Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Sabriel, Book 1 in the Abhorsen Trilogy
This book was...

This book was written by Garth Nix and is my favorite book ever!  It has is a darker fantasy with a loveable cast of characters (go Mogget!).  It is for older readers and is the first in a series!  Here is what it is about (I copied this from the back of my copy, by the way):  "Ever since she was a tiny child, Sabriel has lived outside the walls of the Old Kingdom--away from the random power of Free Magic and away from the Dead who won't stay dead.  But now her father, the Mage Abhorsen, is missing, and to find him Sabriel must cross back into that world.  Though her journey begins alone, she soon finds companions:  Mogget, whose seemingly harmless feline form hides a powerful--and perhaps malevolent--spirit, and Touchstone, a young Charter Mage long imprisoned by magic, now free in body but still trapped by painful memories.  With threats on all sides and only each other to trust, the three must travel deep into the Old Kingdom, toward a battle that will pit them against the true forces of life and death."  Please read it!

Oh my GOSH, I LOVE that series!!! <3 Gaah! Mogget is hilarious! But I have to say, with my undeniable dog bias, that I personally like The Disreputable Dog (from Lirael and Abhorsen) better. She's so... so... awesome! Hey, Wendy, did you know that there are two more books in the series, and a short story called "The Creature in the Case"? The short story is in a collection of Nix's short stories, called Across the Wall. There's this choose-your-own adventure thing that he wrote, which I did about twenty times (to see how many different adventures I could have) that had me rolling on the floor laughing!

I LOVE the Abhorsen series! Especially Mogget and the Disreputable Dog! This thread is a little old, but I love the series so much I've got to revive it somehow!
