Sherlock Holmes
Steering the conversation...

Steering the conversation away from anything vaguely resembling clans, cats, or otherwise...

Has anyone read Sherlock Holmes? I'm almost done with The Hound of the Baskervilles. I wasn't sure that I was going to like it, but it's really great! The characters and the setting are very well developed. For those who haven't, I encourage you to try it.

Only thing is, I now feel pressured to use the British spellings of words such as "favourite," "neighbour," "colour," and others, because Sir ACD does, and then I read everybody's posts, and it seems like everyone keeps using the British spellings, and there are British spellings of things everywhere- *passes out from exertion and etrene exposure to "U"s*

I read The Hound and thoroughly enjoyed it. What are your suspisons ((spelling??)) as to who did it?

I sort of thought Dr. Mortimer was the villain, actually. I certainly didn't suspect Stapleton/Vandeluer/Baskerville. And S/V/B being married to Beryl was extremely unexpected. I also thought Laura Lyons might have a hand in something.

Of course, the copy that I had was the real old one, true with all the god old-fashioned words like "witherto" and "whence," but I'm pretty sure it was a retyping, because I kept finding typos. Signet Classics has an awful editing crew.

Watson was a very well thought-out character, in my opinion.

I have read many of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's short stories, and I love them! They're so funny and well written. I love trying to figure out who did it. I seem to use British spellings, too. I've always spelled "doughnut" "doughnut." It makes more sense, and looks much more appealing than "donut." generally all British spellings are nice to look at (I like thinking about how a word and its spelling sound and look, so bear with me :) ).

The Hound of the Baskervilles is good. And British spellings are cool, even though I generally don't use them. :)

I've been reading so much British stuff lately that I have fallen- I now use the "ou" British spellings. My teacher, though usually intolerant, says she doesn't care either way...

Very weird... I don't know what's so appealing at throwing an extra "U" in at every turn... probably just the peer pressure. :( *is flummoxed*
