OMG!!! I love you I love you I love you I love you! I think that I've read it about five times, too, and I was born Westish. Maybe my name should have been starting with a "w". Thor is my favorite, after Rose and the White Bear of course, and Sofi and Estelle are nice, too. I really love the scene when Rose goes after the man who was the white bear, and she walks in and says, "I love you!" and he says, "Charles." Malmo is really cool, too, and so is Neddy, and Father, and all of them! I am so happy, because no one has ever read East, and I love it so much that if it was legal I would get married to it. *smiles* *squeals* *cackles madly* *clears throat*

Why thank you for liking my name!Cool That's ok that you have no clue what we're talking about, but you should learn! Go to the library and find East and you won't regret it!

That's fine that you've never heard of it...not too many people have. You should read it. The basic story plot is this: There's a girl named Rose, who had some odd circumstances of birth that her parents keep from her. But she has always known that she is different, so when a white bear comes to her door in Norway one night, she eagerly agrees to go with him to save her dying sister. The white bear takes her to a castle that is carved into a mountain, where her sleeping accomodations are as sucpicious as the talking white bear that has brought her there. I can't tell you exactly what happens at the castle, 'cause that would ruin it. Rose ends up going on a journey to save the white bear that she has betrayed. She travels long distances and meets many different people. I really love this stroy because it tells of how love and courage can trump anything. You should definitely read this book. Sorry if I came off as a little crazy before, but I was just uber-excited that someone had finally read my favorite book. ~Koffee

I think The white bear is my favorite character, besides Rose, of course, and Malmo, who is awesome, and Neddy.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was how the author went from Rose to Father to Neddy and every time you didn't want to leave the character you were with at the time!  But really, it made the book stronger, too. Have you read any other books by Edith Pattou?  There are two others that I know of but haven't read: Hero's Song and Fire Arrow.

There's a review on CRR?   I'm going there now!

I have the other two books by her, but I haven't read them. They're really hard to get hooked on, and the characters were a bit two-dimensional. I think that East is definitely her best work. (I love Malmo, too!)

I'm here to vouch for Koffee!  She is the one that recommended it to me! Yay!  We are twins and we share a telepathic connection that involves peanut butter cookies and frohawks.  East is an awesome book!  You all should read it!  My favorite character is Malmo.
