Chatterbox: Blab About Books

Immaculee Ilabagzia
In an attempt...

In an attempt to purge BaB of Warriors (sorry, but there are TEN of them now!), I'd like to bring up a book I read recently.

I'm not going to discuss it directly, because some parts were a teensy bit frightening, but I will describe the general idea. It's called Left to Tell and was written by Immaculee Ilabagzia, a survivor of the Rwandan holocaust. It is religious, because she believes that God helped her survive when like, everyone from her tribe was dead except for 100 or so, but religion isn't the only thing that makes it so fascinating. She and seven or eight other women were literally in a bathroom for three months, without letup (and this bathroom is four by three, honestly), listening to the genocidists outside the house trying to kill all the Tutsis (and succeeding, unfortunately).

Ms. Ilabagzia also wrote another book about her life after the holocaust was over, called Led by Faith, which is a bit more religious than the first, though I haven't finished it yet.

I thought the books were really interesting, because a) it's intriguing to read about a genocide not including Hitler, b) it's a gripping story of faith and survival, and c) this lady was living in a bathroom for three months, for Heaven's sake! And survived!

I was just wondering if anyone else has read these books. (They are a bit grown-up, but not because of cursing or romance or anything, just that it might be a little scary for some younger readers.)
