Island of the Blue Dolphins

by Scott O'Dell

This book is about an American Indian girl whose tribe sails from their island, but accidentally leaves her behind. She must survive on her own, find food, make herself a shelter, and not be killed by the wild dogs that live also on her island. It is very sad (I cried the first time I read it), so if you don't like sad books, DO NOT read this! But it is really good.

I've read this book and I didn't think it was too terribly sad. But's that just my opinion.

Island of the Blue Dolphins
is a book that I, personally, would not reccomend. It was a good book, but it has a very saddening story. When you hear the title Island of the Blue Dolphins, you expect to hear about a girl who lives on an island with dolphins. not about a girl who gets left behind and must fend for herself.

I think this is an amazing read. The writer tells the story with such skill, describing how the girl survives on her own wits. It is a little sad, but I don't mind.

Sounds interesting. I debated on whether to read it or not because some of you say it is not that good and sad and others say it is good!

I will maybe give it a try and just decide for myself if I like it or not! I'm SO confused right now about this!

If you like fantasy or friendship books you might not like this book. If you like adventure books and wilderness stuff and books about humans relationship to dogs...?.... you might like this book. It was okay in my opinion.

I agree, the complex of the book is amazing, the way she feels acts and what she sees is so clear in your head but i thought it was a litllte sad. I enjoy fantasy books better.

I loved this book! It was sad, but inspiring also. It is a really good tale of survival and loss. It shows that girls can do stuff!
