NYIn the latest issue of Cricket, I noticed that they interviewed Sensical content creators about their jobs. At first, I didn’t think much of it. It seemed pretty cool considering the theme of the issue. But then, I remembered they had already interviewed someone in this issue. If the editors are trying to make sure the 4 9+ magazines each get their fair chance to shine in the new Cricket, then they’re not helping by asking two Sensical creators a couple questions. They also had a QR code link to a 30 minute long video. I know there are a lot of videos on the internet that are that length, but in today’s world, where kids are getting enough screen time as it is, I think it really hurts that a magazine like Cricket is encouraging kids to look away from the mag and stare at a screen for 30 minutes. Editors, I know you have bought Sensical, but I think having interviews in the magazine like that is not helping this merge thing go smoothly. Please let this be a one time thing. Thank you!😊

ellesmereGuestyeah, aside from the 30-minute video (i can barely stand watching anything over ten minutes, just saying), the “gamer” also kinda stung too. as a somewhat gamer myself, it felt very cheeky and childish. now, lots of readers ARE children, but seeing some guy talk about sonic frontiers (one of my favorite games :/) in such a childish-seeming way was just… meh. but that’s all personal, what i’m saying is yes, encouraging kids to sit for half an hour glued to a screen isn’t… great, but… eh.

PoinsettiaGuestI agree! Thank you for pointing that out, @Pea Vine! We shouldn’t be encouraging kids to spend yet more time on screens.

NYI agree that the interview felt a bit childish. Personally, I think they should have just combined Ladybug and Click into one magazine, and left Spider, Ask, Cricket, Cobblestone, Muse, and Faces alone. But it is what it is…

AmethystGuestBY ALL MEANS, I completely agree with you. That’s another thing about the “updated” Cricket which was utterly disappointing; it was a nice, physical, literary magazine which got kids to value stories and words and something beautiful they could actually hold in their hands, but now it’s encouraging them to watch silly videos and be even more plugged into computers. It doesn’t mesh at all with Cricket’s whole meaning and legacy :((
