learn better. My mom teaches me most of the subjects, like history and chemistry, using textbooks we buy, textbooks she had when she was in school, and websites and videos online. She also tends to link what we're studying to the actual world – like my sister and I had a whole mini-course a few months ago on artificial intelligence, which was fascinating. That's one of my favorite parts of homeschooling. Math does get a little tricky at this stage, but my dad is very knowledgeable about it, and he's really good at explaining even the most complex parts of it, so he's been helping me a lot. So I'd say homeschooling's wonderful on the educational side. On the other hand, it does get a little boring having only one teacher and no classmates, because I'm pretty sociable and I like navigating social dynamics (I did go to an actual school for 1st and 2nd grade and I loved it!) And there are one or two subjects that I can't really take if I'm homeschooling, like drama, which I would definitely be taking if I were in a real school. My friend's school put on a Frozen musical and when I heard about it, I was immediately consumed by the longing to be in a Frozen musical as Elsa…" Suddenly I realize how long I've been talking. "Well, now you have the complete and utter full picture of what it's like to homeschool," I joke, reaching for another sandwich. "How about you? I think you go to an actual school – what's that like?"

pangolin + AEsParticipantIT SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN ME THIS LONG TO REPLY I’M SO SORRY!!
|Arum|
|"\Look! There's one right now…I wonder where it's going.\" Kaspar points out a falcon flying way over our heads, little more than a silhouette in the brilliant blue sky. It's beautiful, really. "\If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?\" he asks.
|"Oh gosh," I say, laughing slightly. "It's impossible to choose just one place. I mean — the world is so big, and there’s so much to see. I just…want to travel everywhere. I want to see everything — not just see, but truly experience. I want to explore it all, really." I smile and shake my head slightly. "Anyway…what about you?"
|I don't know why I'm saying all this. I've never even spoken this much about myself with Pangolin or any of their other AEs. But Kaspar is just so easy to talk to, and I feel like he would understand what I'm trying to say.|
Pangolin
Poinsettia talks about what homeschooling is like. It sounds really cool! She then asks, “How about you? I think you go to an actual school — what's that like?”
“Oh, jeez,” I say, laughing slightly. “I’m probably not the best person to describe what it’s like — I go to a tiny charter school, so there’s not a lot of students or resources. I think there’s about eighty kids in my grade, which is actually pretty small compared to a lot of other schools. And my school doesn’t do drama, or have a ton of extracurriculars, or do many events, so that’s kind of annoying. Also, I tend to move through the material much more quickly than other students, so I’m constantly bored, and I don’t really connect with the other kids.” I shrug. “Overall, though, it isn’t bad. It’s loud and often very chaotic, but that’s entertaining. And we’re a small school, so we get to go on field trips occasionally, which is always fun. Standardized tests are annoying and terrible and I hate them, but I don’t find them too difficult.” I take a bite of my fruit salad and ask, “So I know you like writing — do you have a favorite genre to write? And do you have a preference between poetry or prose?”
