ParticipantRegular poetry thread (because I’m tired of not editing my poems)
This is exactly what it sounds like! A thread to post poetry. I’m excited to read all of your work!

Guestthanks for making a new one, admins!
we’re writing ecopoetry in english class and this is my first draft. feedback would be super helpful 🙂 I also need a title…
you always thought that pigeons were the worst part of new york, even
more than the i <3 ny t-shirts & crime rates & smog, but i
disagreed, maybe because there was something in those
beady eyes and watercolor plumage that
was a little endearing,
& though i never called the feathered automatons cute i
appreciated how they peered cross-eyed & addle-brained
into humanity’s highs and lows but
judged us all equally,or maybe i just liked the way you’d
laugh when you saw them
fight over a crust of bread like their cousins the seagulls, who were the same
creature but with a sailor’s mouth, with the same
natural stupidity as any chicken but they were not quite proud enough to say
cock-a-doodle-doo so i suppose pigeons will
fade into history, having become that extra daily reminder
to share a morning bagel and coffee with someone you love &
to not destroy the world.-

Guestomg that’s absolutely amazing! I don’t know much about ecopoetry but I would imagine that you’ve captured the essence of an ecological message – focusing on something from nature, but using it to talk about human problems and sustainability and having a good society. It’s also just very well-written, it feels emotional but measured.

A Celestial SkyDay 2 of the April poems:
Time Wanderer
My dear Wanderer,
Who has found this through time and space—
Where is the spark of zealergy
In your nostalgia-touched eyes?
“Not all who wander are lost” but
You are timeless like a horseshoe crab—
Perhaps you are searching for your lost phone
Which was last seen in the 18th century
Or are you simply out of time—like me? -

GuestI wrote this poem a few months ago. Not sure why I wrote a poem about the 4th of July in January, but yano. Anyways…here it is! I thought, with summer approaching, it was time to release some summer-y poems. Hope you like them.
warm, glowing summer night
laughter in the air
soft grass beneath our feet
kids chase each other across the field
smooth quilt beneath my fingers
warm hand in mine
starry sky above me
a reflection of the field below
fireflies twinkle like the stars
that glow above
then
finally
an explosion
after waiting for so long
there it is
colors burst in the sky
droplets of every color fill the dark expanse
then fall like rain
beautiful
we watch as more and more light
explodes in the sky
sparks of red, white and blue
illuminate the heavens
magicalI also wrote this one (apparently I was thinking of summer a lot):
the waves call to me
with their song of whispers
I run toward them
heart pounding in excitement
hot sand burns my feet
but I don’t care
I jump right in
shells beneath my toes
I wade out farther
until I almost can’t touch
the squishy sand
I dive under the waves
saltwater stings my eyes
but I love it
how can I be so cold
but so warm
at the same time?
fish nibble my feet
crabs scuttle beneath me unnoticed
I dive back under
but I don’t want to come back up
I could stay here forever
