Chatterbox: Blab About Books

The Tail of Emily Windsnap
What??  No one...

What??  No one wrote anything about The Tail of Emily Windsnap???  It's supposedly a New York Times bestseller!!!  It's about a girl who lives with her mom on a houseboat.  She has never been fully immersed in water, so when she finally convinces her mom to let her join the swim lessons at her school, it is a totally new experience.  Also, since she has never been fully immersed in water, she didn't know the most important secret about her, one that would lead her to many adventures and discoveries.  I won't tell you any more, so I don't spoil the surprise.  This is the type of book that you either love or hate.  I personally love it.  It's sort of predictible, though.  There are three books in the series: The Tail of Emily Windsnap, Emily Windsnap and the Monster of the Deep, and Emily Windsnap and the Castle in the Mist (I'm reading that one now!!).  Very good book.  Read it.

I don't see why you wouldn't be allowed, since you wrote a play about mermaids.  There isn't really anything bad in the book, except for the fact the it's about mythical creatures and Mystic Millie.  That is the one bad part.  Because of that, I'm not sure how much I like the book, or at least the author.  Mystic Millie uses tarot cards.

Oh, it's not mermaids they dislike. It's junk writing, and they didn't know whether or not...  But that's all right, because YAY I just got permission!! So I'm going to look for it at the library.

What? Just because there are mythical creatures in it, you don't like the book? At least 1,000,000 books have mythical creatures and Tarot Cards. It's just a book. You read it for enjoyment. It's not like the author actually believes in that stuff, he just wanted to make it exciting.

I don't do this, but some Christian families don't believe that it is right to read books about mythical creatures.  They believe that it's wrong, because mermaids and those sort of things aren't real.  I will now give away my identification as In Need of Books.  As I said in that thread, I'm in a book club, and all the other girls believe in that.  That's why I have such a hard time finding books to choose.  (I'll take some more suggestions in that thread if anyone wants!  Thanks for those of you who contributed to it!!)  Now about the tarot cards, not just that one group of people, but  others, such as me and many Christians do not believe in stuff like the horoscope, tartot cards, palm readings, those women with funny hats and crystal balls, ect.  When you read a story with that stuff, it sort of gives you a pang of guilt, as though you yourself have gone to see a hypnotist.  I know the author may not believe in that stuff, but she talked about it so many times in all the books, that I just think she must.  Personally, I think that the book would have been fine if they changed Mystic Millie just to Millie.

Good!  All my friends are Christians and they all think fantasy is bad, so it's good to know you and Emily (and I'm sure others on this site are, too!) are like me!

I think I said somewhere else that I tend to get a little off topic...  Is your name really Ariel?  One of my best friends has the same name, but she spells it differently.
