Yet another popular teen series which I loathe. I'm not to fond of JPattz's adult novels either - the smut! The unnecessary smut! *hides*

...What don't you like about it?

In my opinion, James Patterson is good at writing page-turners and not much else. I found the plot moved quickly but was quite cliche and very predictable in places, and the characters (Max especially) to be whiny and unnecessarily angsty, and somewhat flat. Ever single one of them.

Still, I would rank Maximum Ride over the Twilight series, because MR was a fast-paced, light read with some very funny moments, where Twilight was just... boring and annoying. I guess a better way to phrase it would be, "I like the idea of Maximum Ride, but I find James Patterson's style lacking."

Savvy?

You said that twice. Plus you're saying that only because I said that I didn't like the Twilight series. But I tried it! You used to like the Maximum Ride series. And it's unfair to say that it's boring. It's packed with action, the idea is original, and only because Heidi, Diego and I told you some stuff, there is so much more that he writes in between the pieces that you overheared. It's HOW it's written. Please give it annother chance!!!

Oops, and I am NOT just saying it, Lauren!!! I gave it a chance. It IS fair that I think it's boring...we each have our different opinions. I like one thing, u like another. Just like how I DESPISE mushrooms, and u think they're OK.

Well, in a way I agree with you... James Patterson knows how to keep a plot moving, but often he had to resort to really cliche tropes in order to do it, and his plots were pretty predictable in places. His characters were repetitive, as well, and annoyingly angsty.

Like I said, it's not the books I have a problem with so much as the author's style of writing. I think the flat characters might have something to do with him reusing an idea he had previously written and published. However, if Michael Crichton (to use my favourite science fiction writer as an example...) had written MR, I probably would have enjoyed it a good deal more, since Crichton is very, very good at character development (Ian Malcom, anyone?), and poor character development was my main problem with MR.
