CoyoteGuestPenny LaneHelp needed ASAP!
Hi people! I need help(as you may have already deducted.) I entered an essay contest a while ago, and my essay is due in four days and I still have a LOT of work left to do on it, but I can’t seem to make myself focus enough for long enough to work on it. Half the time, I pull up the doc, write for 5 minutes, then start reading or go on the CB or something. How can I get the enthusiasm and focus to get this done in time??? All advice appreciated! -

A Celestial SkyDifferent methods work for different people, so sorry if this doesn’t work, but usually I like to put on music in the background since it helps me be productive, and I make it so that every few pages (or poems, since I’m currently attempting to write a poem book!) or paragraphs or whatever your essay is organized, I get to read/use CB for five minutes/other incentive. This has helped quite a bit with my productivity, so this could work for you if you’d rather do other stuff than write your essay.
Other methods that might work for you: set a 10 minute timer and tell yourself that you only have to write for 10 minutes, and more often than not, you want to continue writing after. Remind yourself of the payoff, of why you want to do this in the first place, to give yourself motivation. Set a fake deadline for each paragraph/page/etc. such as asking your friend to look over this paragraph an hour later which you have not written yet to write faster. Or turn off other distractions if that helps you.
Hope this helps!

SeadragonGuestswimming in the seaYou could try writing by hand, to avoid looking at other websites? I don’t know if that would be possible, especially if you have to e-submit it or do online research. You could also set a timer for, say, 15 minutes, and have NO DISTRACTIONS AT ALL for that time, and then have 5 minutes just to be distracted and do all the things you keep doing when you’re not writing.
What kind of essay is it? -
CoyoteGuestPenny LaneThank you! All your advice is so helpful!
@Moon Wolf, I really like your idea to use music! Is there a certain type of music you recommend? I also think that setting deadlines for each paragraph is a great idea. Also, good luck with your book of poems!
@Seadragon, unfortunately, the essay does need to be typed online, but I might try writing pieces of it by hand and then typing it up again later. To answer your question, the essay is on the topic of theology and answers the question ‘Why Pray?’
Thank you guys so much!!!

PoinsettiaGuestI would definitely say try writing it on paper! You can always type it up once you’re done, and it really helps to concentrate.
If you don’t have any ideas, maybe you could try talking to someone about the topic of praying, and see if that leads you to some new ideas – then you could just write up what you’ve thought, without having to sit and think of something to say.
Hope this helps!

CoyoteGuestPenny LaneThanks to everyone! I have submitted my essay so wish me luck, I guess. *crosses fingers.*
@Pointsettia, I didn’t get the chance to reply to your advice yet, but writing everything on paper really helped me not get distracted. Your idea to talk about the topic also helped me get all my thoughts in order.Thank you so much to everyone! I really could not have done it without you.
