SeadragonParticipantThis is a really great ski lodge and I love the scene with WildWolf and the stories. (Also the reference to me interrogating Harrison…definitely what I'd do in that situation).

The Librarian
“Dewey, Paige is missing,” Story pawed at her sister’s arm.
Dewey glanced up, slightly sleepy like, emerging from a book as one would from sleep. “Hmm?”
Paige is missing, I lost her,” Story said, a bit whiny.
Dewey eyeballed her sister, then smirked. “You should keep track of your stuff, then.”
“Deweyyyyy, please?” Story made puppy eyes at her.
Staring at her, Dewey considered. She did enjoy making more toys- but then again, Story should learn to be more responsible.
“Please?”
Dewey smiled begrudgingly. “Oh, alright. Fine. What do you want?”
Story jumped up and down, clapping her hands excitedly. “Oooh, oooh, make a little girl! One like, like, like ME!”
Dewey placed a hand on her sister’s arm. “Okay, calm down! You know it’s easier for me when I have quiet.”
Story settled down, staring with wide eyes at Dewey’s hands expectantly.
Taking a deep breath, Dewey closed her eyes. She put both her hands in front of her, making a bowl with her palms.
Think.
A small girl, with big wide eyes, standing, most likely, and a large smile.
Feel.
The small body, heavy and smooth in her palm.
Imagine.
Making it real, thoughts coming true.
Dewey opened her eyes and stared at her palm, watching her palm light up silver. Then, with a tickle, a golden figure appeared in her palms, and the silver light dimmed away. She held the toy up to her sister, and Story took it with reverence.
“I’m going to learn how to do that one day,” she announced, looking over her identical toy to herself.
“I’m sure you will,” Dewey acknowledged. “Anything you want to do, it can happen, here in Booklyn. Keep practicing! Remember: Think, feel, imagine.”
“Rrrright,” Story saluted, and then skipped off. “Thank you so much!”
Dewey smiled, and then settled back into her book. She did like creating things like that.
~~~
WildWolf looked the page over. Proof, wasn’t it? This Dewey in the story made golden figures with pure imagination. True, it wasn’t real people, but she could certainly use the same concept… right?
WildWolf stared at her own hand. Could she try too? What was it first? Think. WildWolf thought before she felt and then imagined. Looking closely at her palm, she saw a faint glowing color. She focused harder, and the light got brighter, a cheery yellow color. WildWolf gasped, and the light flickered, and then went out. She sat in stunned silence. Then, over at the table of books, she heard a slight noise. She glanced over, but didn’t see anything different. So she turned back to her hand.
Just as she shook her hand to warm up to try again, she heard a door slam. Jumping to her feet, WildWolf quickly put the book back on the mantle, before making a wild dive over the couch and rolling underneath the bed. She lay there on her stomach in dusty silence, her heart in her throat. The clacking of footsteps could be heard in the hall, then the turning of the doorknob.
WildWolf groaned inwardly. Even if Dewey (for of course, that’s who it would be) didn’t notice that she was under the bed, all Dewey had to do was look at her story, and see the pen writing every thought going through WildWolf’s head, every action.
Peeking between the crack of the sheets hanging down and the floor, she saw the book pattern feet walking quickly across the room, to the long table. She heard a slight sigh, and then the feet turned around and walked out of the room. The door closed.
WildWolf could hardly believe her luck. Dewey hadn’t called her out, obviously hadn’t seen her story. She waited a few moments longer before rolling back out from under the bed, before getting to her feet. She glanced around the room, then went to the table of books to see why Dewey had come over. She survade it, then froze. One of the 15 books was gone, and it wasn’t one that had previously been shut.
“Oh, Peri,” WildWolf murmured in distress.
The LibrarianParticipantwriting my world on paperDay 3, Part 11
WildWolf managed to slip into the library from the hall behind the desk unnoticed, as all were focused on the periwinkle colored cover and the small statue.
Once WildWolf was around the desk, she got a good look at the figure. Peri was standing, caught in the middle of a laugh, arms folded across her chest.
“How’d it go,” Celine murmured in her ear.
“Not now,” WildWolf whispered back. “What happened?”
“Supposedly strangled,” Celine muttered back. “Terrible. Lyric is really sad about it all- she said that she and Peri had been walking between shelves, and then Peri had decided to head back, and Lyric went on to the cozy section. When she came back, well, Dewey had already found Peri’s statue, and Lyric was in quite a shock.”
WildWolf looked over heads to look for Lyric, finding her near the desk with her arm around herself. She looked very anxious, more than usual, and seemed unable to tear her eyes away from the small glint of gold that was left of the delightful Peri. She sighed, but it was resigned. She almost expected that everyone was going to turn to gold, as though Midas was on rampage.
“Now we’re four,” Celine said sadly. “We should recruit another for our searches.”
Everyone was starting to back away. Curious locals had started to come over to see what was going on, reminding everyone that they were currently not the only folk here.
WildWolf went with Celine back to the table they had occupied but an hour before, though it felt like years ago. BT came with Lyric trailing behind and both girls sat at the table. Celine took one look at Lyric and said instantly, “Do you want to not do this?”
Lyric opened her mouth, tried to say something, then hesitated. She shook her head.
“Alrighty, then,” Celine splayed her hands on the table, “Who should we invite in?”
“Seadragon,” Lyric volunteered at once, “She was investigating Harrison before we-” she broke off.
“Sounds good,” Celine swiveled in her seat, and waved wildly at Seadragon, who was on the second level above their heads. WildWolf was impressed that Celine had found her quickly, as though she could track them with her mind.
Seadragon looked annoyedly down at the group. Celine merely smiled and waved her down. Seadragon stared at the group, giving an evil eye that WildWolf could see even from a level down. Undeterred, Celine stared back. Finally, Seadragon threw her hands up, disappeared from the railing, and appeared next to the table a few moments later.
“What,” she growled.
“Well, we have a bit of an investigation groupie going on, and we were hoping you’d join,” Celine explained. “Plus, if you join, all our initials together will be SCWBL, which can stand for Super Cool Winning Book Lovers! If you don’t join, we won’t be super!”
WildWolf shoved down a grin. She’d have been sold with that name if she hadn’t been wanting to find the person with the golden touch.
Seadragon managed to look both disgusted and bored. “Um, no. I work ALONE.” And she turned and left as quickly as she’d come.
Celine blew hair out of her face. “That worked.”
“We could ask someone else to join,” Bushy ventured.
“I mean, yeah, but Seadragon seems to have the same agenda soooo…” Celine glanced around.
“Hey, you needed another member for something?”
WildWolf jumped and turned in her seat. Scuttles smiled pleasantly behind her.
“Oh, uh, yeah,” WildWolf said. “Investigation.”
“Why did Seadragon turn down the spot?” Scuttles checked.
“She works alone, apparently, and I don’t think she liked our name,” Celine admitted.
“Why, what’s the name?” Scuttles asked curiously.
“Well, it’d be our initials put together and made into something else, and it’d work the same with you. Super Cool Winning Book Lovers,” BT explained. “It’s kind of cheesy. No offense, Celine.”
Scuttles instantly dragged a chair over and sat down at the table. “I love cheese.”
WildWolf found herself smiling despite herself. Scuttles would be just what they all needed.
“And Ptheo can be our mascot!” Scuttles obviously thought that was a big plus.
Celine laughed. “Perfect. You’re in! WildWolf, tell us what you found!”
