Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
CAUTION: SPOILER TO...

CAUTION: SPOILER TO ANYONE WHO HASNT READ THE ENTIRE HARRY POTTER SERIES

I am reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for maybe the hundredth time, and I have a question. What house does Dolores Umbridge belong to? It's pretty likely that she's in Slytherin, considering how she adores Slytherins and hates all the other houses.

Another thing--is there anyone else who likes Snape? I love him. He was so mistreated as a child and made fun of at Hogwarts, and I feel so bad for him. Also, doesn't it make you sad when Dobby has to bring Winky to the room of requirement because she's drunk? I love Dobby! He's so sweet. In the seventh book, did you cry when he died? I did. I don't think Harry is particularly nice to him.

Tell any thoughts you have about any of the Harry Potter books!

I like Snape. Why wouldn't I like Snape?

I don't think the book ever mentions where Umbridge went to school, but I don't think she could have gone to Hogwarts and still have hated all the teachers so much.

I do like Snape, for the most part. I like him a lot as a character because he has so much depth and so many surprises within him, and I like him as a person because he, after years of an awful home, teasing, and companionship to Voldemort, he never forgot how to love.

Dobby is one of my absolute favorite characters (my others being Hermoine, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, Ginny, Fred and George, and Luna....oh dear, I suppose that's a lot..). I cried so much when Dobby died that I had to put the book down for five minutes because I couldn't read through my tears.

As for why Voldemort was evil...One reason, I think, is that he felt abandoned and unloved at the orphanage. Grieving for parents he never met and feeling like nobody could understand him, instead of turning to others for support, he chose to become resentful, and this hatred and loathing gradually consumed him.  I agree with whomever said that no one is born being wholly evil or wholly good. I think it's the choices you make throughout your entire life that decide what kind of person you're going to be.

I love all the books. I finished the series. I think Snape is creepy. Oh, and don't you just hate him!? After all, he did kill Dumbledoor!

Yeah, Snape killed Dumbledore- only because Dumbledore told him to, though. He was arguably the most loyal, brave members of the Order. He wasn't /creepy/.

Well, friendly disagreeing, then. It happens.

My favorite character is Ginny. like Hermione, but she doesn't hate Quidditch and has a sense of humor.

I never particularly liked Snape, even after the Harry's revelation in Book 7. However unfairly he was teased in his childhood, that's no excuse. He chose to be a Death Eater, for heavens sakes, no one forced him to. He effectively killed Harry's family by relaying the prophecy to Voldy. And he was downright cruel to Harry at Hogwarts.

I did like Dobby, though Winky struck me as kind of...strange in the head. Umbridge? Dunno. I can't really picture her as a kid.

My favorite characters are, um, all the Weasleys, (especially Ginny and Ron, and well, maybe not Percy) Luna, Sirius, and ummmm, Neville.

Well, he was kind of a jerk as a person, though he reformed, but as a character he was brilliant.
