AmethystGuestdreaming of magnolias@Seadragon, I like the idea of your story! Especially the concept of four sisters; it sounds like the development of their different stories could be really interesting. I’m impressed by the differences between their personalities/stories, too – one of the things that’s sometimes difficult for me is coming up with distinct protagonists (and side characters as well :/)
Ooh, speaking of musicals, have either of you ever watched “Guys and Dolls”? I saw a super good live performance of it a few years back; the actors were amateurs, but they were amazingly good – I think they did better than most professional actors could have. They all really got into the spirit of it, and it was wonderful to watch (and utterly hilarious :D); the actor for Sky had a particularly good singing voice, and Nathan Detroit was done perfectly :]
I’m not sure which of the charries I’ve written about on the CB is most like me – I want to say Riltava, a charrie I had for my Guardians of Liritar solo write a couple of years back, but rereading the description of her personality I realize that she’s not that much like me… I suppose I’m mostly a mix of my AEs Vireo and Valerian, with dashes of most of the other AEs sprinkled in. Of all my characters in general, though, I think the closest one to me would be Katrina, a very lively, happy girl who loves people and experiences and stylish things but still values beauty and is fairly good at connecting with herself. I had tons of fun writing her :DD It’s usually difficult to write protagonists that are actually different from me (and, consequently, from all the other protagonists I’ve ever written :0) @Moon Wolf, I’m not sure that my characters get more like me over time, but generally a couple of charries in each story are like me from the outset. I think one of the biggest problems is that I have to describe everything in the story, and obviously I’m seeing it all as me, so some character or other invariably ends up having my outlook on things… it’s most complicated :/
For writing romance, I recommend getting your characters into situations that are intrinsically rather romantic, as well as ones where they’re supposed to work together or get to know each other. A lot depends on the personalities of the two of them, ofc – if one of them is outgoing and charming, that would stimulate conversation and connection between them (though the other person could always wonder if it really means anything or if it’s just due to the other’s way of being), but if they’re both shy or retiring, a bit more Strong Encouragement from the Writer might be needed. Reading (clean) romances might also help inspire you?; they can be useful to help you realize what you’re actually trying to express. (Not in the sense of copying from them, ofc; just to give a vague idea of possible techniques.) And, of course, drawing from irl experiences is vastly helpful… *dreamy sigh*

full flower moonYeah I’ve heard about for writing romance to not focus on it and not make it the main plot and thats what makes a good romance. Thank you for the romance writing advice!
@Amethyst I think I remember reading that solo write! It was really good!
And in terms of the characters, I feel like for writing dialogues I struggle a bit more to make them more distinct in personality, but I’m improving!
What is your favorite color? Or color scheme? And if you could have an alternative CB name, what would you choose?

SeadragonGuestI’ve never seen Guys and Dolls. An update on my school play is that we haven’t yet rehearsed fully on the stage or with our teacher watching, and we have 7 school days until the performance (!); I also think that I’m losing the tune of some of the songs. It’s a musical set in the world of Robin Hood, about his minstrel, Allan, who wants to be a fighter, falling in love with the Lady Genevieve, who is promised to be married to the Sheriff of Nottingham. The Merry People then have an adventure to get Genevieve out of being married to the Sheriff, although Genevieve comes to them dressed as a boy but returns to the castle once she hears that her father, the Duke, is ill (which is from poisoning). The whole purpose of the marriage was so that the Sheriff and his sister, who’s an evil abbess and the role I wanted, can get more money. (At the end of the final swordfight, the sheriff says something like, “Fine, I yield, I don’t want a wife anyway!”) I play a background-character Merry Woman with about ten lines in the whole thing.
My favorite color is purple. My favorite shade is medium-dark and exactly between red and blue, but I like most purples; I’m also partial to bright turquoise, navy blue, and certain shades of pink. I don’t know what my alternate CB name would be if I had one. It would probably be something botanical-sounding (I love plant names). Does either of you have a favorite plant or flower name–a name that you like the sound of, regardless of the plant? -
AmethystGuestshades of wanderlust@Moon Wolf, aww thanks <3 I don’t think I could choose just one favorite color, but my favorites include turquoise/light blue in general, sea green, and crimson. @Seadragon, I love purple too
:)For color schemes, I like purple or blue with silver, dark green and gold, lilac and light fawn brown, and different shades of blue together. If I changed my CB name I might go with something like Agate (similar to Amethyst XD) or Firespark or Dragonborn – I’d have to think about it more, though, lol. What about you?Yikes! Hopefully your teacher has it figured out, though. It sounds like a really fun musical – I personally would love to watch it :] I hope it goes wonderfully <3 (Or, whoops, is that not to be said? Pardon me, I meant break a leg >:D)
I like the sound of magnolia, and forsythia is a gorgeous word. And “jacaranda” :)) Do you have any?
(Side note, but a sparrow and a rabbit are in close proximity outside and the rabbit looks so big and the sparrow looks so little by contrast to each other <3)
Have either of you ever been in a place that seems especially like a place in a fantasy book (or any other book, for that matter)?

SeadragonGuest@Amethyst, one of my friends who’s a theater kid outside of school has told me that “good luck” is the Thing You Never Say to Actors, and I’ve always heard that it’s only in a theater that you can’t say “good luck” (though she’s told me otherwise), so I think that you hoping it goes wonderfully won’t make anything go wrong (*knocks on wooden desk*). The play has come along very well; the scene changes are a little bit chaotic, and certain people still don’t have all their lines, but other than that it’s fine.
I love “magnolia” too; also “iris” and “zinnia.” As for the book-place question, did you mean that the place seems like a specific place from a real book or is just a place with a fantasy-ish atmosphere? The buildings of Oxford University (I can’t remember the specific names of the specific buildings I’ve been to that gave me this feeling) reminded me of Hogwarts; of course, the Harry Potter movies were filmed there, but I’ve never seen them. I also remember waiting for my great-aunt and great-uncle in a really fancy hotel in San Francisco that reminded me of several hotels in kids’ mystery novels–the one from the second The Swifts book (side-note that this series, which to my knowledge has 2 books in it, is really good and worth reading), the Hotel Martinet, and the Hotel Denouement from the end of A Series of Unfortunate Events.
What sorts of places does either of you really like being in? -

once in a blue moonMy favorite color is definitely lavender purple. Color schemes would be like lavender and light brown, or lavender with white and light blue, or black and purple and pink. My CB name would probably be something quite similar to what I have now, like Lunar Wolf or lunarmoon.
A plant name I like is forget-me-not, or celosia. Hyacinth is cute as well. Reminds me of the one time I wrote a poem based off of the Language of Flowers, and it ended up being quite a deep poem (like the kind of poem that on surface level looks like not much but when you analyze it its super deep). Have any of you written or made something with a deep hidden meaning?
I went to Universal Orlando once and the Harry Potter-themed places were soo cool! I once went to Olympic National Park in Washington as well, and the forests in there could be something out of LoTR. Oh and once I went to a forest trail in Canada, and it looked exactly how I would picture Narnia. What about you, Amethyst?
@Seadragon hopefully your play goes well! Break a leg!
I love being in bookstores and libraries. Being surrounded by books and the smell of books is really nice. Oh and also being outside in the wilderness is pretty relaxing. What about you?
Any plans for the summer?

blue moon ice creamHey Spagety! Welcome to CB! A good idea would be to introduce yourself with a post in Chirp at Cricket, and wait from there!
Here is the CB ultimate guide for you: https://www.cricketmagkids.com/topic/new-ultimate-guide-to-the-cb-revised-2025-edition/
