SomeoneGuestI don’t want to say who I am cause people may launch at me, so what’s everyone’s thoughts on this topic? Similar to the topic about chicken vs the egg. Anyways, I’m curious about y’all’s opinions on this.

Milky WayMy understanding of it is that when religious texts talk about creating stuff, they are leaving the evolution parts out. Science is a very real and complex thing, and religion is too for a lot of people. While I’d say everyone’s perspective is different, mine is that when religious texts talk about creation, evolution and other science stuff could have played a role. For example, in the Bible, God says “Let there be light.” And then the universe is created. That could have happened through an event like the Big Bang. But the people writing the Bible didn’t know about the Big Bang, they knew God created the world but they didn’t know every single detail. I think the same could be true with the way evolution isn’t really explained in religious texts all the time.

vice.verses.virtueGuestoodles!
lost to the sands of timei’m christian, but also a scientist at heart. i believe in evolution! i believe that god helped it happen, but i do believe in the big bang and evolution and everything else. in my opinion, not everything in the Bible is meant to be taken literally–especially because humans wrote the Bible. we aren’t perfect, and nothing we create is–even if we had a little help doing it.
if you don’t believe in this, though, that’s fine too!
:)this is just what i believe. -
ThalorwinGuestThis is a good discussion. So, I’ll talk right now about what I believe about the fossil record. I’m arguing for Creationism btw…
1. Scientists say that human kind came from one tiny cell. With the information I have been shown to, proves otherwise.
A. The fossil record, if evolution actually happened, there should be have half human, half something else fossils. Where’s that my friends? No where?
B. The Bible talks about how God made mankind in his image, above animals, and slightly below heavenly beings.
C. Humans are much more “evolved” if you’d call it that, compared to animals. Or, maybe there was a creator?
2. The flood people!
A. Many religions around the world have some story about a flood, that proves more accuracy.
B. In the fossil record, there are fossils that were obviously buried quickly. Apparently, to bury quickly in mud, that’s logically a flood??
C. Anyone heard of the Grand Canyon?? Well, scientists say that it formed over millions of years, well, after a flood recently, something very similar was created in less than a week.
3. Humans are complex
A. If evolution did happen, how could one tiny cell slowly evolve into animals, then into humans?
B. One single little cell is so stinking complex. That’s what makes life science difficult. How could it not of been created?Okay, that’s all my points. I’ll come back with more later!! Okay, so score: Creation, 8 points and in the lead! Evolution: 0 points.
Also, with Easter coming up, a lot of Christian argumentation gonna happen. So, with Jesus dying 2,000 years ago, raised back to life shows God’s massive plan of the redemption story in so many ways. Everyone should remember how much God has blessed us, and how there’s more to come. The true story of Easter, is so important, and tells us so much about God’s character. He loves you just as you are. He made you exactly how he wanted, and he cares for you so much that he sent his son to earth as a baby, grew up, then died for the ENTIRE world so that if you have faith even as tiny as a mustard seed, you WILL live with God forever when Jesus comes back to earth soon to bring all the believers up to heaven with him.
Sorry for “preaching” admins, please don’t take it out. I am not forcing people into Christianity.
Everyone have a wonderful Easter!

LonanGuestI do believe that events such as the Big Bang did happen (I am very much a believer of science), but I also think that deities (in this case, Chaos, which makes sense, bc i would imagine that the Big Bang was…very chaotic) are the cause of these event. In my religion, humans we’re made from clay, molded by Prometheus, there fore stating that we came from the earth. So I also believe that evolution is true, just that it was a gods doing.
Alot of the gods I believe in are what could be referred to as: Incarnates.
Which is a deity that literally is what they represent.
(Helios is the sun, Nyx is the night, Aphrodite is love, and so on).
So I guess I’m mixed on this subject, I believe science, but I also think that the gods have a bit of control over more natural things-
@LonanGuestIt’s Thalorwin
Ohh, I know what you’re talking about. I’ve heard that story on a podcast. It’s Greek Mythology, correct?

Milky WayThank you for sharing your thoughts, Thalorwin! The climate was different way back when, and floods are pretty terrifying, so maybe that could be why a lot of people have ancient stories involving them? And actually, animals are very “evolved” as you put it, too! Did you know we are 99% chimpanzee? Pretty cool, right? 😀 I do respect your opinion though. (: I understand that sometimes science can sound so complex it can be hard to fathom, but it is very real to me, and in my personal opinion, doesn’t mean religious texts are wrong about creating the world. And yes, this is a nice discussion. 😊
And @virtue, I also don’t take everything in the Bible literally, as human bias is definitely a thing!

LonanGuestI know I already posted something about this, but I was thinking on it more yesterday, and realized I had more to say. (This might sound a bit disjointed, so just bare with me)
~
When I said, “I believe evolution is true, just that it was a gods doing” I meant that evolution started, due to the will of a god (or all the gods, but in this case, Prometheus), not that the gods control the act of evolution.
There’s one thing that I think furthers my point.
Hellenic Paganism, has a few set-in-stone tenants of the religion (Such as: Xenia [Hospitality], Eusebeia [Reverence for the gods, Ancestors, and Parents), Charis [Gratitude]), but the one I would like to focus on is Arete. Which means “Excellence”, or “Fulfilling one’s potential.”
The gods do not perceive their devotees and followers as perfect, just because they practice their religion. The gods want them to improve themselves, or fulfill their potential. Which is exactly why I think Prometheus created humans, and then brought them fire, even though it would bring him pain and imprisonment in the end. Now, Prometheus is the Titan of foresight, so it’s highly likely he foresaw his own demise. But, it’s also likely that he saw human evolution too. He had the choice to save him self, and let the race he’d created stay stagnant, or sacrifice him self and watch mortals grow and thrive.
He ultimately chose the later (as you can see from the world around us).
So I do believe in evolution, science, and the rest, but I think everything around us is the consequence of a gods will, and that forces on nature has a sort of chain reaction relationship with the divine.

And yes, Tharlorwin, this is about greek mythology. The ancient greek religion is still alive and kicking to this day. -
