RockyParticipantFor lolz and curiousness…
When did the CB start? Who were the first CBers?

RockyParticipantAdmins…?
Oh, sorry. I didn't realize you were asking me. If I remember right, the Chatterbox has been live for over four years. It will be five years this summer.

Forgetting thingsWho was the first person to ever post on the CB?
Good question, JDD. Does anyone remember? Or know an easy way to look back and find out? I do remember the names of several of the first CBers, but am not sure who was really first.

SomewhereIf I'm correct, it was Loren T. Click on "Submitted by" and it will automatically switch to oldest to newest or newest to oldest.
Thanks, Ruby! You know more than I do!

Low levels of stupidI just realized that doing that is also an excellent way to find lost threads! Whoo!!!

Somewhere in ChicagoSo, something occured to me. A scenario that I wondered what the Admins would do in.
So, say I submitted a thread about codes, and with it a coded message, and the code key. It would take quite a bit of time to write or decode a message written in this code. So, would the Admin reviewing the post have to decode the message, or, if it took too much time, would you guys just say that you needed to know what the coded messages said to allow them and it took too much time to decode them, so we couldn't have such a thread?
Not saying I'm going to write such a thread, just wondering what you would have to do in that case.
Admin: We Admins do need to review all comments before they are posted and, unfortunately, we don't have time to decode comments to check their meaning. It's fine to talk about codes, but we reserve the right do delete any parts of comments we don't readily understand.

Theo WParticipantA Thread was just created introducing my brother as "Steve" (he has a bit of a minecraft obsession) and I can't find it anywhere in Chirp at Cricket even though I went through quite a few pages, around 20, and I tried a google search.
Do you have any ideas what might've happened to it?
Look on the very back pages.

Still in ChicagoAn easier way (as I previously pointed out) is to click on "Submitted by". The posts will switch to oldest to newest. Then click last and you'll likely see your thread there, unless it's older than that or the Admins deleted it for unknown reasons.
I didn't really make myself clear when I first said that what Ruby pointed out was a good way to find lost threads.
Thanks for explaining this, JDD.

GollumParticipantI clicked on the Book to Movie Adaptations thread on BaB, and then a thing came up saying that it was not on the approved list on parent controls? Any thoughts? Because I'm able to go on other threads fine.
-
Joe Dosie DoeParticipantAlmost 14
Flunkin' FlunkSchoolIf the parental controls only work on the computer you use, then maybe you should ask your mom. I'm just guessing, but maybe there's a word somewhere in the page that triggers the parental controls, if you have that sort of thing. I would ask my dad if it was me, or my mom. It depends on which parent knows more about computers or which controls your computer or the computer you use.
-
Joe Dosie DoeParticipantAlmost 14
Flunkin' FlunkSchoolWait, or maybe there's a list and you should put the web address for this site or the thread on the list. Sorry, kinda obvious.

Flunkin' FlunkSchoolWARNING: THE FOLLOWING QUESTION MAY POSSIBLY BE PERCIEVED AS A DUMB QUESTION!!!
I want to submit a haiku for this month's poetry contest. Can I use letters cut out of magazines glued on a piece of paper?
YOU WERE WARNED. I WOULD LOVE IT IF THE QUESTION WAS ANSWERED.
Yes, that would be all right, as long as the words of the poem are your own original creation. However, since it's a poetry contest, just handwriting or typing the same original words would do just as well. Entries will be judged on the quality of the poetry only. The judges do appreciate entries that are easy to read.

ConcernedParticipantAdmins, I posted a thread earlier today addressing some things that I think need to be talked about, but I can't find it anywhere. Is it still being reviewed or did you choose not to post it for reasons unknown to me?
A Concerned Chatterboxer
It is still being reviewed by all Admins. I myself have not noticed any rude comments and think this may be a non-issue. But the others may feel differently.

Snohomish, WAI haven't checked to see if anyone else already asked this question, so sorry to bother you if they have. I was just wondering why, for the latest issue's contest (for the magazine's birthday) you must send in your entry by snail mail instead of via the internet.
Well, we've considered accepting email entries, but we decided against it. We need to have hard copies of the entries to compare and judge them, and we don't have the time and facilities to print them all out. At least not now.

Joe Dosie DoeParticipant14 at last
World's worst funkysJust curious…
If you need hard copies, why don't you accept faxes for contest submissions? Do you guys not have enough fax machines to print all those entries?
Admin: Our contest judges don't work from our Chicago office, and I don't think they have their own faxes. Side note: Click, Ask, and Muse accept email contest entries now. Maybe other magazines will follow?
-
-
Sarah B.Participant12
Snohomish, WAAlso, can you submit more than one FFS?
Yes, you may submit multiple first sentences.

Bowl of GoldfishAdmin, something crazy happened. Edit the following out if needed.
I made a connection between a CBer and someone who wrote to the Letterbox in this month's issue. I'm about 200% sure the connection is accurate.
This may happen from time to time. We do not, however, print complete addresses on either Chatterbox or in Cricket magazine. And we only print last names and cities in the magazine if a reader has provided them to us. We like know where our readers are writing from . . . letters arrive from all over the world. How marvelous that Chatterbox and Letterbox can bring us all closer together!
